Anyone any idea if this is going to be anything dramatic or just a 'be careful' pep talk?

@CrunchyCarrot

Did he just say that by the end of September we'd need to be fully vaccinated in order to go to a nightclub or other venues with crowds? Can't recall if he said pubs or not. He said a negative test would no longer be acceptable.
this has already been stated on gov.uk - though not widely picked up

....

encouraging and supporting businesses and large events to use the NHS COVID Pass in high risk settings to help to limit the risk of infection. The Government will work with organisations that operate large, crowded settings where people are likely to be in close proximity to others outside their household to encourage the use of the NHS COVID Pass. If sufficient measures are not taken to limit infection, the Government will consider mandating the NHS COVID Pass in certain venues at a later date.

It's become even more ' big brother' now Boris Johnson is being beamed in by zoom.

megletthesecond · 19/07/2021 17:20

To be fair, Johnson always looks awful. For a wealthy person he never seemed to have got the healthy living memo.

GirlAloud · 19/07/2021 17:20

@gardeninggirl68

he's saying venues will need proof of double vaccine.....but some people dont trust/want it? how will that work?
No jab, no admission is the clear implication.

Whether this is another ‘nudge’ to get the under 30s to get jabbed, or whether the government are really planning to make admission to nightclubs etc available to the fully vaccinated only remains to be seen. It looks like vaccine passports for international travel are inevitable.

Has Carrie been at his hair? It looks like a bad bleach job and weird bit of hacking at it.

(I know that's not the most important thing but he's talking so much bollocks that all I can do is marvel at his odd hair).

Zahawi has announced that people will be required to be fully vaccinated to attend "large crowded settings" such as nightclubs from the end of September - after all over-18s have had the chance to receive both vaccine doses and develop immunity.

"So at that point we plan to make full vaccination a condition of entry to nightclubs and other venues where large crowds gather, proof of a negative test will no longer be sufficient," he said.

the80sweregreat · 19/07/2021 17:23

His hair is so straw like now. I wouldn't be surprised if he resorts to ' box dyes' to try and keep it looking a bit less shit , but it's not working ,sadly. It did used to look much healthier.
I know many people who are refusing the vaccine. They will come unstuck if they can't go anywhere.

He does actually do a fair amount of exercise. He just has a terrible physique.
Cornettoninja · 19/07/2021 17:23

Yet some scientists are saying there's evidence the vaccine stops children's immune system developing properly.

Have you any links for articles/discussions on that @MrsArchchancellorRidcully?

My initial reaction is, okay, that might be possible in some way but surely all the vaccines are far too young to know one way or the other? I’d be interested whether these statements are based on evidence or theory at this point.

TonytheDog · 19/07/2021 17:23

'Boundless admiration' for young people? They're not bloody labradors!

What on earth is he saying? He's incoherent.

jgw1 · 19/07/2021 17:25

@marieantoinehairnet

Can anyone tell me why it's ok for people to go clubbing and spread this disease but it's not ok for hundreds of thousands of children who aren't infected to go to school this week - what did our children do to deserve this kind of contempt for their existence. Ok to not be vacc'd, ok to get long covid, ok to miss out on education - all so the ungrateful masses can go clubbing, save Pret and to attend super spreader events
Children don't contribute to GDP. The other activities you mention do.
Cornettoninja · 19/07/2021 17:25

The hair schtick is tiresome, he needs to grow the fuck up and sort it out.

MercyBooth · 19/07/2021 17:25

If people are worried about overcrowding, how about we focus on housing security, incarceration in prisons, inappropriately designed psychiatric hospitals, decent rest spaces for workers in factories and warehouses ... and not on nightclubs?

the80sweregreat · 19/07/2021 17:26

He looks properly fed up with it all now.
Yet another camping holiday with a lively one year old , Carrie and the dog beckons.
No wonder he has had enough!

muddyford · 19/07/2021 17:26

Dunno about it being Carrie responsible for his strange hair. I think it's Dylyn!

AlecTrevelyan006 · 19/07/2021 17:27

Carrie? I was thinking maybe baby Wilfred had tried his hand at doing daddy's hair.

That is one brassy looking barnet.

"So at that point we plan to make full vaccination a condition of entry to nightclubs and other venues where large crowds gather, proof of a negative test will no longer be sufficient," he said.

So when Boris said that coming out of lockdown was irreversible, he meant that instead of reintroducing the current restrictions he would invent a whole new set.
Why didn't we see that coming?

Yep. I think this is very wrong. The tests should be enough for those not vaccinated. In fact with the numbers of double jabbed people getting covid increasing, it doesn’t make much sense for tests to not be enough. Unless they’re trying to force people to have the vaccine of course. Hmm Bunch of cunts.

What is the definition of a 'large gathering'?
the80sweregreat · 19/07/2021 17:30

Yep, if it's nightclubs asking for vaccine proof , then it'll be everyone else too ( in the future)
Controlling our every move ( even more so than they can already !)
I can see it coming
JVT saying the next six weeks are vital.

applesandpears33 · 19/07/2021 17:30

I am in two minds about vaccine passports for night clubs. On the one hand, I don't want additional restrictions on liberty. On the other, night clubs are by their nature places where there could be higher levels of covid transmission as people shout to be heard over the music . Vaccine passports could help to restrict this.
