Who else is sick of the hysteria?

There must be others? Time to tighthen ofcom rules, and clamp down on mis or sensationalist reporting in newspapers, online, TV, Radio etc.

Granny killers, look into their eyes, covidiots, hype over figures, over reporting, under reporting, selective reporting, anti vaxxers, selfish non maskers, etc etc is goes on and on.

There would probably be better compliance for rules etc if this hadnt become a circus of hystera and hyperbole.

Very dispiriting that people are so “lacking in logic or critical thinking.

Yes. It is rather, isn’t it. It isn’t difficult to understand the actual science of this virus.

TerritorialPissings · 16/07/2021 22:49

Read State of Fear by Laura Dodsworth.

peepopeepopeepo · 16/07/2021 22:53

I see more threads complaining about the hysteria than I see actual threads of hysteria.

crumbsinthejam · 16/07/2021 22:53

It's not even confined to Covid reporting: an example of a DM headline this eve: "Now you can start worrying about Norovirus: Health experts warn number of outbreaks is THREE TIMES higher than usual"

"now you can start worrying" ??? awful, scaremongering sensationalism

XenoBitch · 16/07/2021 22:57

Read State of Fear by Laura Dodsworth.
I have it. Will take me years to read it though!
MidnightMonsterMunch · 16/07/2021 23:00

Completely agree about reporting the case numbers. It’s every news bulletin, announced like the football results. No nuance, no explanation, no context. Awful.

So true. Grin
Sausageroll67 · 16/07/2021 23:23

Most positive cases are mild these days.

IndigoC · 16/07/2021 23:32

Interestingly according to the NYT there are 21,000 hospitalisations a day in the US right now, and an average of 26,000 cases reported per day. So they’re mostly just counting/testing those who enter hospital.

I presume this is what people want here? More relaxing in the short term for sure, but the lack of visibility/publicity about Delta growing there is going to catch a lot of people out. At least we all know what’s going on here, and the vulnerable can take shelter.

MercyBooth · 16/07/2021 23:36

I agree @Suranjeep.

@RobinPenguins Its more when the next pandemic comes along
a. the public goodwill has been used up on this one.
b. once you see nudging, you cant unsee it.

This is the problem. A lot of people can't handle the truth and they are complaining loudly while the rest of us just want to het on do whatever we need to in order to get back to normal. Even if that means zero covid.
MercyBooth · 16/07/2021 23:43

Agree the media are recklessly completely stoking the fire in the way they report. Look at today - the misreporting of Chris Whitty's comments, with headlines like 'we'll be in lockdown again in weeks'. He didn't say that. It's totally irresponsible

Exactly. They need to be more careful The bloke has already been harangued more than once.

MercyBooth · 16/07/2021 23:45

@TerritorialPissings YY Ive read it.

MercyBooth · 16/07/2021 23:46

If the public start calling for Leveson 2 the media will only have themselves to blame.

Yes.
MargaretThursday · 16/07/2021 23:51

You mean the hysterical thread saying "I'm done" which started around about last May and have continued their hysterical wailing since then. Yes, I totally agree.

They're reporting enough. In America 99.5% of the deaths are now in the unvaccinated. So far, Pfizer and Moderna appear to be highly effective at preventing serious illness or death.

COVID-19 becoming ‘a pandemic of the unvaccinated,’ warns CDC director

Nearly all hospital admissions and deaths, she says, are among the unvaccinated.

Yes, likely, but it’s ultimately self-destructive because lockdowns are horrendous. With so much unknown this time we need to be cautious. Wearing masks and other mitigating factors costs so little (for most).

The yo-yo approach is the worst for mental health.[/quote]
This.

bluetongue · 17/07/2021 00:00

Yes, I am.

I’m pro vaccine and will be getting my second Pfizer shot tomorrow. I realise that even then I could catch Covid and may even be ill with flu like symptoms for a week or two. That doesn’t scare me at all. What scares me is the possibility of things like masks and lockdowns being around for years. I don’t have children and I really feel for those that do. All the posters wailing about the small numbers of children that get very ill or get long Covid forget about the harm to children’s development and education with measure to stop Covid.

Over-reporting, under-reporting, selective reporting ... which of these in particular - in the context of hysteria - don't you like, @Suranjeep?

Nat6999 · 17/07/2021 02:08

I stopped reading the papers when they were full of full page spreads of Covid adverts. I refuse to be manipulated by this incompetent government.

Chimboo · 17/07/2021 02:39

Covid Covid Covid

Meanwhile people with brain tumours need to go private to get treated. No not because the NHS is “overwhelmed”, or because they’re all flat out stopping people dying of Covid, but because Covid is all that matters and god help you otherwise.

Anyone who comes at me - this is personal experience and I don’t care what you say. I’m sick of Covid being the only thing that matters. It’s shameful.

I’m so sorry for your experience. I’ve had healthcare delayed myself but it is because we let Covid run rampant. That’s the reason. If a hospital is full doing treatments for an emergency virus then if course it affects other treatments.

Covid measures don’t stop other illnesses being treated, let rip Covid does

My concerns about Monday are as much about the impact on other healthcare as Covid cases.

I hope you can get the treatment you need soon. I absolutely understand why you’re frustrated.

The best way to protect children’s education is to stop this thing going crazy again.

7-8% of 5-9 year olds have long Covid for 12 weeks plus. My five year old relative has kidney damage.

We should campaign for better measures like better ventilation and air purifiers ti slow transmission in schools to keep them open. I’ve been saying this for a year.
