There must be others? Time to tighthen ofcom rules, and clamp down on mis or sensationalist reporting in newspapers, online, TV, Radio etc.

Granny killers, look into their eyes, covidiots, hype over figures, over reporting, under reporting, selective reporting, anti vaxxers, selfish non maskers, etc etc is goes on and on.

There would probably be better compliance for rules etc if this hadnt become a circus of hystera and hyperbole.

Me. I'm bored with it. I can't even talk about it to friends. If you're scared wear a mask and stay in as much as you can. If you're not, go about your life. That's all I have to say now.

XenoBitch · 16/07/2021 22:07

@farfallarocks

The nhs hasn’t coped for years. That’s the sad truth. The NHS killed my father in February through their total incompetence. Separately he caught Covid in hospital ( and was totally asymptotic), he died because they gave him the wrong medicine and he slowly bled to death. Guess what was on his death certificate?? Yup. Covid
Sorry to hear that Flowers

The one "Covid death" that was close to my family was a chap who was admitted to hospital for end of life care (he had cancer). He caught Covid whilst there, and was also counted in the Covid death figures even though it was cancer that killed him.

Also saw a lady on a local FB group who lost her uncle to suicide, but he had a positive Covid test., Yep, also in the Covid figures. Some people even tried to say that Covid caused him to have suicidal thoughts even though he had mental health issues for years.

@PiccalilliChilli

I don't watch the news anymore. Any news I get is from Twitter and I know a lot of it is BS.

I have anxiety so I know that the media will just make it worse. You have to look inside, outside and round the back of every headline these days. Quite often what is presented is not quite what has actually happened.

Unrelated to Covid-19, I work for TfL and one headline read, from the BBC no less, that Tube staff were going on strike. This was not quite correct. Tube train operators were going on strike, not Tube station staff. There is a distinct difference. But the BBC didn't make that distinction.

A lot of Sky News headlines just make me Hmm. So sensational and stretching the truth. BBC can be just as bad. I just gave up on all of it.

I wouldnt rely on Twitter for news, Twitter really isnt representative of society, and it seems to give prominiance to the blue heart, FBPE cancel culture brigade

Yep totally sick of it. The media have gone stratospheric with the scaremongering.

Figures should always be presented in context but then they're not scary enough.

I stopped reading the news a few months ago then started again. Time to stop again I think. I wish there was another habitable planet I could escape to.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/07/2021 22:14

I'm so sorry about your father, farfallarocks - sorry, but not at all surprised considering they did the same to my FIL, even down to the wrong medication being given

Of course they tried to lie at the inquest (though they were defeated because the family had made notes of exactly who'd said what) but it's just another symptom of a behemoth beyond control

That is how I feel too. I recall there being some project about a one way trip to Mars. I would happily sign up to get off this shitehole now.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 16/07/2021 22:16

I'm so fed up with this.

It was all fine for the fucking football, and now they are twatting around again.

DancesWithTortoises · 16/07/2021 22:18

Yes, let's pretend it isn't happening. Those of us who have lost loved ones to COVID should just shut up and pretend it didn't happen.

DS is involved in research of this. I listen to what he says not random loons on MN or Twitter.

Keep your masks, protect the vulnerable and brave yourselves for restrictions in the autumn.

DancesWithTortoises · 16/07/2021 22:19

For some, it is not a case of pretend it is not happening. For some, the constant gloom from the news is causing a huge amount of anxiety. Ask anyone who works in mental health.

I am avoiding the news, not to pretend it is not happening, but because I am protecting my mental health. But, that counts for shit doesn't it, because it is not Covid.

Timeisavirtue · 16/07/2021 22:23

@Largethighsbadeyes

I am worried at the moment, however...

If they really want us to get used to the idea of "living with covid" then they need to stop the daily reporting of cases.

We, the general public, can do fuck all about the number of cases.

People who don't care will continue to do as they are doing.

People who do will curtail their own freedoms and cause/exacerbate mental health problems for themselves and their children.

If we have to live with this and treat it like flu then get it off the news.

Just stop!

You took the words right out of my mouth... been saying this for weeks. We can’t go on living like this, it’s not doing anyone any good, mental health, businesses, family’s. We’ve just got to learn to live with it like we did with flu and crack on.

You do realise that you are just the same random loon as anybody else on MN or Twitter?

Thisnamewasnttaken123 · 16/07/2021 22:25

I am sick of isolating with my school children.
I am sick of my kids missing out on big events and their education due to this shitty virus.
And then I am sick of people in my village so excited to be mask free as though nothing is happening, it's freedom day soon after all. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Another one.

where on this thread has anyone said pretend it isnt happening?
We're saying it should be preseted without hystera, and facts as facts in context

Does anyone else think that if there was no reporting on the number of cases that we'd all be none the wiser at this point as to there even being a pandemic...

youkiddingme · 16/07/2021 22:29

I'm totally sick of the media and social media being used to whip society into divided factions yelling at each other.

If social media, 24 hour news and the massive advancement of technology which has enabled us to work from home weren’t around we would have no idea about covid.
crumbsinthejam · 16/07/2021 22:38

Agree the media are recklessly completely stoking the fire in the way they report. Look at today - the misreporting of Chris Whitty's comments, with headlines like 'we'll be in lockdown again in weeks'. He didn't say that. It's totally irresponsible.

IndigoC · 16/07/2021 22:41

No.

I’m tired of morons putting their heads in the sand, denying reality, causing lockdowns that destroy my mental health.

MixYourMetaphor · 16/07/2021 22:41

@Polkadotties

You're right. There are lots of things we wouldn't know about in that case though.

It's concerning to imagine though that if cases and hospitalisation rates weren't reported at the moment though... we'd be none the wiser.

That seems to suggest that it's time to move on.

Agreed
lompolo · 16/07/2021 22:43

Context...
70 positive Covid cases in local hospital
Normal wards being repurposed
Into Covid wards again
Higher cases locally than at ANY previous point in the pandemic
It's not scaremongering to be concerned about rising cases and hospitalisation.

XenoBitch · 16/07/2021 22:44

No.

They could well be putting their head in the sand to protect their own mental health.
IndigoC · 16/07/2021 22:48

@XenoBitch

Yes, likely, but it’s ultimately self-destructive because lockdowns are horrendous. With so much unknown this time we need to be cautious. Wearing masks and other mitigating factors costs so little (for most).

The yo-yo approach is the worst for mental health.
