Will you continue to wear a mask?

I absolutely will NOT.

I'm counting the days until I can ditch the horrible things.

“ I think a lot of people have overlooked just how much masks have been a godsend for so many women.

No longer any pressure to have a full face of makeup for a nip to the supermarket, easier to avoid the male gaze, being able to do what you need to do without feeling exposed.”

A mask is not the answer to those problems.

Honey12346 · 27/06/2021 10:24

Pressure to have a full face of make to go yo the supermarket? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I've never in my life worn make up to go the supermarket and never felt any pressure around it. Any pressure you feel around wearing make up to the supermarket is in your head.

As is the idea that women would feel exposed due to their mouths being visible in public. What??? Just nonsense

Absolutely.

"pressure to have a full face of makeup for a nip to the supermarket, easier to avoid the male gaze, being able to do what you need to do without feeling exposed" - bloody hell, how depressing Sad The vast majority of women do not (I hope) feel this way. Anyone who does would be much better off exploring why they have these feelings, and trying to resolve them in a healthier way. Covering up your face in order to 'avoid the male gaze' is not the way forward!

Nope.

TheClaws · 27/06/2021 11:05

@GoldenOmber

No, not mixed up at all. I'm good, thanks.

You’re either genuinely mistaken or you’re making shit up. Or, outside option, I have a whole posting history of denying covid and being anti-masks, which I’ve somehow totally forgotten about. In which case I’m sure you can show me lots of examples of all these things you’re so sure I’ve said?

Anyone that been around this board for longer than a few months would've familiar with not only your name but plenty of others that often post of those subjects - but if you want to rewrite your own history, that's fine.

Well, what are you waiting for then? You should be able to come up with tons of examples to show me I’m wrong. I’m all over every mask thread, apparently, and everyone knows it, so I’m sure you have tons of examples!

But you haven’t come up with tons of examples of me saying these things. Or even some examples. Or even one example. How very odd.

Most people would be getting at least a bit sheepish by this point, repeatedly accusing someone of things they didn’t say. It’s pretty rude.

whymewhyme · 27/06/2021 11:18

Nope

psychomath · 27/06/2021 11:36

There are a number of prolific posters who do make me think "🙄🙄 here we go again" with incessant conspiracy theories and demands that we open up everything immediately, but GoldenOmber isn't one of them - maybe I missed something on a different thread, but I mostly remember her username because I always think she comes across as quite measured and reasonable. I'm not in the 'burn the masks' camp myself but I don't see what's so egregious about her first post on this thread, either?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/06/2021 11:58

If you feel pressured to put on a full face of makeup to go to the supermarket or feel exposed to the "male gaze" you probably need therapy to sort out your insecurities.

I think wearing no makeup, a hoodie, and boys' jeans helps me avoid the male gaze.

vaccinesforall · 27/06/2021 12:04

Yes

The only school with no cases in my area is the one that kept compulsory masks after chief twit Johnson stopped it

This. I don't even bother for work! I can't say I've ever felt exposed not wearing a mask either.
kowari · 27/06/2021 13:00

Me neither. I don't think men are that interested in the lower half of my face.

Same. I recognise GoldenOmber as one of the few voices of reason on the COVID board. (I think I might have been nice to her on another thread too, so she probably recognises me as a massive kiss-ass Grin)

Actually I do agree that there are pressures around this, but the answer isn’t to cover women up. And I have no doubt that the poster who made the original point wasn’t coming at it either in good faith or from a feminist POV, just using buzzwords to try to get a rise out of people
ilovesooty · 27/06/2021 13:41

I'm just waiting for the threads complaining about neighbours having mask burning parties in their gardens.

GoldenOmber · 27/06/2021 13:50

Aw Grin Glad I’m not coming across as an extremist covid-denying anti-masker to most people, anyway.

I probably won’t even be burning my masks when we can get rid of them honestly. It feels dramatic but we aren’t supposed to have bonfires round here, and it’s just not going to be satisfying stuffing them into the chiminea. Have considered turning the fabric into a teddy or cushion cover or something though.

soredust · 27/06/2021 14:15

Of course I will. I wear it all the time (except for when I am eating), I even sleep in my mask to protect my husband from getting covid.

Sorry for the wait; I was asleep. Here's one where you make a straw man argument about diseases we already vaccinate for and COVID.

Utter stupidity to compare COVID to a cold.

@GoldenOmber
Okay then: Did you routinely socially distance to protect the vulnerable from measles, polio, diphtheria?

GoldenOmber · 28/06/2021 01:06

I’m sorry, the best example you’ve got of me ‘minimising’ covid (also a disease we currently vaccinate against, you’ll notice) is that I compared it to diphtheria, measles and polio? Have you quite thought that through?

It seems to me that you’ve vaguely remembered I’ve disagreed with you about something on some covid threads, and you are convinced anyone who disagrees with you about anything on covid must surely be a rabid anti-masker who doesn’t believe in it. So, perhaps time to consider if you’re being a bit over simplistic about things? Because you’re making rather an arse of yourself now.

GoldenOmber · 28/06/2021 01:16

And it shouldn’t matter, you’re just some random person on the internet, you can think I’m a flat-earther if you want. (Would still be a bit rude to keep accusing me of it when I’m obviously not, mind.)

But this increasing polarisation of everything to do with covid is just poisonous. “If you don’t believe all of the exact same things I believe about the best decisions to take in this insanely complex global mess of costs and benefits, you must be one of the Bad People and believe all the Bad People things!” It makes it so hard to have any kind of sensible conversation about anything and I really wish people would stop it.

MercyBooth · 28/06/2021 01:56

Strange. This is the second mask thread ive seen thats been started post Hancock scandal. Its almost as if its "forget Hancock look at that bloke over there in Tesco without a mask on"

MercyBooth · 28/06/2021 02:11

@GoldenOmber that poster has done the same to me in the past too.

I'm not going to dredge up every one of your posts. To go back to the original post I made, it wasn't even particularly about you - just about the fact I was I amazed of the correlation between covid minimisers and mask-haters. It was a general comment. I do, however, think it's somewhat disingenuous for you to say that you haven't minimised Covid at all. You have, like many others have. You aren't as horrifying as some, so there that, though.
