Will you continue to wear a mask?

I absolutely will NOT.

I'm counting the days until I can ditch the horrible things.

@TheClaws

I really dislike wearing them. They are a significant hassle for me. I still wear them, because I am prepared to do things that are a significant hassle for me for a good reason. But I can’t wait to get past the point where they’re needed and will be burning all mine with glee once we get there.

I find it fascinating that there is such a correlation between the covid minimisers on this board and mask haters? Most people dislike wearing masks, and wish to ditch them once the covid risk has passed - but only then. But the views expressed on this thread are somewhat extreme. It's absolutely fine to dislike masks - everyone does. But this is an unusual situation.

Sorry, what was it I said there that you’re seeing as an example of ‘Covid minimising’?
User3078 · 26/06/2021 10:16

Honestly I'll probably only wear it in winter and that's not even for a reason related to the virus, I just get cold really easily and the mask really helped with that.
@BusyLizzie61 Yes, let's exclude people with autism and rape victims from society and brand them selfish. What a great idea. How moral and humane. Biscuit
My child is in the asd spectrum, and I know plenty of others too. And guess what, all of the children are capable of managing masks. Who aren't? The parents and 2 adults with autism that from the outset "took the exemption". Coincidence?

Sadly, no other person should be out at more risk because someone cannot or chooses not to give others the same protection they're receiving and if this means they cannot physically, in person, access certain facilities, than so be it. Given the ability to shop online etc and access many facilities online, they're not being excluded, they just have to use an alternative way to access. Nothing inhumane about that!

I do wear one when required, but I am also much better at knowing what I can and can't handle as an adult. I can recognise and remove myself from situations where I am not coping, if I couldn't handle a mask then I might use an exemption. As a child I would have just followed rules even if I was struggling and it affected me badly.

MareofBeasttown · 26/06/2021 11:15

I will because I take the Tube. Will also wear them in shops.

PinusSylvestris · 26/06/2021 11:20

I'm also going to try gargling next time I get a sore throat.
If you can't pick up a few health tips in a pandemic..

It's not this post particularly, GoldenOmber, but your posting history. If it's a mask thread, I know who'll pop up on it - and I wasn't surprised this time at all.

Hmm

I’m going to politely assume you have mixed me up with another poster there, and will of course I’m sure be right back to apologise.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 26/06/2021 11:50

Not if I was paid. I've ditched mine now anyway.

Whatever9999 · 26/06/2021 12:01

Your ASD child can wear the mask and therefore is not exempt. I cannot wear one, I tried and tried, had overload and meltdown after overload and meltdown, therefore I am exempt. My son puts everything in his mouth (except food, god I wish he'd eat even a slightly more varies diet), if he wore a mask it would be sodden within seconds, so guess what? He's exempt.

And how fucking dare you just shrug off the idea that we should be excluded from society as just one of those things. If anyone suggests that that CEV should simply stay at home to protect themselves then they're decried as "ableist", well guess what, what you're saying is exactly the same.

I have as much right as you to choose my own shopping (not once in the last year have I had a complete online order without substitutions), I have a right to go to the library, the zoo etc. I have a right to take my children out and enrich their lives, whether that's a meal out or the cinema.

I wear my lanyard (fecking hate that thing too), I keep my distance, don't like people.getting in my personal.space anyway, would be nice if others didn't get in my space tbh. I test twice a week, I'm double jabbed. What more can I do??

I’m surprised you had one in the first place 😳 I’m guessing it was a freebie?
Whatever9999 · 26/06/2021 12:05

Oh and I had my lanyard before covid, I used to wear it in situations when I knew I wouldn't be able to cope and would end up over stimulated such as train stations (time keeping is a massive trigger and if a train is even a few seconds late I will freak out, along with the fact I need to arrive at least 30min and sometimes hours early for anything to make sure I'm not late). Or 8n crowded noisy places where I might need to heavily stim or even escape

cupsofcoffee · 26/06/2021 12:07

@JollyAndBright

“They don’t work and are for show only”

I’ll tell that to the five people I know who have been working with covid positive patients for the entire pandemic, one of whom is clinically vulnerable. two are community nurses, going into peoples homes.
Four nurses and one doctor who have all avoided getting covid by wearing masks and washing their hands regularly.

Masks 100% do work when you are using suitable ones with a filter.

Masks 100% do work when you are using suitable ones with a filter.

But 99% of people don't wear those masks. They wear cheap pieces of cloth they've bought off eBay, or a blue "disposable" mask that's actually been used and washed about five times and spends the rest of the time shoved in someone's pocket or handbag.

CoffeeWithCheese · 26/06/2021 12:37

If I plan on robbing a bank I might whip one out.

DinosaurDiana · 26/06/2021 12:39

I’m a nurse and get very close to my patients so yes, I’m going to continue to wear one for now.
I’ll probably also wear them in shops.

TheFeistyFeminist · 26/06/2021 12:51

I have no intention of having a car accident but I still wear a seatbelt. In the event of an accident I might still get hurt but it will be lessened by the seatbelt.

I will continue to wear a mask in those circumstances where it is asked of me, and those circumstances where I feel it is the right choice for me.

I'm agog start so many people angrily talking about burning their masks at the first opportunity. Seriously, do what works for you, but isn't it tiring to be so angry?

CommanderBurnham · 26/06/2021 13:02

I think I will. But if I forget I won't be bothered.

People SHOULD be angry about all this.

I wash my hands, I WFH, I have all the windows open when we have people in the house (yes, even in January for the cleaner), I socially distance, I socialise outside. All have more of an impact than a grubby fabric mask stuffed in the pocket and washed once a week.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 26/06/2021 13:11

Yes in enclosed spaces and at work NHS and likely to be around in the longer term.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 26/06/2021 13:23

I genuinely don't get that. If you can explain then I'll pretend to be suitably wounded by your witty putdown.

loubylou1010 · 26/06/2021 13:27

I've stopped wearing them, after the news about Matt Hancock I'm not doing what they say anymore.

Do you think other countries around the world are giving up masks because Matt Hancock had an affair?

Honestly the state of some of the replies on here. 😒

loubylou1010 · 26/06/2021 13:33

@Thewiseoneincognito what difference do think manky face masks that are stuffed in peoples bags and hardly washed are making?

Clearly some difference, ask Israel they’re bringing them back after less than 2 weeks without them.
