I absolutely will NOT.

I'm counting the days until I can ditch the horrible things.

Yes - in shops and definitely on public transport. Also in places which may require them still, eg medical facilities. 🌹

TheClaws · 26/06/2021 03:20

I really dislike wearing them. They are a significant hassle for me. I still wear them, because I am prepared to do things that are a significant hassle for me for a good reason. But I can’t wait to get past the point where they’re needed and will be burning all mine with glee once we get there.

I find it fascinating that there is such a correlation between the covid minimisers on this board and mask haters? Most people dislike wearing masks, and wish to ditch them once the covid risk has passed - but only then. But the views expressed on this thread are somewhat extreme. It's absolutely fine to dislike masks - everyone does. But this is an unusual situation.

TreaslakeandBack · 26/06/2021 03:24

Yes. At work because I work in healthcare. Also at work in a University because students are germy.
On public transport and in large shops/ supermarkets.
Otherwise no, but happy to do so in those places.

Pyewackect · 26/06/2021 03:55

Probably, in shops and busy indoor areas but then I've rather enjoyed social distancing so I have every intention of avoiding mobs, crowds and the general London scrum which just pisses me off.

I have to admit I'm getting increasingly grumpy as I get older - I close my front door firmly behind me and as far as I'm concerned the rest of the world, and his dog, can just fuck off.

cupsofcoffee · 26/06/2021 05:05

No, definitely not.

I don't believe they're effective anyway.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 26/06/2021 05:55

Absolutely not can't wait to burn then!

MaryShelley1818 · 26/06/2021 07:02

No definitely not

BusyLizzie61 · 26/06/2021 08:00
@UKmumtobe do you not care about me and how I can’t go out to things with a mask on because I can’t cope with them?

Selfishness isn’t one way.
Isn't it amazing how the UK appears to have so many exempt mask wearers who cannot cope?

Did you try in repeated occasions?

I'm afraid imo, there's a divide here, no mask should mean no entry. And that should have been it. Pandering to what is a choice to not wear, cited as "can't" was the worst government decision.

Your right to not wear and reduce the risk you pose is utter selfishness.

bumblingbovine49 · 26/06/2021 08:07

The attitude and controversy about masks is nothing new at all

@Wellbythebloodyhell

Absolutely not can't wait to burn then!
There were pictures in the papers of people burning their masks after the 1918 pandemic so you are obviously not alone in this thought.
amylou8 · 26/06/2021 08:10

Nope I ditched mine yesterday. If I get caught I will say sorry, because as long as you apologise it's fine (Boris Johnson)

Alannawhorideslikeaman · 26/06/2021 08:13

Can't wait until they go. I didn't realise I had such a problem hearing people until I couldn't see their mouths, I feel like I've been walking around deaf for the last 15months. I wear one because I'm legally required to, I generally don't moan about it, but as soon as the rules change it is GONE.

Angel2702 · 26/06/2021 08:16

Depends on what the new guidance is but I don’t have any issue with masks and if I have to wear one to be able to do everUrging else freely then I’d take that.

Whatever9999 · 26/06/2021 08:17

@busyLizzie61

Yes I have tried wearing them multiple times, every time has ended in me stimming in a way that causes me self harm. I've tried gradually getting used to them, I've tried just getting anything done as quick as possible. It culminated in me standing in a pharmacy hitting myself in the head and the pharmacist telling me to take it off and get a lanyard.

And gone are the days when the disabled were hidden away, hence why the government recognised that some people can't (rather than won't) wear masks and allowed exemptions.

I wear my lanyard, that tells the whole world that I have a hidden disability, I keep away from people as much as I can (and they allow me), I test twice a week. Excuse me if I actually want to shop for myself, or take my children out for the day.

thyroidhelp · 26/06/2021 08:18

I will ditch it to. This is going to sound awful but what really irks me is I'm how they take off your lipstick and makeup on the lower half of your face 🙈 I'm ashamed to pick out the vanity aspects of it but just being honest lol

jgw1 · 26/06/2021 08:24

Do masks protect the wearer from the Health Secretary?

If they do I shall certainly keep wearing mine.

GingerbreadPlease · 26/06/2021 08:27

I'm ditching mine as soon as possible and won't be wearing one to make people more comfortable. I've had covid and masks are intolerable to me since then, hard to breathe. They don't work and are for show only.

Oblomov21 · 26/06/2021 08:40

"Do masks protect the wearer from the Health Secretary? " GrinGrin

Obviously a mask does not protect some from his 'obvious' ?? Charms. 🤮

ifonly4 · 26/06/2021 09:01

We were already wearing masks at work before it everyone was asked to wear one. My employers didn't want to be in a position where we or customers could sue them through failing to keep us and customers safe. I suspect they will continue to enforce this - and actually most of us will continue anyway.

Flaxmeadow · 26/06/2021 09:11

Yes in shops, public transport etc, especially when covid or flu numbers are high or if I have a cold. It's a minor inconvenience in the big scheme of things

JollyAndBright · 26/06/2021 09:12

Yes I will.

JollyAndBright · 26/06/2021 09:17

“They don’t work and are for show only”

I’ll tell that to the five people I know who have been working with covid positive patients for the entire pandemic, one of whom is clinically vulnerable. two are community nurses, going into peoples homes.
Four nurses and one doctor who have all avoided getting covid by wearing masks and washing their hands regularly.

Masks 100% do work when you are using suitable ones with a filter.

TheGenealogist · 26/06/2021 09:49

Nope, will be chucking them out the very second we don't have to wear any more.

sadperson16 · 26/06/2021 09:51

@JollyAndBright,how do you know it is mask wearing that has prevented the medical staff from contracting Covid?

Honey12346 · 26/06/2021 10:04

@BusyLizzie61 Yes, let's exclude people with autism and rape victims from society and brand them selfish. What a great idea. How moral and humane. Biscuit
