Refreshing to see a headteacher and doctor on bbc breakfast saying we need to only isolate the dc with covid. Feeling encouraged.

Same , y7 dd isolating cos of a sodding case on her bus

No way am keeping her indoors , we’re off for a walk later

Bobholll · 23/06/2021 14:01

By September, most teachers & support staff will be double vaccinated. They are protected. If they don’t want it, that’s their choice..

Besidethesea82 · 23/06/2021 14:29

I think If a child tests positive in their year or group then the other children instead of isolating should test everyday for 10 days.

Roonerspismed · 23/06/2021 14:30

I also won’t comply. You can head to football with thousands. No isolating here will be done

everybodysang · 23/06/2021 14:39

so many disgusting attitudes. It's no wonder those with CEV kids are fucking terrified to send them back to school.

daisyjgrey · 23/06/2021 14:41

I picked my daughter up at 11am today because they've sent her whole year home, so thats year 6, 1 and foundation off at the minute. The secondary here has two year groups out and the other secondary has shut the whole school for a 5 day firebreak.

I'll believe it when I see it, this whole thing is unsustainable and ridiculous.

herecomesthsun · 23/06/2021 14:42

So not actual news, just some talking heads opinions then,

MarshaBradyo · 23/06/2021 14:44

I’m glad they’re talking about it and hope it happens a bit it’s not official news yet?

bumbleymummy · 23/06/2021 14:50

ASAP hopefully!

Maryann1975 · 23/06/2021 15:09

I’m feeling so, so lucky that out of three dc, only one has been sent home to isolate and due to school holidays, it was only 2 days of education missed (Holiday was pretty shit though).

I Was shocked to hear them say that 240,000 children were isolating as close contacts last week. That figure is absolutely scandalous and I am livid on behalf of every parent who has had to deal with the ongoing upset/inconvenience/financial worries of having an isolating child who is actually well.

This has hacked me off no end too! No money changes hands in education, so if it’s disrupted it’s no problem. Football is worth millions (billions?) to the economy so they won’t stop that.
RocioMartinez · 23/06/2021 15:12

Well, it's ripping through one of our secondary schools at the moment and some children are really poorly. Ironically we never had to isolate during the first two lockdowns. They haven't asked whole year groups to isolate but they have asked whole year groups to get PCR tests under the "requested by a medical professional" category.

SecretKeeper1 · 23/06/2021 15:14

Only 4 kids left in my daughters class and 5 in my sons. That’s 2 cases = 49 isolating. Crazy.

BoaCunstrictor · 23/06/2021 15:15

DH and I are going to start taking unpaid parental leave if the DC are asked to isolate, rather than using annual leave or TOIL to cover. We can afford the hit, so if the government rank our children so low in the priority list, the consequence will be us reducing our contributions to the Exchequer.

HiHoSylvie · 23/06/2021 15:16

Dc1 has done four stints of isolation due to contact with a positive case. Only on one occasion did another child in her bubble of 90 children also then get covid. Apart from that it was 89 kids sitting at home completely healthy and the one with covid. None of them had bad symptoms. How is this benefitting them at this point when so many of us are fully vaccinated?

Like a pp, if this continues I won't be isolating my DC again. Obviously I won't send her to school or take her anywhere with people, but she can go to empty outdoor places in the dead of night if we have to. It's so unhealthy for kids to have to sit in for these ten day stretches all the time. Especially when it used to be strictly send your kid to school unless their foot falls off or whatever and get them active, obesity crisis etc. Now it's "park them on their arses, there's a dear". Piss off.

HoollyWugger · 23/06/2021 15:20

Mine is isolating because they were in close contact on Friday with another pupil who caught covid from his parent at the weekend ... So no actual time together since he actually caught covid ... but still has to isolate Hmm

HiHoSylvie · 23/06/2021 15:21

It's also because our esteemed leader and his merry band of twits has no idea of how crucial it is for children to get a decent education. To just be able to afford to get by in life, nothing near the luxuries he grew up with, born on the upper East side and groomed for a "scholarship" at Eton which in those days was like an instant pass to Oxbridge unless you were properly dense. He has no idea. Wanker.

Sorry, I'm a tad sweary about this. I'm not usually.

ColettesEarrings · 23/06/2021 15:21

My son's secondary school currently has three whole YEAR groups out for a week while they try and break the chain. It's absolutely ridiculous.

BlowDryRat · 23/06/2021 15:23

Good. It's stupid that an entire year group gets sent home for 10 days because of 1 case.

Dustyboots · 23/06/2021 15:34

We have a whole school closed now here too.

I agree - just the kids with Covid should be isolated. No more.

Dustyboots · 23/06/2021 15:35

Yes - and every time my daughter's class has had to isolate, no one else in the class has caught Covid - other than the one kid who tested positive in the first place.

canigooutyet · 23/06/2021 15:49

I'm on fence about isolation.

Previously it was just the one person in the class that was positive. And thought this is bloody ridiculous.

This time it was two who caught it between the tests they do. Monday all fine, the next one oh shit.

Since the whole class has been isolated another 3 have since tested positive. Currently waiting for the next update to find out any revised changes to return date.

As for staying inside. Nope. We go out for a walk around the block when it's quiet and don't go into places just in case. We haven't committed a crime to be locked up 24/7. And even then we'd be allowed some yard time.

GreenWheat · 23/06/2021 16:26

Close contact isolation for school children is one of the most disruptive elements of the pandemic in my opinion. It really has to stop. At our secondary school, the number of people doing the lateral flow testing has dropped off massively because everyone has lost faith in it and stopping testing is the only tool people have to protect themselves from repeated unnecessary isolation because the government is staying silent on the roadmap away from it.

Which is inevitable. Mine are primary, but we haven't taken up the offer of lateral flow tests. We'll get proper tests if symptomatic, and nothing else.
AnyFucker · 23/06/2021 16:37

All the “isolating” teenagers are currently hanging out together at my local shops.

And why the fuck wouldn’t they ?
