We need to learn to live with covid like we do with all other viruses, illnesses and diseases. The elderly and high risk are vaccinated… that was the goal, remember?! Like Hancock said, we will cry freedom when the over 70s are vaccinated!

There is no reason for mass testing when the young and healthy get covid mildly. My child is in tears yet again because she isn’t allowed to go to school for 10 days. A few students in her year group tested positive and all students are forced to be locked in their homes… again.

Are the sick?! No. Half have no symptoms. The others have a slight fever and feel a little tired.

This isn’t fair. This isn’t healthy. This isn’t sane. This is harmful and destructive to children. An entire generation has been betrayed. For what exactly? Over a virus which does not affect them. Over fear. Over people being immensely risk-averse. Over loss of control and people can’t take it.

It is time we live our lives and get back to normal before it’s too late. If our children hold us accountable and never forgive us, I will completely understand. We have not stood-up for them. Instead, we cowered in fear not giving a hoot about the collateral damage all these restrictions have caused. Shame on us.

Getawaywithit, over 18's can book, as of ? Last week? So there is literally no excuse whatsoever.

Many people are still vunerable... it doesnt 'just' kill the elderly it kills many people with medical conditions and not all of us are vaccinated yet.

Just because you are PRIVILAGED enough to not be at huge risk doesnt mean you can say screw you to the millions that are.

osbertthesyrianhamster

Don't you think that far fewer people dying from it is preferable to many people dying of it, and other things that could have been cured if our NHS wasn't struggling to cope?

osbertthesyrianhamster · 20/06/2021 20:03

Schools in Scotland break up next week.

@LouLou198

Have to say, I agree. I have seen the devastation first hand in the first wave as a front line worker, but we can't carry on like this. We are all just existing. Worried about going anywhere because don't want to be tracked, traced and forced to isolate, again, feel like we can't plan anything because we will only have to cancel as dc will be sent home to isolate, again. My dc have missed out on so much, not just school but also play outside our home with other people apart from myself and dh. I think a lot of people are done.
It's no good opening everything up as well if the test, trace and trace is going to be the same. Go anywhere and risk house arrest for 10 days.
Beannag · 20/06/2021 20:08

I don't get why teachers weren't all offered the vaccine once the initial squeeze on supply lifted, those who would have opted to have it would now be double jabbed, and no need to isolate relentlessly. Obviously for those children who are vulnerable themselves or have family members who are and for whatever wouldn't be able to safely have the jab there was time to put something in place.

Roselilly36 · 20/06/2021 20:09

Totally agree, the testing is just to fit the purpose. Time to get on with our lives.

deathbypostitnote · 20/06/2021 20:09

Thank you for your contribution. At the same time, you haven't seen the devastation the Delta wave could cause. If you were saying you'd been in a front line worker in India last month, your priorities might be different.

Really? You live where I live and have tried to make an appointment for tomorrow?

Meeman592 · 20/06/2021 20:11

OP, I agree with you. My DS (14) has also been told today that he needs to isolate for 10 days, so he will miss more school, including disrupting his end of year exams, and he will miss out on his sport training and potentially a tournament next weekend. If the government won't vaccinate the u18s then they can't expect them to continue to bear this burden - they need to let them build up herd immunity instead. I won't be encouraging my 2 DCs to do any more tests. We've been vaccinated, so that fear has gone. We will test when we visit vulnerable grandparents, but otherwise no more.

frumpety · 20/06/2021 20:14

@LouLou198 another frontline worker here, everyone I know has been on holiday (ok most have been more Scarbados than the Maldives ) at least twice since it all started, kids have been in school throughout for the majority, not for us unfortunately, can't say I have felt like I am just existing, but having a relatively pandemic proof job and still being alive and well are definite plus points.

CovidCorvid · 20/06/2021 20:14

I just worry that once all adults are vaccinated some scientist will say that for the elderly, etc who were vaccinated in Jan their immunity has now worn off….so we can’t have “freedom day” because we need to start vaccinating again.

Just feels endless, like bloody Groundhog Day. I hope the end is in sight I really do but it just seems like one false summit after another l

Bravo bravo 👏👏👏👏👏

Here here!

I couldn’t agree more OP. Closing down year groups and classes and potentially whole schools, for what? for what is a mild illness that doesn’t affect 98% of children.

It’s beyond belief!!!!!!!!!!

Baileysforchristmas · 20/06/2021 20:15

@deathbypostitnote India are in a completely different situation. Poverty, 1.4 billion population, a terrible healthcare, only the people who can afford it receive medical care, a small amount of the population are fully vaccinated. You cannot compare.

ViciousJackdaw · 20/06/2021 20:16

@Awalkintime

What will happen to those children who are vulnerable?
Oh screw them! As long as Sweets dc can get back to normal life, who gives a shit about anyone else, eh?

All this 'Won't somebody think of the children' shite is wearing very thin. Covid doesn't give a shit who you are, it will affect you one way or the other. I don't like the restrictions either but I'd rather have a few more weeks of it now than an entirely new (and stricter) set of rules in a few months time.

Completely agree. You’re right- that will be next I bet!!!!!
Beannag · 20/06/2021 20:19

Covid doesn't give a shit who you are, it will affect you one way or the other

People are affected differently though, so although it's isn't a conscious being so has zero shits to give, if it could it would. I do agree that vulnerable children should be given consideration, but not at the detriment of millions of other children. What is normally in place to help those who could get very poorly with illnesses that would be mild to others?

So you do want normality just in a few weeks not now. What about vulnerable dc then or is it just when you don’t want them to lift that you say it’s important?

I can’t see the difference just a different time frame.

olivethegreat · 20/06/2021 20:26

I agree but I still see (older people, understandably perhaps) paranoia everywhere and it feels like it's more around my teenage dd than when it's just me . It needs to be over now but it's not for a lot of people. Today dd and I went to a nat trust place and there was a volunteer almost climbing out the window when he saw us (despite all the windows and doors being open and us being about 3m away and wearing masks).

I feel so sad but i also cannot stand it anymore and have to bite my tongue. I cannot understand what more people expect .

I think personally we will just test now when seeing elderly family. I also test before an exercise class which has older people in it.

HazeyJaneII · 20/06/2021 20:27

Very little - vaccines against flu, an NHS that isn't as knackered as it is at the moment, the hope that people won't send their children into school after a d+v episode, being prepared by having a hospital passport to support your vulnerable child.

I would just like the opportunity to have my vulnerable 11 year old vaccinated, and until that happens and he is still in school, I would like safety measures like masks, regular LFTs and isolating close contacts kept in place.

BonnieDundee · 20/06/2021 20:29

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks.

People see the double standards, Boris and his G7 lot in Cornwall, the Scottish fans in London, Keir starmer having a pint with no mask at Wembley.

When the government bow to pressure from the football authorities to have the Euro finals at Wembley (and they will), they will be forced to let sponsors and officials fly into the country without quarantine, and it will be the last straw and no one will comply any more. They will be then be forced to drop restrictions to save face cos hardly anyone will be doing it anyway.
