My 2 year old has started watching Peppa Pig. Daddy Pig seems very familiar...

More good news from Tim Spector - the surge in cases in young people seems to be slowing down. He predicts that this ‘mini wave’ will peak in the next 2 weeks then decrease:

More first doses than second yesterday. (He means April)

From BBC: "Israel is to provide a million Covid vaccines to the Palestinian Authority, the office of Israel's new prime minister says."

EasterIssland · 18/06/2021 15:41

Personal happy news.... Spain is removing the compulsory to wear the face mask outdoors from the 26-06... I couldn't see myself wearing it next month 24/7!

Obviously marvellous but the headline is a little misleading. It is more a swapping situation.

Israel has vaccine close to expiring. Palestine has an order for vaccine but it won't reach them until later in the year. So as Israel has good stocks already they will give Palestine their current excess. Then they get the same amount back from Palestines order when it comes.

Saying all that I am very happy they have both negotiated this deal. Israel could have done it with someone else. The fact that they have sat down and done it this way. Gives some hope of cooperation from both sides about other matters.

Ah so pleased I've found you again. I lurked many threads ago but lost you. I really need a positive news thread a rubbish anxiety filled day.

I already feel better after reading through the thread.

EasterIssland · 18/06/2021 16:58

I agree with you @TruelyonelastSchlep
I guess it's best interest for Israel that Palestinian people are as safe as possible covidwise so no new variants or big spikes that could affect them

TruelyonelastSchlep · 18/06/2021 18:09

Just seen this on Twitter and am now waiting for it to be used in a debate here Grin

Has the summer solstice been factored into this? Since January days have been getting longer meaning the density of cases within a day has reduced. From June 21st days get shorter, meaning that even if the number of cases per day is flat, the number of cases per hour increases.

PomRuns · 18/06/2021 19:29

That's going to be quoted by several well knowns!

Maybe it could be another line on a graph 📊

I know it’s the DM but - could we be free July 5th???

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9698639/No-10-opens-door-early-release-lockdown-July-5-Covid-infection-rise-slows.html

Dr Raghib Ali, senior clinical research associate at the University of Cambridge MRC Epidemiology Unit, told i: “The vaccination programme has certainly weakened the link. When you look at the ratio of hospitalisations to cases from last Autumn to now – between 8 to 10 per cent then and between 3 and 4 per cent now – it’s quite a big reduction. If the link has broken completely you would expect the ratio to be around 1 per cent. Once everyone is vaccinated we’ll have a better idea It has weakened, which is important, and weakened even further when it comes to deaths, but it’s too early to say the link has been completely broken.”

The Palestinian Authority has cancelled a deal under which Israel was to give it at least one million Covid vaccines.

The authority says the Pfizer jabs are too close to their expiry date.

TruelyonelastSchlep · 19/06/2021 13:01

Doesn't surprise me. Argument there on both sides as normal 🤦‍♀️

Ultimately it is the citizens that lose out as normal. Israel and Palestinian should have had a joint vaccines agreement with Pfizer from the start. Sharing doses the same way England does within our union. I know it is different but actually not that different in lots of ways. Just testosterone filled men with years of prejudice getting in the way.

Just need to mark my spot here. Need good news!
The other threads make me feel so low with the anti everything just do what I want approach
I was heartened by Tim Spector on Thursday though and my 18 year old daughter got her first jab today

Cafeaulait27 · 20/06/2021 13:35

According to the bbc live stream, we may open up on 5th July if we continue to see the flattening of this wave. I think it still seems unlikely, as there’s still so many people to vaccinate, but it is promising that everyone is less worried.

I read on another thread that we do a hell of a lot more testing than Europe and the USA, so we often look really bad when we’re actually not! I wouldn’t be surprised if the delta variant is much more widespread in Europe than we’re being told, just due to them not testing and sequencing as much.

Also this on the bbc live stream:

“Dr Susan Hopkins of Public Health England says Covid restrictions are more likely to end if 70% of adults are vaccinated by 19 July

Dr Hopkins also says she wants all over-30s double vaccinated by 19 July - currently 59% of UK adults have been double jabbed”

I’d love to be double jabbed by then but can’t get an earlier appointment, my second jab is at the end of July and I’m 33. I know people who are 40 plus and won’t get their second until end July/early aug.

It would be great if they could somehow increase capacity and get second jabs in before 19th July, if they did a pop up round here me and my husband would definitely go down. As I’m pregnant I’m keen to get my second as soon as possible!

Fingers crossed for a good week with the figures next week 🤞

OrangeBananaFish · 20/06/2021 14:56

I'm 42 and my second is end July

Cafeaulait27 · 20/06/2021 16:22
