Once we get towards the end of the over 18’s for first jabs I reckon that they will bring second jabs forward. Only AZ needs a longer gap, Pfizer could be done at 3 or 4 weeks.

Totally agree so long as we have the supplies of Pfizer and Moderna. Makes sense to get the rest done quickly to stop more transmissions and clear the slate for vulnerable people boosters.

Eric Feigl-Ding getting his bottom slapped is a joyous thing 😂

Ding posted:

“Educational Settings”. Schools are top outbreak “incidents”. The data doesn’t lie.
assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl

A person responsible for half the report was not impressed 😉

@IsaacATFlorence
Sorry, Eric, this absolutely isn’t what the data means. As half the team that made this data, I can promise you this data isn’t proof of what you’re saying. Please see this linked thread of mine from three weeks ago explaining why.

See this guy correct Ding on at least one occasion before about misinterpretation of his work.

If only others did the same too

TruelyonelastSchlep · 20/06/2021 18:58

A tweet from Hugo.

15,000 people have been enrolled in pilot study which deploys daily testing instead of quarantine requirements for people who come into contact with covid cases, PHE looking for another 25,000 to take part.

Could make a world of difference. Not sure that they are using a large enough number of people. However suppose if in a high covid risk job or high case area it would be interesting.

EasterIssland · 20/06/2021 19:09

The guardian was reporting it as well saying it was 40k. Someone in another thread mentioned they were part of this study

Whatever9999 · 20/06/2021 19:09

Just did these screenshots for another thread, and worked out a few calculations.
The % rate of increase seems to be falling quite dramatically atm, its possible that we are reaching the top of the bell curve and could soon see a flattening and then falling case rate.
By my calculations, from yesterday's numbers we have a current doubling time of 16 days, but as someone with royal connections pointed out, with the rate of increase slowing so dramatically, there was a 50% increase over 10days, which gives a doubling time of 20days.
Anyway the rate of increase appears to have peaked on the 7th June and has been dropping at a steadily increasing rate and is now at 31.4%. It'll be interesting to see if this continues over the next 2 weeks as more and more people are jabbed.

DH got his 2nd jab today as a walk-in at the centre I volunteer at. It's exactly 8 weeks since his 1st jab (they weren't accepting anyone with a shorter gap than that) and they're not sure when they'll be doing walk-ins again, so he did well to get it today.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/06/2021 13:42

You can move your 2nd appointment if you are over 40. They now have changed the website and you can view appointments before you cancel the existing one.

I’ve had my second at 8weeks.

You can do it under 40 as well, though it doesn't say so.
Bordois · 21/06/2021 16:13

Further 10.6k cases reported today - rate of growth has increased slightly to 31.4 from 31.1 yesterday, BUT double the number of tests carried out were reported today compared to yesterday!

Cafeaulait27 · 21/06/2021 16:17

Regarding testing @Bordois I saw this yesterday. We’re doing a crazy amount of testing!

It’ll be interesting to see what the figures are like tomorrow 🤞

Cafeaulait27 · 21/06/2021 16:21

5 deaths today x

EasterIssland · 21/06/2021 17:06

A good thread from someone who understand properly data and numbers and takes into account noises …

LivinLaVidaLoki · 22/06/2021 13:56

Just posted this on another thread, but thought it would be nice to share here too.

I also find it quite reassuring that the number of people in hospital, whilst increasing is increasing at a much slower rate.

I know admissions have been increasing, but I think people in hospital with covid is a better metric for how the NHS is coping as many admissions are in, treated and out very quickly (from the head of the NHS who's name escapes me, sorry)

There are 325 more people in hospital now, than there was at the beginning of the month. During the last wave it was raising by that in a day.

Cafeaulait27 · 22/06/2021 16:11

That is good @LivinLaVidaLoki!!

I’ve just been made a bit depressed by Scotland’s update (and I’m not even in Scotland) and the 27 deaths today 😔

Will it ever end?!

Does anyone have any good news for today to cheer us up ☹️

Thanks for this info. DH just moved his forward by two weeks Smile
lazymum99 · 22/06/2021 16:32

My DS tells me that they are also releasing cancelled appointments at 8am every morning

Cafeaulait27 · 22/06/2021 16:32

That’s great@lazymum99! Do people just have to log on and look? X

lazymum99 · 22/06/2021 18:21

I think so. They have allowed him to book second Pfizer with an 8 week gap. It was 11 weeks

prettyvisitor · 22/06/2021 18:23

I would still like to know how long these people are in hospital for. I had read that people were being admitted for observation and released quite quickly (as they can't go to see a gp with covid)

carolinesbaby · 22/06/2021 18:50

I was feeling all positive and optimistic, then today my area has exploded - local school closed, shops closed to staff isolating. There's been zero cases here for two months, and today this? All the cases are kids in school, and their families are all isolating. The community is suddenly afraid again, it's not nice.

Cafeaulait27 · 22/06/2021 19:42

Read this on another thread about flu:

‘currently, flu is killing more people than Covid

Of the 84 deaths in England and Wales that involved COVID-19, 66 had this recorded as the underlying cause of death (78.6%, Figure 2). The number of deaths mentioning COVID-19 on the death certificate decreased, whereas the number of deaths due to COVID-19 increased. Of the 1,163 deaths that involved influenza and pneumonia, 292 had this recorded as the underlying cause of death (25.1%).

Firefly2021 · 22/06/2021 19:54

Same in our area (Southampton). Hopefully it’s a blip as I really don’t want my kids home again (and neither do they!)
