Watch out @LivinLaVidaLoki if you mean letting covid rip like that then they will start campaigning for the Chinese-style anal testing again!

Not much good news recently Sad

Does anyone know if there have been any successes of tweaking the vaccine for boosters against the delta variant? Just made the mistake of reading a thread talking about potential lockdown over winter again and how those who were vaccinated early may be vulnerable again now because immunity only lasts 6 months and I could cry. My mum was one of the first to get it Sad

Oldtimer2020 · 27/08/2021 20:47

When I go into a tailspin because of all of the (less than positive) news out there…. I go here

And usually feel a lot better for it

Isn't it normal for immunity to wane over time? That doesn't mean it's non-existent. And I read some months ago that 'tweaking' the vaccines is fairly straightforward, though that wasn't specifically with reference ot the Delta variant.
BessMarvin · 28/08/2021 08:07

I'm sure ages ago it was said oh it only takes a few weeks to tweak the vaccine, back when they were all being made or released. So it is strange we haven't heard anything along those lines. You'd think that that would be what any booster would be. No doubt it's not that straight forward!

twinmum86 · 28/08/2021 08:21

Thanks @Oldtimer2020 I'll take a look at that!

@IcedPurple well yes, but 6 months isn't very long - I'd kind for a high level of immunity for a bit longer

Yes @BessMarvin - I'm sure they'd be shouting about it if they successfully tweaked it wouldn't they?

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 28/08/2021 20:54

Some people really, really don’t want this to end. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s filling a void in their lives. It’s sad. But it’s not reflective of real life. Maybe step away from mumsnet for a while? I’ve deleted it twice over the last 18 months and felt so much better for it.

twinmum86 · 28/08/2021 21:00

Yes @SaveWaterDrinkGin you're probably right, I should just delete it!

DementedPanda · 28/08/2021 23:50

Almost 90% of my local area fully vaccinated Grin

Bordois · 28/08/2021 23:56

Only 77% fully vaccinated in my local authority - its the 25-29 age range that's lagging behind here though.

What do the actual studies say though? I imagine it's not quite as clear-cut or as miserable as the headlines suggest.

Yes.

They're baaaaaaaaak! Any glimmer of bad news and there they are. You could set your watch by them, especially the poster with one sentence paragraphs, most of them featuring the words 'the government' in every hand wringing line.

The Doom Mongers would make a meal out of me this weekend.
I went Out Out on Friday. Live music (oh my God how I have missed it!) proper leaping around and hair thrashing music - then a club to carry on the theme. Got a bit pissed and sweaty dancing in my jeans and DMs but who cares I had SUCH A GOOD TIME. My friend was nervous and said it was like dancing in Covid soup as virtually everyone there was late teens/early 20's but I'm afraid I put it to the back of my mind and just enjoyed myself.
Probably irresponsible.

Bordois · 29/08/2021 11:37

You genocidal maniac!!!!

Autumn101 · 31/08/2021 17:47

Well done Reachers!!

I took the DC to see Joseph at the weekend - it was packed and everyone was up singing and dancing at the end, loved every minute! And Jason Donovan is now my new crush, he was incredible

BunsyGirl · 31/08/2021 18:33

I have just returned from a holiday in Malta. It was our third visit there and was lovely to see that things hadn’t changed much since our trip in 2018, aside from the wearing of masks inside for both adults and children. It was very cathartic to mix with visitors from a number of different counties and made the World seem small again.

twinmum86 · 01/09/2021 18:29

So (and I'm embarrassed I'm asking this) the tests, LFT and PCR. Do they only pick up covid-19? I just read on another thread that they pick up other coronaviruses too - this can't be true can it?

Itsinthetreesitscoming · 02/09/2021 17:21

Anyone got any good news to post?

Bordois · 02/09/2021 17:40

Cases down again in England for the 9th day running. 🥳

carolinesbaby · 07/09/2021 20:49

@orangejumpsuit that link doesn't work for me

Bordois · 07/09/2021 20:51

Its a link to a tweet saying 80% of over 16s have been double jabbed.

Haven’t heard that it’s other coronavirus’s, seems very unlikely.

No, just Covid-19. This is one of the many conspiracy theories out there with no support.
