Hi all, good news is we made it on to holiday and have enjoyed a fab weeks break!

Question - with Mondays change in rules and us no longer having to isolate as contacts as double jabbed and/or under 18, does this also count if one of us tests positive? So if I test positive are my husband and children still free to go about their normal lives?

Imfedupwithallofthis · 13/08/2021 08:13

Yes. Any close contact (undefined if household contact or other contact) is free to go about their normal lives.

www.gov.uk/government/news/self-isolation-removed-for-double-jabbed-close-contacts-from-16-august

Advised to take a PCR test.

Imfedupwithallofthis · 13/08/2021 08:15

I think the above counts as good news? Time will tell if it will be the right strategy, but appears to be good news on a personal level.

@Imfedupwithallofthis

Yes. Any close contact (undefined if household contact or other contact) is free to go about their normal lives.

www.gov.uk/government/news/self-isolation-removed-for-double-jabbed-close-contacts-from-16-august

Advised to take a PCR test.

"As of Monday, double jabbed individuals and under 18s who are identified as close contacts by NHS Test and Trace will be advised to take a PCR test as soon as possible to check if they have the virus and for variants of concern. People can order a PCR home test online or by calling 119, or going to a test site.

As double jabbed people identified as close contacts are still at risk of being infected, people are advised to consider other precautions such as wearing a face covering in enclosed spaces, and limit contact with other people, especially with anyone who is clinically extremely vulnerable. They will not be required to self-isolate while they wait for the results of the PCR test."

twinmum86 · 13/08/2021 08:31

Yes I agree it's good news. I think symptomatic people will be more inclined to test and isolate if it doesn't mean their spouse having to miss 10 days of work

BessMarvin · 13/08/2021 13:33

Thanks for the above, that's useful. I was thinking it all seemed to have gone a bit quiet given the change is due Monday

BessMarvin · 13/08/2021 13:42

I assume that's a typo in the second to last bullet point. Should presumably say over 5s

Itsinthetreesitscoming · 14/08/2021 17:46

Checking in - still in need of good news.

carolinesbaby · 19/08/2021 10:08

Checking in here in the hope of
Some good news as I am getting swamped
By negativity again :-( is the the news from Israel
As bad as it looks?

amicissimma · 19/08/2021 10:31

AFAIK, the situation in Israel differs from the UK in that
a) They haven't previously had Delta.
b) They vaccinated with Pfizer using the originally recommended 3 week gap between doses, while we moved to the extended gap.
c) They only vaccinated with Pfizer while we used Pfizer and AZ, which may, or may not, have different characteristics with regards to immunity, length of immunity and resistance to one strain or another.

Oxford University seems to be finding good antibodies following AZ vaccination a year later and better antibody response with a longer gap between doses. This is AZ; I haven't come across similar research into Pfizer.

Delta seems better at evading immunity as regards causing infections, but vaccination seems to be providing good protection against severe illness, hospitalisation and death.

Bordois · 19/08/2021 15:53

Aren't Israel just going through the delta wave we've had?

ICantFindTheBuffet · 19/08/2021 18:42

Bumping this thread up because I made the mistake of reading the news this evening Smile

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 20/08/2021 19:39

Anyone around to put a positive spin on things?

Part of me thinks actually, if we’re fully open and pretty much back to normal, then actually things aren’t that bad.

I really need to stop checking the daily fail though.

herecomesthsun · 20/08/2021 19:52

We had a message through from the CCG that my DC can have a vaccine today.

I would count that as very good news.

Also first monoclonal antibody treatment for COVID-19 approved for use in the UK www.gov.uk/government/news/first-monoclonal-antibody-treatment-for-covid-19-approved-for-use-in-the-uk

I thought of you lot when I saw that Grin

We need more effective treatments for covid patients when they get ill, to complement the vaccines reducing the likelihood of serious illness. So this is so very welcome.

Fleek · 20/08/2021 20:37

Oh that's good, thank you for sharing! We need all the positivity we can get

CabbagesGreen · 21/08/2021 08:34

Any good news this morning?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/08/2021 09:03

CO2 monitors to be provided for schools

It’s at least an acknowledgment of the importance of fresh air even if there’s a long way between getting the monitors and actually changing the worst buildings.

CabbagesGreen · 21/08/2021 09:08

Clever idea!

AbstractDot · 21/08/2021 10:51

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-58270098

I read this as good news. The idea now that as we catch Covid-19 post-vax, and for children, we build an immunity to it. I know we shouldn't compare to the flu but if it settles on par with flu (and hopefully doesn't actually impact overall annual deaths) then life will be normal again. I didn't used to spend my life worrying about the flu!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/08/2021 18:56

Hi all. Sorry been AWOL I made it to Greece! I saw my aunts/uncles and cousins and their children and my beloved nona. It was amazing. Just what I needed. I feel so rested.

So much so that I am going back to Greece next week (different place and different family).

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/08/2021 14:55

Just bobbing on here to say I miss the days when "let it rip" referred too farting.
