Those graphs are great Bordois. Vaccinations are very clearly working.

EasterIssland · 08/07/2021 09:23

thanks bordois! I always get up negative ... and this thread brings me back to reality :)

carolinesbaby · 08/07/2021 11:39

Thankyou Bordois. It is helpful to see it laid out clearly like that. Even with the way higher case numbers, the vaccines are clearly working.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 08/07/2021 12:27

Yeeeeeeeeeeessssss! I can visit my family.

Honestly I just cried.

@LivinLaVidaLoki

Yeeeeeeeeeeessssss! I can visit my family.

Honestly I just cried.

Hooray, I am so pleased for you!

Kids don't have to quarantine and only 1 test needed for them when coming back from an amber country!

Just need to hope they don't come into contact with a case within 11 days before we go.

Am I right in thinking that they would only have to isolate if they were in close contact with someone who had tested postive themselves now?

carolinesbaby · 08/07/2021 13:46

Omg omg
I'm booking my flights

Bordois · 08/07/2021 14:11

Have the testing requirements changed? On BBC it says:

In essence, this means that for fully vaccinated travellers the requirements for green and amber list countries are the same

But amber list you have to test day 2 and 8 and its only day 2 for green so has this changed too?

Autumn101 · 08/07/2021 14:17

So happy for those of you on here who get to go and see your family!! It’s such good news finally for you all, I hope you all have incredible, happy reunions.

Just hoping they extend it to people vaccinated in other countries at a later date so my ILs can come visit and it’ll hopefully be easier for DH to get back more 🤞🤞

Bordois · 08/07/2021 15:08

Ooh looks like the rules about testing have changed too!

Bordois · 08/07/2021 15:18

Wow, cases in Scotland look to be dropping - 2.8k today compared to 4.2k last week.

School holiday and no football kicking in. Let's hope other countries follow suit!

@TeenMinusTests

My view is that 100,000 cases doesn't really matter so much if 98% of them are mild. It's not the cases that matter it is the hospitalisations and the deaths. (& long covid).

One of the problems is now almost with the daily reporting. We don't get daily reports of deaths due to cancer, or heart disease. Nor do we normally get daily reporting of say flu cases.

It means 'we' (the public) are at risk of losing perspective over the level of risk. I haven't seen an 'excess deaths' chart for a while, for example.

I absolutely agree with this.... providing we don't still have to isolate as a contact of someone who has it. It's too disruptive to life to keep isolating as frequently as could happen with case numbers that high.
Bordois · 08/07/2021 16:28

@Bordois

Case rate of growth is 42.8 today - down from 49 yesterday and 71.2 last Wednesday
Todays rate of growth has dropped again to 34.9. So cases still rising, but not as rapidly as they were

It just means that for the vaccinated Amber has the same requirements as Green so no isolation and no day 8 test.

No euros for Scotland less cases … I love football but this year I’m really fed up of it
EasterIssland · 08/07/2021 21:03

Sorry I’m grumpy today. I can be the one bringing you all down today. Not even the news of no needing to quarantine have made me happy … fed up of COVID !

MRex · 08/07/2021 21:06

@EasterIssland - last match in 2 days, not long now.
@EasterIssland - last match in 2 days, not long now.
Bojo is thinking whether to give us 2 days off on Monday Wink I don’t mind as long as everyone stays at home celebrating it. I know not popular , any other year I’d have loved a Spanish - England final … this year … after another bubble bursted in my sons nursery we’ve decided to pull him out a week before we’re due to visit my family so that we are risk free. We live in Bristol and there is 400/100j cases so living in fear last few days.

EasterIssland · 08/07/2021 21:09

Sorry it’s 1 day off not 2 :)

EasterIssland · 08/07/2021 21:15

Good news
The FCDO no longer advises against all but essential travel to Spain, based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks

Which means my insurance should cover me. @LivinLaVidaLoki if you have insurance or thinking about getting one you should be fine if Greece is the same

PomRuns · 08/07/2021 21:44

I might be confused but children don't need a pre departure test (I think?). So the risk is having contact with a positive person before the flight and needing to isolate? I might pull them out of swimming for a week ..!

Age? Where to?

The risk for my son is self isolating cuz if contact before my flight.

PomRuns · 08/07/2021 21:58

I just checked the rules for Portugal age 10 and below. So yes I think the main risk is needing to self isolate??

I think it needs to be clearer, perhaps I am just tired.

PomRuns · 09/07/2021 07:29

Very reassuring article on bbc news website re children’s very low risk from covid.
