Great to hear the case rate has decreased again, and also the study saying that children are at very low risk of getting ill from covid

PomRuns · 09/07/2021 13:46

Panda pic is adorable ❤️

@PomRuns

Very reassuring article on bbc news website re children’s very low risk from covid.
It's a great article, as you say, very reassuring.

Scotland reporting another drop in cases, looking promising for them!

Bordois · 09/07/2021 16:10

Todays rate of growth has dropped again to 34.9. So cases still rising, but not as rapidly as they were

Another drop to 30.7 today.

What are Scotland doing different to England at the moment, other than that their schools have broken up?
Bordois · 09/07/2021 17:47

Not partaking in a football tournament 😏

Namechangeforthis88 · 09/07/2021 17:52

Schools finished here in Scotland a week or two ago

EasterIssland · 09/07/2021 23:27

Cases flattening in sales and going down in Scotland apparently because behaviour change … can’t wait for England’s !

Bristoliver and James Ward are almost sounding a bit... optimistic..?

Ifyourefeelingsinister · 10/07/2021 09:59

Lost the thread - checking in again. I know Scotland cases are going down a bit, but would it not be too soon for the school holiday effect? Schools only broke up two weeks ago.

It’s enough to start dropping really. I’d say a week after. And same with football. They’re finding many cases are related with euro

I’m feeling a bit low today - I made the mistake of reading a few other threads and good news is countered with very negative comments.

Has anyone seen any data for percentages of people being positive who have had double vaccines ?

I’m wondering if shouldn’t risk our Europe trip - in case we can’t fly back …

Cafeaulait27 · 10/07/2021 11:13

Am I right in thinking cases will go down once schools break up and football finishes?

All the headlines are so gloomy about how big the peak is going to be! Any reassurance welcome… x

PomRuns · 10/07/2021 11:16

There’s a lot of negativity around at the moment 🙁 graphs and facts needed ! Will look.

There's varying reports. Early PHE figures include recently vaccinated and suggest 60% AZ / 88% Pfizer aren't infected: www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-01696-3. Serum studies in the EU however put AZ at 95% 4 weeks after the second dose. While their Pfizer stats are slightly lower, the 3 week dosing interval may have reduced effect, so UK immunity may be higher. Will you be 4 weeks after second dose when you go?

PomRuns · 10/07/2021 11:19

@MRex that’s exactly the kind of thing I need - thank you.
More than 4 weeks for both DH and I.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 10/07/2021 14:53

It is a bit of a rollercoaster at the moment innit?
Ds2 was sent home from school on Thursday due to contact with a positive case. But then yesterday afternoon I got another message saying the contact’s confirmatory PCR was negative so he is back at school on Monday.
Then there’s the football to distract us from the rising number of cases…except the football is (one factor ) causing the rising number of cases.

Still, the weather is lovely.

MRex · 10/07/2021 15:46

Vaccine efficacy for clinically vulnerable: www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-57781073.
Here's the table showing 2 weeks after second dose; all women and all but 5 men had antibodies.

MRex · 10/07/2021 15:46

Sorry, should say Clinically Extremely Vulnerable, shielding people only.

I'm convinced so much of the negativity isn't through fear (I do sympathise with the genuinely fearful even if there are a 100,000 other ways to get ill) but from people enjoying the rewards of working from home and the huge savings they are making on travel etc. I've had a friend openly admit she knows she's selfish but it wouldn't bother her going into another lockdown due the money she has saved. Every single person who I have witnessed saying restrictions should not end are coming from a place of privilege. The restrictions do not impact their lives in anyway whatsoever.
