Has anyone noticed that after the growth rate reducing in the last few weeks the last 2 days there has been a reduction in the weekly death rate?? May just be a blip of course, but it's certainly not the high numbers some have been predicting. And of deaths were following cases, even with a 3-4 week lag they would be rising at a much higher rate rather than leveling off (and maybe reducing)

Cafeaulait27 · 04/07/2021 19:29

@Whatever9999 that is great news.

I’m also really reassured by the news that masks etc will be optional from July 19th and everything looks on track for the end of social distancing.

It saddens me that people still don’t seem to be understanding that cases aren’t translating into deaths 😔

None of us know exactly what will happen over summer, but I’m hopeful that this wave will peak soon and everything will be alright!

twinmum86 · 04/07/2021 20:47

Has it been discussed anywhere what will happen with regard to isolation after the 19th?
I'm currently living in fear of my children missing their last few sessions of preschool and really won't feel comfortable going to busy places while case numbers are high if it means we're likely to be in contact with positive cases and have to isolate for 10 days!

I'm keeping an eye out but I haven't seen much to reassure about this. Probably because the MPs aren't the ones having to take time off and deal with children not leaving the house for 10 days at a time

Until we aren't testing and isolating any more, things aren't back to normal.

But for some reason there's been no clue that I've seen of when (if!) it's going to stop. Covid is apparently never leaving us. So once everyone is vaccinated, aren't we in the same place as we will be in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years? Will we be testing and isolating then?

Cafeaulait27 · 04/07/2021 21:09

I think they’ve said the whole isolation thing will stop July 19th. They even said that the covid 19 app will stop and contact tracing I think! It was in the Sunday papers today, I just saw the front pages on the BBC’s website yesterday.

twinmum86 · 04/07/2021 21:19

@Cafeaulait27 if that is right then that would be amazing!
I'd also like an end to the whole household having to isolate if one person is awaiting test results. With twins starting school in September I fear temperatures and coughs could be a regular thing for us.... and my husband really can't keep taking a couple of days off work all the time!

Obviously we would still isolate if we tested positive!

Cafeaulait27 · 04/07/2021 21:34

@twinmum86 I think that’s being scrapped too! I think it was in the Sunday Times maybe? But pretty much the same info in all the Sunday papers.

Basically I think the government are getting rid of anything which has made it difficult for businesses so no more distancing, masks, or isolation. I think if contacts test negative they’ll be free to carry on!

Someone else will probably be along who knows more than me and has an actual link to the articles 😌

twinmum86 · 04/07/2021 21:48

Any links welcomed!

Oh. Really really hope this is true!!

How have I missed this? 😯 I will keep my fingers crossed
Cafeaulait27 · 04/07/2021 22:48

@BessMarvin @twinmum86

Sorry it’s the DM but basically all the Sunday papers said this:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9754135/amp/Robert-Jenrick-confirms-face-masks-no-longer-compulsory-July-19.html

(If you scroll down there is a summary of what is expected to be signed off tomorrow)

twinmum86 · 05/07/2021 07:06

Thank you for the link :)

It doesn't mention about if a household member has say a temperature will the rest of the household still need to isolate, that's a big one for working parents!

BessMarvin · 05/07/2021 07:25

Thanks for the link Cafeaulait27
I've read it as much as my DD has allowed!

I couldn't see unless I've missed it, that there will no longer be a requirement to test if we have a symptom? Also does the children daily testing mean that they can go anywhere or just school? Not that I'm actually feeling great about potentially traumatising him by doing so.

I shall keep hoping for good news and lives actually returning to normal.

twinmum86 · 05/07/2021 07:45

@BessMarvin I think testing the symptomatic and/or isolating for 10 days will be here for a while

twinmum86 · 05/07/2021 07:47

Sorry posted too soon!

I don't have a problem with testing for symptoms - but I'd like my husband to still be able to work if our children have temperatures!
I think testing is still important at least until everyone who wants it has been double vaccinated

Cafeaulait27 · 05/07/2021 08:13

I gathered from it that you only have to test if a contact has symptoms, and you’re free if it’s negative rather than isolating.

If you have symptoms it still makes sense to test and I think these are still required. Sorry if I misunderstood before!

BessMarvin · 05/07/2021 08:49

Thank you.

I guess I'm trying to see what the grand plan back to total normality is, if that's actually going to happen. Thinking surely we aren't going to spend the rest of time testing every temperature / persistent cough? I definitely agree it makes sense to do so up to double vaccines for all who can / will have them.

It feels a bit weird that the question doesn't seem to be being raised in all the stuff I've read. Which certainly isn't everything.

Cafeaulait27 · 05/07/2021 12:57

I wonder if that’ll happen once cases start to decrease? I agree nothing much has been said on this and things are definitely not normal while we’re still testing for every cough and sneeze!

Cafeaulait27 · 05/07/2021 16:10

9 deaths today - they really don’t seem to be increasing

TeenMinusTests · 05/07/2021 16:31

Posting again because I lost you.

Bordois · 05/07/2021 17:05

Rate of growth has dropped too - down to 53% from 74% last week. Although I'm not reading too much into that at the moment!

Cafeaulait27 · 05/07/2021 18:18

@Bordois that’s good!

I was quite reassured by the briefing too. Hoping for a good summer. I know it’s a risk but I do trust whitty and also agree if we don’t do it in summer and wait till everyone is fully vaxxed, that will be autumn and too risky. So if we then delayed again in autumn we’d be looking at summer 2022 and I really don’t want to wait another year.

EasterIssland · 05/07/2021 18:37

So seems like i won't have to self isolate when flying back from spain tho it's not 100 % sure when will this happen yet?

And also no news about schools (im more keen on toddler/nurseries tbh) ... i've 19 days to fly home and dreading a nursery call!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 06/07/2021 06:47

There you all are!

I felt so positive after last night's briefing. First time I've seen one and not wanted to scream.

@EasterIssland the general belief is that quarantine free travel for the vaccinated (from amber areas) will begin on the 26th July.
So good luck. I really really do hope it happens for you.

Flying back on the 5th. So could possibly happen. Wanna use few days to potty train my son as he’s starting to display signs of being ready … so we might self isolate from the world as well.

It’s be good as well if they removed one of the pcrs from the green countries (the 72h one). As have a holiday booked to Iceland in September and going back to where I need it to be done is a bit of a pain

Bojo can you remove that please as well? Thanks :)

A good and balanced article from the bbc without scaremongering here - it’s an adjustment in our approach which is why a lot of people are worried about restrictions ending:
