Eek I have to pay for my flights 12 July. Might text Boris (apparently his number is well known) to see if he’s willing to bring his announcement forwards !

Autumn101 · 01/07/2021 18:34

It is great news that things are starting to look like travel will get easier, I really hope those of you with family abroad get to see them soon, I know how tough it is x

DH is slightly worried about U.K. being added to his (red list despite really low cases and high vaccination rates 🙄) countries red list so has booked a flight home for tomorrow!!! He has to do the horrid hotel quarantine again but at least once he’s here we can relax that we will actually get to see him this summer. I’m secretly hoping he gets stuck here ha ha

LivinLaVidaLoki · 01/07/2021 20:42

@Reachersloveinterest
It came up as part of one of the stories on my news app I'll see if I can go back and find it x

Personal good news I just managed to bring my vaccine forward by 2 weeks! Sadly only a week before our (uk) holiday so I won't be saved from isolation if I have contact before we go but better than it was.
I also managed to find a travel
Insurance who will cover us if we have to cancel due to isolation. Most of them only seem to cover if you actually have Covid. Coverwise cover isolation too in case anyone is looking

if fully vaccinated from the 19th you should not need to isolate as per the latest news

Interesting interview with Mike Tildesley, member of Sage and one of the scientists behind the Warwick model. In it, he discusses some of the assumptions they made and how reality has been more positive in some areas. And he seems confident about the 19th July.

unherd.com/thepost/govt-modeller-what-our-covid-forecasts-got-wrong/

I'm a little bit wary of it, as other than Unherd itself, only the Telegraph seems to have picked it up. But hopefully it represents a fair summary of Mike Tildesley's views.

PomRuns · 02/07/2021 11:25

I have good and bad news. DH had his 2nd dose.
Bad news - he has had the worst reaction ever and is so so tired.
I am going out and leaving him to recover.

Wow. So all those things us uneducated plebs were saying were wrong with the models when they were constantly being doomplopped on here actually did turn out to be wrong..
EasterIssland · 02/07/2021 12:58

@Bordois the noise! it's clearly the noise ;)

Oh no! Does he have the vital Dressing Gown of Doom available?
PomRuns · 02/07/2021 13:11

@amicissimma even better - he has a special voice.

I’ve just realised this was sarcasm

Does he do that thing where he acts really grog and then "startles" if you ask him something?

PomRuns · 02/07/2021 14:15

@Bordois yes and he was very startled when I accidentally dropped a book.

@TheChineseChicken sorry yes I was being very unsympathetic to poor DH but he does say he’d have to lose a limb to get sympathy from me (typical nhs worker)

You’ll be relieved he seems perkier now.

Angela Merkel hopes to open up travel for double-jabbed visitors to Germany

twinmum86 · 02/07/2021 16:10

@EasterIssland is it not 3 weeks after second dose though? Our holiday is 8 days after mine is booked for....

EasterIssland · 02/07/2021 16:16

I think it’s 2 weeks but no idea what Germany will request.

twinmum86 · 02/07/2021 16:30

Mines a uk holiday anyway

toots111 · 04/07/2021 09:19

Lovely article in The Observer today with the Oxford scientists. www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jul/04/centre-court-ovations-limbo-dancing-grans-its-all-been-humbling-say-oxford-vaccine-creators-sarah-gilbert-catherine-green?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other They were also in the times yesterday but that’s behind the paywall.
