Surely the results of these experiment are now void? The events took place before the Delta started to rise so this article is quite misleading and will only serve those who see what they want to see. Although they do admit the studies took place when cases were low, it would be interesting to see them conduct these tests today, I suspect the results would be very different.

TruelyonelastSchlep · 25/06/2021 21:18

It is giving the results from the events. The parameters of the research are what they are.

Unless you plot build a time machine and take delta variant back with you. This is what we have.

Bit of simple maths should help you work out the current risks based on the research and what we now know about the delta

(Though so far my theory on the delta transmission is holding fast 🤓)

TruelyonelastSchlep · 25/06/2021 21:18

*plan not plot

@TruelyonelastSchlep good news about the pilot events!

@Thewiseoneincognito I believe they were based around testing weren’t they, so I don’t think it should make that much difference if it’s the alpha or delta variant since the tests are still effective with delta ☺️

TruelyonelastSchlep · 25/06/2021 21:24

Good point

Actually I think it does make a significant difference. They were trials to monitor infection risk in the Events Research Program, not based around testing. They took place at the end of April/ early May before Delta had started to take off here.

I would expect the rates of transmission would be completely different done today although I expect Sir Andrew LW will try to justify theatre reopenings off the back of this.

@Reachersloveinterest

There's some distinctly bad news coming through this good news thread currently 😟 personally I'm not too worried about so called "freedom day" although I know other are. What I want is to be able to get on a plane and go and give my mum and dad a hug. I'm full of a summer cold which is making me grumpy (is definitely a cold; I'm double jabbed, previously had Covid, and tested negative twice in last two days) plus it's raining.
There are hundreds of threads where people could post their gloomy takes on every bit of goodish news. It's a shame they feel it's OK to post on the one thread where people come for some more upbeat relief.
TruelyonelastSchlep · 26/06/2021 02:22

Thank you chicken ❤

It was my cocking up posts you missed the most wasn't itGrin

Or maybe my brilliant lack of proof reading 😂

Or my getting cross with the smeg heads 😜

TruelyonelastSchlep · 26/06/2021 02:30

I have actually been very busy on a top secret Zionist mission. Don't tell anyone. It is yet another dastardly plot for us Jews to take over the world.

Apparently they know about the space lasers but at least they dont know about the Attack Dolphins yet

I was about to say the exact same thing.

I agree. A reminder of some good news that's probably been on here before, but it's worth repeating, (courtesy of Mac n chose on Twitter):

Two doses of Pfizer and Astra Zeneca reduce the chances of hospitalisation by 96% and 92% respectively. And Mac also says that in Israel where there has recently been an increase in Covid rates, the majority of vaccinated people testing positive are asymptomatic.

EasterIssland · 26/06/2021 09:59

I also read that mostly it was in teenagers in Israel, which only 5% have been vaccinated

BessMarvin · 26/06/2021 10:24

It sounds like there are lots of walk in centres this weekend so hopefully that will really help

CornishYarg · 26/06/2021 11:27

Just driven past a vaccination centre near me that's doing walk-ins. There's a big queue, much longer than I've seen there before. Obviously not great news for those queuing Grin but the demand is there and they should get through a lot of people today.

TruelyonelastSchlep · 26/06/2021 12:05

Yes London have walk in centres all over the place this weekend too
