Those graphs are reassuring @Bordois

carolinesbaby · 24/06/2021 20:33

Both those graphs are good aren't they.
That's why I like this thread! "I Still can't go see my mum! Each!" "Yes but look at THESE!"

So the balearic islands have been added to the green list. But greek islands which are highly vaccinated and haven't seen a covid case in ages remain amber. So I've to move my trip. Again.

I am just sat here in tears. I know its self indulgent but this is a nightmare. Can I come here for some cheer?

TheChineseChicken · 24/06/2021 20:35

@Bordois

Actual hospital admissions compared to the Warwick graph of doom.

TBF, considering the case numbers over the last few days I do expect there will be a bit of a rise in a week or so. However, if its the case that its younger people getting it from socialising, etc. I would also expect to see the trend in short stays continuing too.

Graph of doom Grin

That’s really frustrating for you, I sympathise. Fingers crossed the Greek islands are on the green list soon

It sucks, but they are removing the quarantine on return if that helps 🤗

I really do feel your pain. I'll keep you company as we can't go and visit our families.

Glad to see it’s not happened what warwicj predicted l

Cases, deaths and number of people in hospital all down today.

Hopefully this peak won’t get much higher and will start to level off now.

Great news

Cafeaulait27 · 25/06/2021 16:53

From the bbc website regarding the R number:

R number remains unchanged in England
The coronavirus reproduction number, or R value, in England remains unchanged from last week at between 1.2 and 1.4, according to the latest government figures.

R represents the average number of people each person with Covid-19 goes on to infect.

When the figure is above 1, an outbreak can grow exponentially but when it is below 1, it means the epidemic is shrinking.

An R number between 1.2 and 1.4 means that, on average, every 10 people infected will infect between 12 and 14 other people.

Also… (bbc again)

Despite more than 80,000 (or 90% of) Delta cases in the UK being found in under-50s, only eight under-50s have died with Delta. None of them were double vaccinated.

It’s a reminder of the basic truths of coronavirus: your risk of serious harm is much lower if you’re younger and lower still if you have the protection of vaccination.

But the data for older adults are a reminder of why we worry about the spread of the virus.

There’s far less spread of Delta in older adults (about 10,000 cases) but they run a higher risk of dying. So if the virus runs riot, it could eventually find the vulnerable and cause significant harm.

Nearly half of the 109 Delta deaths in over-50s are among those who had been doubled jabbed.

That may seem like a lot, but more than 90% of over-50s have been double vaccinated and we’d expect them to account for 90% of deaths if the vaccine wasn’t doing its work.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/06/2021 17:04

Thanks all.
That is really interesting @Cafeaulait27 and loving "Graph of doom"

Thewiseoneincognito · 25/06/2021 17:08

@Cafeaulait27 it’s worth remembering also that deaths lag cases so I suppose it’s still too early to properly assess the data. I agree it doesn’t look good for the elderly even the double vaccinated still face a risk. I just hope hose who are at risk continue to take sensible precautions, the government need to be very explicit in communicating this.

If this trend continues it’s going to be hard trying to justify ‘Freedom” day, the absolute last thing we would want to be doing is lifting restrictions. We can not allow this to spread.

amicissimma · 25/06/2021 17:08

Because of the way we count Covid deaths (within 28 days of a positive test), we cannot know how many double vaccinated people are dying of Covid.

If it's (a) all of those counted it's a very different thing from if (b) elderly people are dying of something else and, in close contact with a lot of other people due to their condition, happen to pick up, and have detected, some Covid in their throats/noses at some point, which has no bearing on their fatal condition whatsoever.

Cafeaulait27 · 25/06/2021 17:44

I should point out I just copied and pasted this from the bbc website, it’s not my words.

I don’t claim to be an expert, I just took the sliver of good news from it ☺️

@BlueBlancmange it was in their live feed so I’m afraid I can’t! X

There's some distinctly bad news coming through this good news thread currently 😟 personally I'm not too worried about so called "freedom day" although I know other are. What I want is to be able to get on a plane and go and give my mum and dad a hug.
I'm full of a summer cold which is making me grumpy (is definitely a cold; I'm double jabbed, previously had Covid, and tested negative twice in last two days) plus it's raining.
