To expect to be back in lockdown in November

133 replies

Ohmydaisy · 13/06/2021 18:38

Hi.... my daughter is getting married in November, I've told her to expect the 'no more than 30 ' restrictions to be in place. But I'm secretly hoping all will be normal again. So my question is aibu to advise to only plan for 30 ?(inbu) Or am I being over cautious?.... in which case I am being unreasonable . What do you all really think will be like come November? I'm also thinking it's flu season then and they my tighten restrictions to protect the hospitals from being overwhelmed. Xxx

I agree a lockdown in winter is looking likely IMO.

Lesina · 13/06/2021 20:46

If there are anymore lockdowns then we may as well turn out the lights before leaving. The country can not survive another one. It’s madness to think otherwise.

MarshaBradyo · 13/06/2021 20:46

Nanny don’t the curves just get higher in that chart? As transmissibility goes up. They don’t get longer over time

NannyAndJohn · 13/06/2021 20:47

@southeastdweller

The hospitals aren't going to be overwhelmed and there won't be anymore lockdowns, because we now have vaccines.
We need 87% of the population fully vaccinated for herd immunity.

We're currently only half way there.

And the vulnerable will be needing their boosters shortly.

You still spouting this? Lol

I can't be bothered arguing with someone who uses 'lol'. Enjoy your hysteria.

So every winter we lock down due to flu? Maybe the year after we lock down due to norovirus?

Covid cannot be usefully compared to flu and norovirus. Educate yourself.

I can't see them putting a lid on the Delta variant now, and it's already mutated further, picking up the immune escaping SA mutation.

Where is your source fir this?

I disagree with all the above negative posts.
I don't see that there will be further restrictions or a lockdown, autumn 21.

We'll see won't we?

MercyBooth · 13/06/2021 21:10

Im not doing another Christmas lockdown Boris and chums can sit and swivel on a rusty spike.

Girlmama3 · 13/06/2021 21:14

Can she take out insurance that will cover any cancellation or change? If so then I'd carry on plan it.

I don't think we can predict anything now. I hope she gets the wedding she wants x

daseychain · 13/06/2021 21:15

My money is on a complete lockdown by then.

And who's money do you think will fund another lockdown?

Do people honestly think there is a bottomless pot of money to pay furlough?

Get real.

I believe climate change lockdowns are next Hmm
Quartz2208 · 13/06/2021 21:23

It is a difficult one because the balance is between COVID and the effects and take up of lockdown.

For all of those who think there will be lockdowns - how? The effects of another lockdown are potentially longer term even more frightening then COVID itself. We have to figure out how to live with it - and that does mean that those who want a zero covid are probably unrealistic themselves.

Will there potentially be measures in place until next Spring - yes. I think masks are here to stay, I think a certain amount of social distancing, lateral flow testing, self isolation and limits on numbers. So would the OPs daughter be wise to have a Plan A, B and C when it comes to a guest list, yes of course.

And can we stop using that Warwick model - that certainly isnt up-to-date with the latest figures

Arrowheart · 13/06/2021 21:26

@NannyAndJohn

I'm basing my plans for the rest of the year on the assumption that we'll be in full lockdown from mid-July onwards.

Hospitalisations are expected to reach in excess of 20000 a day and Johnson won't do anything before it's too late for anything other than lockdown.

Well this reply from this poster was a complete surprise. 😂

Yes I wondered that

HarrisMcCoo · 13/06/2021 21:33

Many seem to think it's a magic cure getting vaccinated. Best not planning extravagant weddings for foreseeable future tbh. Personally grabbing a few witnesses off the street and marrying quickly at register office then have the party in more certain times when life has become more predictable.

There's going to be more uncertainty for quite a while yet!

Why doesn't that surprise me?

Personally I've got two UK holidays booked in September and December as I prefer to have something to look forward to rather than living in a state of perpetual misery. If they don't go ahead so be it but life's too short to never do anything.

BettyBurntBuns · 13/06/2021 21:39

@Pootle40

Yawn yawn yawn 'new variant'.

If we're not Back to normal by then the country is fucked.

Exactly.
Quartz2208 · 13/06/2021 21:39

I think we need to stop as well being so flippant with the idea of lockdown - without any regard for the long term implications of what that will mean to an awful lot of people as well.
