To expect to be back in lockdown in November

Hi.... my daughter is getting married in November, I've told her to expect the 'no more than 30 ' restrictions to be in place. But I'm secretly hoping all will be normal again. So my question is aibu to advise to only plan for 30 ?(inbu) Or am I being over cautious?.... in which case I am being unreasonable . What do you all really think will be like come November? I'm also thinking it's flu season then and they my tighten restrictions to protect the hospitals from being overwhelmed. Xxx

@Quartz2208 spot on, the flippant way people say “oh it will be a full lockdown by then” annoys the shit out of me. It’s not a default option for every time the bloody NhS gets a bit busy. It’s peoples lives, it’s children’s childhoods, it’s the economy, it’s financial security, it’s living not existing. Lockdowns cannot continue to be an option they need to be taken off the table never to be used again!

Last night I drove my 36 week pregnant wife into the Coombe with serious pains, vomiting, headaches and dehydration. She was also really scared. I asked to be allowed in with her only to be sent back to sit in the car.

Partners are not visitors. Lift the restrictions.

amicissimma · 13/06/2021 21:48

... those who had the first doses back in December will have pretty much no protection left by then,

We have absolutely no idea about how long immunity lasts. It may be that immunity from having the virus lasts longer than from the vaccine, or vice versa, or it may make no difference. Boosters are being prepared in case they turn out to be needed or as a belt-and-braces approach if we still don't know.

People who had SARS Cov-1, the closest virus to SARS Cov-2, have been found to have immunity 17 years later (which is as long as it's been known about). We didn't get a vaccine for that so we know nothing about vaccine-induced immunity.

It would be more reasonable to hope for a similar lasting immunity than it would be to confidently assert that immunity to Cov-2 lasts only a few months.

Quartz2208 · 13/06/2021 21:49

Yes @Katie517 exactly.

Lockdowns just cannot on a national scale keep on happening. We need to I think figure out a sensible set of measures that can work alongside things being open - which sadly means as I hate them masks should remain for awhile. Because they are an easy measure to have. Being sensible with what social distancing can work whilst still ensuring that hospitiality can run, testing etc all of these things that I think we are going to have to for the next few months learn to live with, alongside the risks of getting Covid and hospitalisations

Endofether · 13/06/2021 21:49

Such hypocrisy at G7!

To expect to be back in lockdown in November
bellamountain · 13/06/2021 22:01

We could of course go completely back to normal whether Covid is under control or not should people be able to sign an optional waiver refusing medical treatment. After nearly a year and a half of this, weariness, fatigue and anger is tipped heavily towards the majority who want their lives back.... freely. People have had the vaccine in great numbers to get back to normal, they'd do the same and refuse Covid treatment for their lives back too (I know I would). It would join one of a thousand other ways to die.

strangeshapedpotato · 13/06/2021 22:22

Yes - another lockdown and the country is fucked.

A massive third wave without a lockdown and the country is fucked.

Heck, we're probably already fucked - like the cartoon guy who goes over a cliff and keeps running for a while before realising.... maybe we're there once all the economic implications of the last 12 months are finally accounted for.

socialmediamishap · 13/06/2021 22:34

@NannyAndJohn @SonnetForSpring

You are the most pessimistic gloom lovers I’ve come across on here. If you are CONVINCED we will have a lockdown from mid July until 20222 then why don’t you go out and actually enjoy yourself now?! Instead of sleuthing every covid thread on MN all day, every day.

Oh sorry, what’s that? You don’t have any social invitations…. Can’t imagine why.

SonnetForSpring · 13/06/2021 22:41

The irony haha. You are reading our posts
I've had a lovely day thanks! A full lockdown is inevitable because the government did not and will not do what is required to prevent it. Don't be angry at us. Be angry and boris and the tory party. Repeating the same mistakes over and over and over. Definition of insanity. I'm not happy about a lockdown, I'm bloody pissed off about it. But that's what will happen unless they reintroduce some restrictions. The delta variant is a real threat.

SonnetForSpring · 13/06/2021 22:42

I didn't say it would be mid July to 2022.

Dave20 · 13/06/2021 22:43

I think in theory that we will like be fucked if we’re not back to normal by November, or atleast nearly normal.
Furlough ends this year and I doubt many businesses will just put up with more lockdowns.
Most of us have obeyed the rules. We isolated. We did what we were told. We got vaccinated.
If the vaccines don’t work because of more variants then were doomed. Surely we’d have to just live with it. We can’t ask the people to do anymore.
The country would surely be close to bankruptcy or atleast massive debts that will be a lifetime of austerity.
Our kids lives would be fucked.
So hope not....

You would refuse covid treatment? I highly doubt the practicalities of that. When people are gasping for oxygen, it's pretty difficult to turn it down.

I've not even heard about the Nepal or Vietnam variants @NannyAndJohn .... are they more recent than the Indian one? Xxx

OP posts:
bellamountain · 13/06/2021 22:47

@SonnetForSpring people die in all manner of horrific ways. Why is Covid any different?

Both more recent.

The Vietnam Variant is a mixture of the Indian Variant and the Kent Variant.

The Nepal Variant is a mixture of the Indian Variant and the South Africa Variant, and 36 cases have already been detected in the UK (twitter.com/Dr_D_Robertson/status/1403276590788890624).

In a civilised society, if possible, the aim is to save people or help them achieve a pain free death where is at all possible. Suffocating is not pain free and no one in their right mind in a civilised society would encourage people to opt out of healthcare and allow them to die painful and preventable deaths. That's the antithesis of the medical profession.

I'm quite the opposite of a gloom lover, thanks.

I'm one of the few who has been trying to discuss how we can avoid another lockdown.

But most on here seem to want to let Delta rip, so we'll be left with no option other than lockdown. These are the real gloom lovers.

SonnetForSpring · 13/06/2021 22:54

Agree Nanny, when are people going to accept that by not accepting the reality of the situation, all you are doing is welcoming another lockdown and taking us all with you!

showerbeer · 13/06/2021 22:54

@socialmediamishap honestly. Anyone would think they’re gagging for another lockdown - I’m sure they’re not but it certainly comes across that way!
I feel fair play to be cautious and want to delay opening fully, that’s one thing - but they make this board essentially unusable because they’re on nearly every single thread saying the same shit every time. Highly annoying. It’s not a balanced input because there’s NEVER anything but the worst case scenario.

Thewiseoneincognito · 13/06/2021 22:55

Ultimately no one knows what the situation will be by then. A November lockdown is too specific to call- we have vaccines, however many of the double jabbed vulnerable will be needing booster jabs before the autumn as they will have waning immunity.

We also do not know where we will be in terms of variants.

Ohmydaisy · 13/06/2021 22:57

@Girlmama3 they have discussed insurance, and are ok with a small wedding and a party in the future if worst comes to worst. But have decided they would prefer a small wedding instead of no wedding . So it's all just really about numbers.... they have got 4 lists just incase. 1 of 15 people then 30,60 and full capacity. I'm hoping at least 30 are allowed for her sake xxx

THIS

Deny deny deny. Then complete incredulity when numbers go up and we have to have a full lockdown.
