Moving Moderna 2nd Jabs Sooner

I have read that over 40s are encouraged to move their 2nd jabs sooner. Has anyone successfully cancelled and rebooked for sooner? My partner is wary of cancelling and ending up with a longer interval. Thanks!

Just managed to move my husband’s moderna to this weekend, after checking back in on this thread and seeing others’ success. He could have had it earlier but has a busy week ahead.

I'm still scared of missing out - I don't drive, and there's one central vaccination hub in my area, so any alternative venues mean spending several hours on public transport, which I'm not keen on doing.

In that case just sit tight then. I had to change my date due to a clash with the original.
Comefromaway · 16/06/2021 09:53

Or do it in the early hours of the morning when the system is quiet then the worst would be you could re-book your original slot

@NotJustACigar

It just seems strange I'll be getting moderna at boots!
My local pharmacy runs a hub and is now doing Moderna.
NotJustACigar · 16/06/2021 14:32

Thanks Schulte, that's good to know. I suppose Boots and other pharmacies must be offering either Pfizer or Moderna now since otherwise they'd wouldn't really be able to serve the under 40s.

Horst · 16/06/2021 16:12

My first dose of moderna was at boots it was really good in there to be honest no long lines of people waiting either.

SendCheese · 16/06/2021 16:36

Has anyone been able to get a date before the second week in July? I think I must have been among the first to get Moderna, and I have only been offered alternatives one or two days in advance of my current 11wk appointment. I wondered if it's a supply issue, and there just won't be anything available before I'm due anyway?

Anothermuddywalk · 16/06/2021 16:58

I saw something today on twitter (sorry, don't have the link or anything to back it up beyond "I saw it"...) suggesting that they are working on an update to the system to let you see what is available before you cancel and rebook... So for people worried, might be worth hanging on a bit!

I moved mine at Malvern showground. Was originally booked for 6 July and am now booked for 29 June. Think the earliest date available was 28 June. My first jab was on the third day of Moderna being offered in England.
Comefromaway · 16/06/2021 17:48

I’ve got next week. 25th June. I was originally 1st July.

Peachi82 · 16/06/2021 17:49

Sendcheese, my boyfriend managed to move his from the 21st of July to the 29th of June last night.
I think it won't offer you appointments shorter than 8 weeks from your first jab.

Jabbinell · 16/06/2021 18:03

OH moved his yesterday from 12 to 8 weeks. South East. Thanks to this thread, thanks all!

SendCheese · 16/06/2021 19:16

Thanks all. I'm past 8 weeks now, so I'd have thought that if there was availability in my area (NW) it should be showing up for me. I'll just have to keep checking!

Dahliafairy · 16/06/2021 20:44

@SendCheese - I’m in the NW too and due 2nd Moderna on 1st July. I’m too scared to cancel and rebook in case I lose my original spot! Did you have your first at the Ethiad?

SendCheese · 16/06/2021 21:07

@Dahliafairy yes! Am only being offered Hazel Grove a couple of days before my appointment which is less convenient for me. I was hesitant to try, but I did it early in the morning when I figured traffic on the website would be light. Got my original appointment back no problem when I couldn't find a better one.

Dahliafairy · 16/06/2021 21:13

@SendCheese I think I’ll leave it where it is just in case then! I did see somewhere on Twitter they are making a change to the system to check for appointments before cancelling so I’ll keep checking. Like you, I think I must have been one of the first to get it - I was pleased at the time but now I’m thinking if I had AZ I could have had the 2nd jab as there are loads of walk in clinics near me now.

SendCheese · 16/06/2021 21:33

@Dahliafairy yes I booked the Etihad because I was hoping to get Moderna, but I would have happily taken AZ if that was offered. With hindsight that might have been a better option! Still, I've only got 2 weeks to wait, so it isn't too long in the scheme of things. I'll post back if I see any earlier dates come up.

Freshprincess · 17/06/2021 21:05

Managed to move mine forward through 119. It’s a bit further away, and only a week earlier but as we’re now a surge area better to be safe.

backinthebox · 18/06/2021 16:16

I am nothing if not persistent, so now I know I can have a look-see at availability, I’ve tried again. My original 2nd appointment was 5th July, and having checked, there is still nothing in my area for Moderna earlier than that date. So I am sticking with my original date at Majdeski and that’s that.

WarriorN · 20/06/2021 07:26

Ask around at some pharmacies and check local council fb pages and websites; there are a lot of pop up vaccination sites suddenly. Some list what type of jab they will have on what day.

Here it seems to have started to be less than 8 weeks in some places, as low as 6 weeks for AZ. I was told of several places where there's walkins locally yesterday (friend works for nhs and is part of the organisation but it's all on the council websites.)

We are a rising delta area though, although the bbc showed many pop ups yesterday. They've apparently been working on getting the stock up to a level where they can do this.

CellophaneFlower · 20/06/2021 10:34

I've just brought mine forward. It was 11 weeks, the earliest I could get was 8+3, so happy with that. I was able to see availability at the centre I was already booked at before cancelling, however I moved it to somewhere slightly closer so now I get to avoid the congestion charge Grin

Thiscantreallybehappening · 20/06/2021 10:57

Can you look at availability on the national booking system without cancelling your appointment?

CellophaneFlower · 20/06/2021 12:01

@Thiscantreallybehappening

Can you look at availability on the national booking system without cancelling your appointment?
Yes, you click to cancel then it shows availability before you confirm. But only for the original centre you booked at.
Thiscantreallybehappening · 20/06/2021 14:28

@CellophaneFlower - Thank you
