Covid-19 Getting The Better of You Yet?

I am a fairly positive person usually. My approach to Covid so far has been to "get on" as there is "nothing else we can do" - which I know is still true, but WTF I am running on empty now.

I have worked from home throughout the pandemic - not furloughed. My work day is longer than ever - 12 hours is the new normal and you are constantly feeling on edge for what else you need to be doing. Between the increased work, the non-stop emails, the lockdown and home-schooling spurts, the zoom fatigue and the struggling to stay on top of your gam, it has been a hard hard slog.

Now it will continue longer. I was supposed to relocate to the Continent a year ago - this keeps being pushed back, especially now we are seen as the sick man of Europe again. I know my MH is not what is should be, but have not faced this before and don't know what to do on that front either.

I know many people will say I am "lucky" to keep my job and still be busy and to have avoided getting sick so far, but really - WTF - it is really a struggle at the moment. Is Covid getting the better of anyone else now or is this just me (and a few others I see crumbling)?

@MarshaBradyo one minute? That just sounds batshit!
And if I hear one more time it's about keeping my child safe, no it isn't, if you have an otherwise healthy child there's no direct risk to them so let's not pretend that it's about keeping them safe (excepting of course the clinically vulnerable children).

MarshaBradyo · 15/06/2021 21:07

Arcadia I know I feel like getting annoyed at someone but I can’t, who is there. It’s pathetic. And batshit

Things are moving on except for children, grr!

Arcadia · 15/06/2021 21:28

@MarshaBradyo and yet we used to get fined for taking them out for a day. Well is school important, or not?

MotherofPearl · 15/06/2021 21:30

@MarshaBradyo @Arcadia and everyone else feeling the desperation and impotent rage at it all, I totally understand this. Children have been very far from a priority for this government; they have been treated with utter contempt.

I share that feeling of wanting someone to be furious at.

Arcadia · 15/06/2021 21:49

@MotherofPearl I know, I just don't know what to do with my anger!

MarshaBradyo · 15/06/2021 21:55

The class WhatsApp group had many of same comments, everyone annoyed. Still didn’t help enough!

MotherofPearl · 15/06/2021 22:05

Mine is currently compounded by perimenopausal rage and horrific PMS. Sad

Arcadia · 15/06/2021 22:30

@MotherofPearl I hear you, I know longer know what is down to this and what is down to the perimenopause !
I'm sure my emotions will cycle back to numb acceptance soon. The crappy weather coming our way will help to dampen my spirits further.

Arcadia · 15/06/2021 22:31

No longer know!

Arcadia · 15/06/2021 22:33

The football is also giving me the absolute rage. Should have all been cancelled as far as I'm concerned.

MotherofPearl · 15/06/2021 22:45

@Arcadia, I'm sure it's no consolation at all, but ranting chatting to you and sharing a moment of angry solidarity has helped me to feel marginally better. It's nice to feel that there are some like-minded rage-filled women out there! Grin

And I agree about the football. It's ridiculous that it's happening at all.

Arcadia · 15/06/2021 22:46

Thanks @MotherofPearl same for me, it does help to rant to people who understand and feel the same. We are not alone!

HandsOffMyRights · 16/06/2021 01:07

I'm perimenopausal and fuming. Mainly on behalf of my kids too. And the women, the mothers who have to deal with holding this shit show together.
I cannot even look at Johnson and Hancock. I used to watch the briefings, but now I can't because of the extraordinary rage I feel towards our male 'leaders'.

fedup078 · 16/06/2021 06:20

I'm getting more stressed now because people are saying this new variant has all the hallmarks of a cold when it comes to symptoms
Kids have snotty noses etc almost permanently!
We will be forever testing or isolating !
In fact if you look at a list of symptoms literally every ailment you can imagine could also come with a Covid symptom !
I had chilblains for the first time this winter and when I looked them up I came across 'Covid toes' I mean wtf!

  Fever or chills
	Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
	Fatigue
	Muscle or body aches
	Headache
New loss of taste or smell
	Sore throat
	Congestion or runny nose
	Nausea or vomiting
	Diarrhea
Arcadia · 16/06/2021 08:22

@fedup078 it is crap but on the other hand if it becomes more like a cold then eventually it may just be another strain of mild cold virus and that's what we're hoping for!

Arcadia · 16/06/2021 09:38

@HandsOffMyRights I know I feel the same, I can't watch the briefings anymore.
What worries me is the lack of debate and critical thinking, 'because Covid' has become like some kind of religious dogma that can't be questioned or reasoned with.
We are no longer in an emergency situation.
Rules and measures now need to be examined critically and a balance of harm test applied.
