Is there an end in sight for no masks?

Off the back of seeing the world leaders at G7 with no social distancing or masks (yes I know they will have been fully vaccinated and tested etc)...
When do you predict we will see an end to wearing masks?
I know lots of people aren’t having to wear them if they are in offices but I work in education and our school requires them to be worn outside as well as inside, it’s been tough all year but unbearable in this heat.
Also creating a lovely sweat storm which is doing wonders for my complexion Envy

Also worth remembering the time Hancock was surreptitiously filmed removing his mask next to an aide the moment he stepped inside number 10 Downing Street away from the prying media.

VIDEO Pity the closer on the door of No 10 is slow unless you shut it manually.

I'm not wearing them on the school run any more. I'll wear them inside, but not outside.

Kathunk · 12/06/2021 21:26

I have had no problem wearing them over the last year, it’s been difficult to get used to (especially for the young children I work with) but I knew how important it was.
But when the world leaders who set the rules can’t even follow them how do they expect everyone else to?
What’s more difficult is not all workspaces require them.
It’s easy enough for people to say ‘oh it’s not that bad, I don’t see what the fuss is’ but when you’re wearing the mask for 8 hours a day and then any time you need to go to the supermarket etc and are suffering from various ailments as a result of the masks then it’s not as clear cut.
Vaccination was meant to be the road out of lockdown yet here we are with a new variant, which was obviously going to happen because that’s what viruses do.

Not bothered what politicians do . Johnson is a fuckwit, doesn't mean I should aspire to be a fuckwit too.

Masks are no fun. It's a pandemic. Varying degrees of shit for all of us. Suck it up.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 12/06/2021 21:48

I've stopped wearing one now.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 12/06/2021 21:53

I cannot wait till they go. It’s no joke in this sweltering weather, particularly when you then throw hayfever into the mix. Those people who WANT to wear them forever can. There’s no justification for us all having to do it.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/06/2021 21:56

The rates in my city have gone up 40% this week.

I will be wearing my mask

The exact same masks have been prescribed for years for hayfever sufferers...

I don't have hay fever so don't know what you mean, are you saying that's a good or a bad thing Confused

I have suffered hayfever for decades and never heard of that. In my experience masks make it a hundred times worse.

I'm desperately hoping that once all adults have been offered the vaccine then we can choose whether to wear them or not. So long as people aren't dying or getting seriously ill then does it matter if cases are rising or not? The common cold rises and falls in case numbers every year and.for the majority covid is no worse. We wouldnt even be aware of most of the cases without testing as it can be so mild.

I have complied with mask wearing but I'm finding them harder and harder to tolerate. I'm sure some people are fine with them but wearing them with glasses that mist up makes every trip out miserable.

NannyAndJohn · 12/06/2021 23:56

@Sgtmajormummy

DS is a medical student. So a bit more in the know than me. He says once vaccination numbers are over 60% of the population then herd immunity is ensured and masks outside become superfluous.

Italy is talking about no masks outside from mid July.

The herd immunity threshold is 87%.
Arrowheart · 13/06/2021 00:03

I can't wait to ditch the scruffy piece of cloth I wear to participate in the covid theatre. It's usually stuffed in my back pocket or down the back of a seat in my car but hey look at me, I'm soooo covid compliant. Bloody ridiculous things.

Ostara212 · 13/06/2021 00:05

I'm really worried theyll introduce masks outside

Nothing makes sense so that might be next in the mix.

Yep, the minute it’s not mandated I will be ecstatic

MercyBooth · 13/06/2021 00:33

@SunshineSum Yeah the G7 is wall to wall chavs Hmm

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 13/06/2021 00:39

Although vaccinated and very risk averse I and my family including young child seems to be the rare masked these days. And I am referring to central London where apart from TfL transportation hubs most people are pretty much unmasked. And that’s even many shop keepers and shoppers of all ages. These people are the majority self declared disabled that selfishly can’t be bothered to be masked and would not be surprised if also unvaccinated or anti vax and never asymptomatic test either. No wonder it’s super spreading again as only take one with more contagious variants. Expecting a Cornish variant soon possibly!? Sounds déjà vu 2020 again as even double vaccinated have died from latest Covid variants. Anyone surprised in extension of current English Covid behavioural instructions. Not as evidently are rules/instructions even superficially followed especially when there is never any enforcement and when it’s hot and sunny. Just to note I hate masks as uncomfortable but I get it and do it for me, my family and you! No one even cares about wearing masks anymore with as seemingly the new contagion is to take masks off when others are also unmasked as if coordinated and mutually preferable.

XenoBitch · 13/06/2021 00:43

I hope they get ditched soon. I am unable to wear them so it is not an issue for me personally... but it is a big issue to be seeing a mental health professional and not be able to read their expressions.

Malteser71 · 13/06/2021 00:50

Well according to the press this evening, we need to carry on until the spring.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 13/06/2021 01:04

Simply put it does not take a scientist to understand that the least Covid risk mitigation the more and longer the restrictions and the larger numbers fatalities and post Covid syndrome suffers etc etc etc. Risk mitigation measures has utility in a pandemic and masks are a global scientifically agree benefit (as worn by surgeons for hours doing high concentration high stress work) and tolerated as a common curtesy in civilised society to others and being mindful of one’s potential Covid footprint being a part of the solution not forever the problem.

TheClaws · 13/06/2021 01:19

@BonnieDundee

I hate them, but it's pretty clear they help stop spread of an airborne virus.

I disagree. And BoJo and his mates had at least one picture taken inside where no masks were being worn. One rule for the elite. The rest of us can get fucked

🙄 You still don't think masks help stop germs escaping when an ill person coughs, sneezes or just breathes on you when they're standing behind you in a queue? Have you ever had someone sneeze on you in that situation when they're not wearing a mask? I have. It's gross. I felt the snotty particles land on my shoulders and hair. Confused

Hawkins001 · 13/06/2021 01:25

To be honest considering some of the hygiene standards people have e.g. Even in pandemic era, people still.going to toilet then walking straight back out with our even washing their hands and the resulting bugs that float around the air, I'd prefer to be wearing a mask.
