Is there an end in sight for no masks?

Off the back of seeing the world leaders at G7 with no social distancing or masks (yes I know they will have been fully vaccinated and tested etc)...
When do you predict we will see an end to wearing masks?
I know lots of people aren’t having to wear them if they are in offices but I work in education and our school requires them to be worn outside as well as inside, it’s been tough all year but unbearable in this heat.
Also creating a lovely sweat storm which is doing wonders for my complexion Envy

@Whatalottachocca

Mine goes under my nose, I need to breathe. I don’t care a fig what anyone thinks of me for doing this.
Just as well as it would hardly be complimentary. But why do you bother with the mask at all if you aren't going to wear it? You say you don't care what people think, but you clearly do, otherwise you'd be maskless.
Topseyt · 13/06/2021 08:45

I can't wait to ditch them once and for all. They are only minimally protective at best.

If we were ever to be told to wear them outside then I would have no intention of complying.

I was on a train last week in a carriage that had nobody else in it. I pulled my mask down and left it under my chin. I'm not struggling to keep it on with nobody else around. Fuck that.

I was also on my own on a station platform in the arse end of nowhere and didn't wear it there either. Fuck that too.

I wear it where really necessary like in shops or to GP or hospital appointments. Otherwise no, and I never will.

Couldn't give a shit what anyone else thinks.

Masks have clearly stopped dh from spreading covid but not in the manner intended. Basically, he hates wearing them so much he has decided in preference to not go out of the house. I am less extreme but I certainly don't dally when i go out and about in one. Can't wait for the damn things to go.

SurelyNott · 13/06/2021 09:19

Why do people always post that children can adapt to them happily.

Why is that a good thing? Was at a kids birthday party the other day, restricted to 6, sat at a distance to eat sad beige food on an individual plate, birthday child stood like a leper in a corner with a single bun with a candle in it so the main cake won’t get blown on and can be Covid safely cut and shared. Kids were ok, they were “used to it”.

Kids can get used to anything we teach them is normal it makes me so so sad to see them masked up and isolated. I hate the damn things.

BeaMinus · 13/06/2021 09:20

@Sparklingbrook

People that wear them under their noses make me Hmm. Or constantly fiddle with them. I have to wear one all day at work and I hate it so tales of people moaning about wearing one in a shop for 15 minutes or so also make me Hmm.

I do not LOVE masks I have no choice but to wear it.

I agree. So strange that adults can't manage this. I don't love masks, but I really don't see wearing one as an issue at all.
Schools in Asia, including in British international schools, have all children in masks. They seem to have no problem with it at all.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 13/06/2021 09:21

A woman from Sage was quoted as saying we need to wear masks indefinitely. I don't think I can cope with that. I live in a place where people used to say hello to everyone. Now people are suspicious of anyone they don't know, and with masks on you don't always recognise acquaintences unless they speak. This is the hardest thing for me.

whatswithtodaytoday · 13/06/2021 09:31

I always assume that people who whinge about masks - unless they have a very serious medical or mental health reason not to wear them - are also likely to be people who have had people round their houses and taken little notice of lockdowns. So best avoided!

Sparklingbrook · 13/06/2021 09:34

It makes me wonder whether people that worked in jobs where masks weren't previously worn but now 'have' to wear them had to resign because they couldn't wear a mask all day? Confused

Ponoka7 · 13/06/2021 09:43

I was really surprised at people not wearing masks who were meeting the Queen and how close they were getting to her. This was indoors at the cake cutting, with the sword bit. Also, as said the scenes of politicians/other royals not wearing masks indoors. I'm starting to get a bit suspicious, tbh.

I have been traveling on trains the last week and once sat down, everyone in the carriage removed our masks. If it can't get me sat down in the pub, then trains with open windows/doors should be ok.

I could see the point on the Underground etc. But I don't believe that the data is there for all of the situations we are told to wear them in. People wore them in Primark lifts because the 'one household per lift' would mean too long a wait and we could see the reasoning there. I don't believe that we are applying the rules via evidence based science. Perhaps we are keeping the masks because when we need them, Winter, no one will go back to them.

Malteser71 · 13/06/2021 09:43

‘People who whinge.’

Having an opinion is ‘whingeing.’

Sounds like you just object to people who disagree with you.

TheClaws · 13/06/2021 09:44
@TheClaws no I don't.think the ones everyone use make any difference. Thankfully people don't go round coughing/sneezing on me so I can't say I've had that.experience. Thankfully

anyway if they don't need to wear them at G7 why should i? There have been many many cases in this.pandemic.where those.setting the rules have flouted them. Either they think they are.above the law or they are lying to us. Either way I'm through
Childish response. And you haven't had the experience of someone coughing/sneezing on you yet. When/if they do - particularly now - I'm betting you'd prefer they were wearing a mask to mitigate the amount of snotty, germy air that is blasted into your personal space. (You won't know if they're vaccinated or not, either, and I'm assuming that all attendees of the G7 are fully vaccinated.)

Ponoka7 · 13/06/2021 09:45

@Sparklingbrook, people were allowed to wear head visors instead.

Ponoka7 · 13/06/2021 09:49

For those saying that they don't work. I've had to be on public transport all through this. Two of my key worker DD'S have, the other gets lifts/taxis. I know many key workers, including taxi drivers. None of us have got the usual heavy coughs and colds etc this year. We haven't had less people around us, so the increased hygiene and masks must be part of the reason. I do get that there's been less of other viruses circulating. But they are still around.

Suranjeep · 13/06/2021 09:52

@Abraxan

Weren't the photographs from the G7 mainly outside? So masks not actually required in this country in most situations.

At school we now only need to wear masks outside during drop off/pick up due to a small playground but lots of people around. Indoors it's really only for meetings with external visitors and outside of the classroom if crossing bubbles or in a crowded area - but rarely now.

Outside yes for the G7 lot, but some of photos show scenes that if a pub was allowing to happen would be in trouble with the local council if they found out.
TheVampiresWife · 13/06/2021 10:26

@tonystarksrighthand

I get the impression people just love masks, vaccines, rules, love it .... love getting their rulers out to measure 2 meters. They just LOVE it.

Sad that there is nothing in their lives.

I unashamedly love vaccines Smile

Oh come on. What's wrong with not wearing a mask when there's nobody around? On a deserted train platform? Who are you going to infect?

Define 'very serious'?

It's so depressing that some of the attitudes on mask threads haven't changed in almost a year.

Some people are exempt and some have conditions which you may not consider 'very serious'. Happily you and people like you don't get to decide what constitutes grounds for exemption.

Suranjeep · 13/06/2021 10:33

If the platform isnt covered you dont have to legally wear one anyway as the legisation says the area must be "significantly covered"

This is one of the reasons why there are exemptions.
newnortherner111 · 13/06/2021 10:35

To answer the OPs question as to anything like a date, I doubt it. I also think that they may be retained in some situations. Your school may be keeping them longer than some others.

Sparklingbrook · 13/06/2021 10:39

This is one of the reasons why there are exemptions

I know there are some exemptions, but I meant more the dramatic can't/won't people that just don't like wearing a mask, claim they can't breathe when it's just a job requirement that's all.

happytoday73 · 13/06/2021 10:41

I don't think face coverings prevent transmission... Medical masks or higher spec masks put on correctly, not messed with and replaced regularly yes.... Face coverings not to decent spec, worn far too long, not cleaned properly and regularly touched... Not worth it.

The school in Derbyshire that had literally hundreds of cases while wearing face covering shows that. My child's school never stopped face coverings and 8 cases last week in one class alone...

You can “assume” what you like. I “whinge” about masks but have complied with every other rule. I haven’t had a visitor in my home since March 2020 either.
pissface · 13/06/2021 10:56

I don't get some people's attitude here. Just because you're okay with masks doesn't mean everyone else has to be, if most are wearing one even though it's annoying for them why does it bother you? Some people hate social distancing but I don't mind(quite like!) it but that doesn't mean everyone has to feel the same as me.
