Is there an end in sight for no masks?

Off the back of seeing the world leaders at G7 with no social distancing or masks (yes I know they will have been fully vaccinated and tested etc)...
When do you predict we will see an end to wearing masks?
I know lots of people aren’t having to wear them if they are in offices but I work in education and our school requires them to be worn outside as well as inside, it’s been tough all year but unbearable in this heat.
Also creating a lovely sweat storm which is doing wonders for my complexion Envy

I've stopped wearing mine

wheresmymojo · 13/06/2021 23:32

@Wildswim

There were pictures of them at G7 taken inside at a conference room, not socially distanced, with no masks.

I took mine off long ago and haven't worn one since.

#Ditchthemask

Which is perfectly in keeping with the rest of society.

Those of us back in offices don't wear masks while seated in meetings with 2m distance as per the G7 photo.

BonnieDundee · 13/06/2021 23:57

It wasn't 2m distance

TheClaws · 14/06/2021 02:01

You won't know if they're vaccinated or not, either, and I'm assuming that all attendees of the G7 are fully vaccinated

So it must surely follow that ordinary members of the public who have been fully vaccinated shouldnt have to wear them then. *

@MercyBooth, this is a misquote from me. Please put in full paragraphs for context as this doesn't make any sense - eg. If you don't know if they're vaccinated or not, you'd want them wearing masks - not discarding them as you're suggesting.

Vivana · 14/06/2021 05:01

I just want to get rid of the dam things. Working for 12 hour shifts in one in this heat is unbearable

WouldBeGood · 14/06/2021 05:18

I really hope it’s soon. To be honest, that would make me cope better with other ongoing restrictions.

Denmark has announced that their mask mandate is to be lifted, I think from tomorrow. I really hope we follow.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 14/06/2021 12:46

But will the government actually tell us when we can stop? Isn’t it easier for them if we keep on wearing masks as it costs them nothing?

Their whole policy is to put in all the effort on our side, testing our children, social distancing, masks, working from home, massive disruption to all of our lives.

But the government have rather dropped the ball on their side of things.

17 months in and the two most important parts of a covid strategy - test trace and isolate, border control and quarantine - are still ineffective and unfit for purpose.

The trouble is you need competent governance at a time like this. The people can't do it all by themselves.

The British people didn't let in an even worse variant, discover it by April 1st, then a) continue to let MORE if it in and b) do very little about it and just let it spread all over the country for months. That was the government's responsibility. As we're opening up on May 17th and removing the mask mandate in schools.

And now lhere we are.

@NannyAndJohn

I have suffered from hay fever for the last five decades.

2020 and 2021 have been the only years where I haven't shown any symptoms at all.

2020 and 2021 have been the only years where I have been wearing a mask.

Coincidence?

probably!

I haven't suffered from hayfever since i was a child but christ this year i am suffering - is it covid? or is it a coincidence?

of course its a bloody coincidence. Do you seriously think pollen cant find it's way through a scrap of material. Of course it can.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 14/06/2021 13:32

Princess Yay! I'm so pleased about schools! But I'm envious - when can the rest of us stop? I think they will announce it very, very quietly, if they announce it at all. I don't want to break the law, or be banned from places - but I don't want to wear a mask a second longer than I have too!

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 14/06/2021 14:23

What’s the latest speculation? Is there going to be a great unmasking in schools? That would scientifically be a medical risk as a bit bold and concerning but in the actual real world no one (particularly from my observation in central London when it’s currently sunny pretending to drink) wears masks anyway anymore. It’s probably the self declared rights of the adult population post double vaccination syndrome - you know being super human bulletproof invincible and apparently at the same time hard wired to Microsoft. I am still awaiting the latter as is my brain now plugged in to track and trace etc?!

mrsrobin · 14/06/2021 14:34

@OrangeBananaFish

Unfortunately not. I feel envious of those in areas with low compliance. I'm not bothered about wearing one myself, but I hate looking at others in masks. I never look at people's faces anymore. Even after all this time it just looks awful and I can't get used to it.

I can't wait to bin the mask, then again I'd be happy to drop all restrictions now. Its time to get back to normal. Its not going anywhere and there will always be variants. meh.

I agree
Cafeaulait27 · 20/06/2021 13:53

I’ve noticed a fair few people not wearing masks recently which I didn’t used to see before. All men actually. One in the supermarket, one in a clothes shop, and a few on the train. I have no idea if they have health issues or anxiety or whatever but my guess is that they are just healthy 30 something men who can’t be bothered to wear them anymore.

I don’t like wearing them, mainly as they’re uncomfortable in summer and make communication difficult, but I will still wear mine until we’re told we don’t have to.

They’ve been very quiet on what the mask situation will be after 19th July. It would be lovely if they could go but we’ll see.

What information is your guess based on? Are you aware of invisible disabilities?

Cafeaulait27 · 20/06/2021 15:33

@Orf1abc yep totally aware of that, I even mentioned anxiety there which is an invisible issue - hence saying that I made a guess.

My hay fever has been worse this year than it ever has been. It was bad last year (but not as bad), the 2 summers I've been wearing masks.

Coincidence?

Againstmachine · 20/06/2021 18:52

Your masks are probably making pollen worse just saying

Cafeaulait27 · 23/06/2021 09:08

I hope so… read on the bbc this morning:

According to the Times, all remaining lockdown restrictions, including social distancing, face masks and the guidance to work from home are on track to be lifted on 19 July. The paper says the government has been encouraged by the low number of coronavirus deaths recently. After rules are lifted, the emphasis will be on "personal responsibility", a government source says, and people will be advised to wear masks in certain circumstances.
