Is there an end in sight for no masks?

Off the back of seeing the world leaders at G7 with no social distancing or masks (yes I know they will have been fully vaccinated and tested etc)...
When do you predict we will see an end to wearing masks?
I know lots of people aren’t having to wear them if they are in offices but I work in education and our school requires them to be worn outside as well as inside, it’s been tough all year but unbearable in this heat.
Also creating a lovely sweat storm which is doing wonders for my complexion Envy

No sign of them disappearing where I live - obligatory outside in busy areas as well as inside. They cause my BP to spike alarmingly when it's hot, so I won't be able to go anywhere soon. Really annoying when others don't wear them in small spaces - was in the changing room for physio a couple of weeks ago with about 10 others, at least 5 maskless. Reported them to reception but they don't seem to care. They'll care if there's an outbreak in their department!

chaosrabbitland · 13/06/2021 01:42

iv taken to wearing it just under my nose , im fed up to the back teeth of feeling like i cant breathe properly at work and on the bus and theres no way im going to be told by this goverment i have to wear it indefinatly

chaosrabbitland · 13/06/2021 01:45

@Ostara212

I'm really worried theyll introduce masks outside

Nothing makes sense so that might be next in the mix.

and that will be the day i wont be wearing a mask anymore , if they do this i hope it would be the day people are finally going to rebel and refuse to obey any longer
Willyoujustbequiet · 13/06/2021 01:46

I definitely think doing away with them in school has caused the outbreak at our local high school and it appears so do PHE as they've told everyone to wear them again.

Only an idiot would want to get rid of them with the delta variety in play.

ApplesinmyPocket · 13/06/2021 02:01

"Simply put it does not take a scientist to understand that the least Covid risk mitigation the more and longer the restrictions and the larger numbers fatalities and post Covid syndrome suffers etc etc etc. Risk mitigation measures has utility in a pandemic and masks are a global scientifically agree benefit (as worn by surgeons for hours doing high concentration high stress work) "

It doesn't take a scientist to understand it, no, but it does seem to take more than the average 'anti-dementor' MN-er to grasp that masks restrict the spread of infection.

I've watched small children adapt to wearing them as a norm (for now), skip about shops and markets in them, happily do dance classes in them, but no, some of us adults here in the UK are too special and precious to take this small measure without whining and grizzling about it.

You'd think some on here, straining at the leash for 'freedom', don't actually want it the way they're so espoused to not doing any of the things which might mean we actually get out of this hell we're all in.

Maybeetomorrow · 13/06/2021 02:11

It’s not really that hard to wear one, it is if you decide it is and throw a tantrum that causes psychological triggers but it’s not that hard.

I have severe asthma and a history of anxiety attacks and manage fine wearing a mask.

I support those who are exempt and genuinely can’t wear them it course.

But I think others need to grow up.

If you’re that bothered just lie and say you’re exempt. It really is if no effect to you if others wear them.

Maybeetomorrow · 13/06/2021 02:12

* ^^^I don’t actually endorse lying and saying you’re exempt but I don’t get why the anti maskers are so bothered about others wearing them.

BonnieDundee · 13/06/2021 05:12

@TheClaws no I don't.think the ones everyone use make any difference. Thankfully people don't go round coughing/sneezing on me so I can't say I've had that.experience. Thankfully

anyway if they don't need to wear them at G7 why should i? There have been many many cases in this.pandemic.where those.setting the rules have flouted them. Either they think they are.above the law or they are lying to us. Either way I'm through

TheVampiresWife · 13/06/2021 06:27

@SunshineSum

Mask refusers irl are dead chavvy. Surprised there's so many of them on mn which I'd previously thought had loads of poshos on it.
Ooh classism, that's nice.
Roonerspismed · 13/06/2021 06:31

I simply don’t believe cloth masks worn as we all do make any difference: for me to carry on I want to see some decent evidence. Certainly for kids - in Scotland we have five year olds masked. Just fuck off with that

TheVampiresWife · 13/06/2021 06:34

@XenoBitch

I hope they get ditched soon. I am unable to wear them so it is not an issue for me personally... but it is a big issue to be seeing a mental health professional and not be able to read their expressions.
Same here - I'm exempt but I can't wait for them to go. Not only because of the judgement and abuse exempt people get, the belief that we're not trying hard enough/could wear a visor etc. But also, my hearing is shit and I didn't realise until masks were a thing that I relied on stuff like lip reading and facial expressions so much. Also people being muffled by masks makes hearing what they're saying much harder to begin with. I've lost count of the times I've had to ask people to repeat themselves. Its daft but I find it embarrassing.
AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/06/2021 06:37

I really hate them as working in healthcare I’ve found they rurally hinder communication with people especially those who struggle already, I hope they go at some point for health staff particularly when the NHS places such great value on effective communication and that just isn’t happening, I also dislike them when it comes to palliative care it just feel so impersonal

tonystarksrighthand · 13/06/2021 06:58

@AlexaShutUp

I honestly don't understand the strength of feeling against mask wearing. Yes, they're a pain in the arse, but it isn't that big a deal. I think we need to keep them for now until the situation stabilises.

I don't understand why on earth you want to wear a filthy, sweaty mask. It's vile.

They've hardly worked thou have they? Where is the evidence they've made any difference?

I've never worn one and never will.

tonystarksrighthand · 13/06/2021 07:01

I get the impression people just love masks, vaccines, rules, love it .... love getting their rulers out to measure 2 meters. They just LOVE it.

Sad that there is nothing in their lives.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 13/06/2021 07:05

I work in a school too and although in theory staff are supposed to wear masks in corridors, despite everyone now being vaccinated, in practice only the terminally paranoid still are (and probably will be forever) and only they are still is bothering with sanitising desks etc. Masks are hot and disgustingly unhygienic.
No cases in our school despote being in an area where the ‘delta’ variant is supposedly rampant.

Do you wear one in a stuffy office for 8 hours a day?
millenialblush · 13/06/2021 07:07

@sunshinesum has laid it bare. Masks are now being used to make a political/social statement, just as they were in the US. No one actually knows how well they work.

If people stopped wearing masks and switched off the news you wouldn't even know Covid existed.

Whatalottachocca · 13/06/2021 07:58

Mine goes under my nose, I need to breathe. I don’t care a fig what anyone thinks of me for doing this.

You might as well not wear it, you look stupid btw.
TooManyPlatesInMotion · 13/06/2021 08:10

I was on a bus yesterday and took it off. As did most others on the bus, because London was so hot and stifling. If it is a choice between puking into it or getting accused of being selfish then I know which one I'll take.

Sparklingbrook · 13/06/2021 08:19

People that wear them under their noses make me Hmm. Or constantly fiddle with them.
I have to wear one all day at work and I hate it so tales of people moaning about wearing one in a shop for 15 minutes or so also make me Hmm.

I do not LOVE masks I have no choice but to wear it.

Roselilly36 · 13/06/2021 08:25

No idea, but I can’t wait to ditch them.

As I've said on another thread for some people they are a pain in the arse, for many, many others they are far.more
ZoBo123 · 13/06/2021 08:31

We have been wearing them long enough now to conclude, given the number of people who have tested positive since they came in last July, that they don't work to prevent Covid. I think if they are not ditched on June 21st then I would like to see evidence of how they are effective. Also the previous poster who mentioned masks to prevent hay fever, one of the main symptoms of hay fever is itching. You would be forever itching your face more with a mask on not less

Roselilly36 · 13/06/2021 08:31

@tonystarksrighthand totally right there! A man in a mask & gloves said sorry to my husband in the supermarket yesterday, DH said why are you sorry, for getting within 2mtrs of DH. Absolutely bonkers.
