And are then contacted by track and trace, what do we have to do? ie do we need to self-isolate?

I have tried to google, but can't seem to find the answer.

OP posts:
Onceuponatime1818 · 10/06/2021 11:52

We eat/drink outside and I don’t check myself in as I don’t want to have to isolate for 10 days unless we really need to.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 10/06/2021 11:58

If you don't want to be contacted, just switch off the trace function within the app. You can still 'check in' but it won't trace you. Win win.

towers14 · 10/06/2021 12:12

Just leave a false number, lots of people do. I take issue with checking in and not checking out at the gym, pub etc, not downloaded the app for this reason. I won't get paid to isolate.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 10/06/2021 12:28

Police are doing spot checks here and asking for ID in pubs and restaurants. We were checked two weekends ago

What will they do if you don't have ID? I don't have any. Will I be thrown out of a pub for not carrying ID? No.

applesanddares · 10/06/2021 12:35

Oh easy. Don't check in at the pub 🤪

What a load of crap. It's just all scaremongering. What they going to do if you don't have ID?! Sweet FA that's what
TheLovelinessOfDemons · 10/06/2021 12:42

@osbertthesyrianhamster My point was that presumably McDonald's are supposed to ask us to check in, but they don't. I use the app, I have no problem with it. I want my shielding son to be able to leave the house, so I want to know if I've been in contact with someone with Covid.

roarfeckingroarr · 10/06/2021 12:50

This is why most people I know don't leave their real number

Merciess · 10/06/2021 13:19

And if I knew anyone had done it I'd be going NC with them immediately

I bet they'll be devastated

Yea right; I call BS. It’s not a legal requirement to carry ID

Couldn't care less. The people I socialise with feel the same about this as I do.
SlipperyLizard · 10/06/2021 13:28

I can’t help but think that checking in to venues is (must be) purely performative - unless you turn contact tracing on then the app won’t tell anyone where you sat/who was close to you or when you left. For that reason, I don’t think anyone will ever be asked to isolate purely as a result of checking into a venue where someone later tests positive.

Happy to be proved wrong, but I think the government is just trying to make it seem like they have a functioning track & trace system when they don’t.

roarfeckingroarr · 10/06/2021 15:56

I would quite happily disown sanctimonious COVID police friends!

Me, too, and do!
motogogo · 10/06/2021 16:02

We collect details at work. It's use the app or leave correct details, we can be inspected and if they are obviously fake forced to close (yes the two calling themselves George clooney and Brad Pitt were asked for id!)

shinynewapple21 · 10/06/2021 16:03

Everyone I know checks in with official track and trace app.

I don't know anyone (last year or this) who has been contacted and asked to isolate because of the pub/ restaurant they were in .

You of course have the right to disown whom you please, just as others have a right not to associate with liars who have little or no sense of social responsibility.

Thus everyone can draw their social circles from people with similar values.

newnortherner111 · 10/06/2021 17:34

@TheLovelinessOfDemons I'd be more concerned about McDonalds or other fast food places, as there is less spreading out, and more of the customers are under 16 and not wearing face coverings at school or among friends.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 10/06/2021 18:47

Our McDonald's has much wider spaced tables now, and it's compulsory for secondary school children, anyway, to wear masks at school. Also, we sat at our own table and only interacted with the staff who brought our food. We only took our masks off to eat. I do think it odd that we weren't asked to check in though.

I am so glad to find someone else who understand that check ins and contact tracing are two different things!

OP and everyone else worrying about being told to isolate as a result of checking in, please read this
faq.covid19.nhs.uk/article/KA-01312/en-us?parentid=CAT-01033&rootid=

Checkins will not result in you being asked to self isolate. Having the contact tracing bit of the app turned on might. There's no need to pretend to scan the app, no need to give false info. The most that will happen is an alert along the lines of "be careful you might have been in contact with a positive case."

RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/06/2021 19:02

Some info I posted on another thread about the purpose of checking in:
So PHE can identify outbreaks at venues ans send alerts to people who may have been there at the same time as the positive person, advising them they might have been in contact and to ensure they abide by current social distancing guidelines. It's the contact tracing part of the app (which can be turned off) which can detect close contact and tell you to self isolate.

If you go into the app, click on about this app, then how this app works, then what the app does, there's lots of info about how each part of the app works and what can happen as a result of them.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/06/2021 19:22

@denverRegina

"Does anyone know why venues have to collect contact details then? What’s the point if they’re not used?"

All the information is right there in the app. You won't be told to self isolate if you check in to a venue where someone later tests positive for COVID19.

You might be made aware it happened though so that you can go and get a test just in case.

Also allows PHE to monitor outbreaks and data in order to better understand the spread.

But then you get utter morons who can't even be arsed to read the FAQs before taking to MN and other forums claiming "everyone I know just gives a fake number" Hmm

This is the first thread I've been on where several people other than me understand the difference between venue check in, and contact tracing, and know what each does - I'm glad to not be the only one trying to explain!
RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/06/2021 19:29

@Watapalava

Katie the app only updates at midnight or at your next check in so i think it depends

pub staff have told me written details (many dont have app inc myself) are handed over for all people who visited that day

i agree most pretend or give fake

They're handed over only if requested, and as others have said are not used to tell people to self isolate
RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/06/2021 19:32

I've no issue being tracked for real exposure - i get full pay - but i wont isolate for being a contact of someone who went out at 9pm when i was out at 3pm

this does happen - loads of restaurants and bars have confirmed this to me

How do they know this is happening? How do they know what is done with any paper details they are asked to hand over? And how do they know that people who only checked in, and did not have contact tracing turned on, have been sent a message telling them to self isolate?
