If we go to the pub

And are then contacted by track and trace, what do we have to do? ie do we need to self-isolate?

I have tried to google, but can't seem to find the answer.

OP posts:
Watapalava · 09/06/2021 23:39

pubs are not hot pots or transmission so very possible - didnt ons data show only 5% transmission was at pubs?

i just asked about leaving my details at restaurants and when i tried to leave i asked about checking out and was told its automatic at midnight

lots of times i've been told this - app may be different but i believe it only check you out if you check in elsewhere

tbf ive socialised throughout and gone the pub loads and don't have app and never been track and traced (even when i gave real details !')

i know people who've had app who've isolate 6-7 x which is piss take in work - those with app stand out massively

Jennyfromtheculdesac · 09/06/2021 23:52

@HarrietOh

I’ve been checking into various places on the app last year and past few weeks. I highly doubt everyone who checked into the pub that day is contacted and has to isolate?!
So what is the point of being asked to check in/provide contact details if it’s not for track and trace in the event of a positive case? Why else do they need this?
Ostara212 · 10/06/2021 00:15

@DuckyMcDuck

It's hypothetical at the moment. I'm due to go to a pub for the first time on Saturday but I cant risk having to self-isolate. All the info seems to say if you have had 'close contact' with someone who tests positive, you will need to SI.

Obviously it would be different if it's someone I go with, but I'm worried I'll be told to if it's just a stranger who happened to be in the same pub who tests +'ve

That's why I won't go

Two weeks isolation in a hot small flat. No thanks. I can sit in the park and drink with my friends.

My parents are pissed off that I won't go, but they think T& T operates properly. 🤷🏻‍♀️

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 10/06/2021 06:32

pubs are not hot pots or transmission

Love that autocorrect, not hot pots unless they are The Rovers Return and Betty is behind the bar Grin

I don't watch the soaps but now I'm wondering if they take all the details in the venues on them Smile

Winkywonkydonkey · 10/06/2021 06:39

Ive worked with NHS staff who were all told to turn off their apps because they were having to isolate constantly.

I haven't turned my app on since about a month after it was introduced.

fairgame84 · 10/06/2021 06:40

Just don't go to Bella Italia at Castleford. They won't let you go in until you show them the green tick that you have checked in on the app. They also won't let you in unless you give a separate phone number for everyone over 16 in your group. DS is 16 and is autistic, he doesn't have a phone but that's irrelevant to them. I ended up giving a fake number.

Don’t let it put you off

Most places don’t ask because honestly they don’t care they just want the business

You can pretend to scan through your camera - since last summer not one has checked

If they take your details by pen then just leave fake

It’s honestly not an issue

Like I say everyone does it and pubs and restaurants know they just play lip service to it

Even my kids know to give fake details now

I didn't realise this is what everyone was doing. When will track and trace will end? Surely if places are sticking to the rules and you are 2 meters always from others and don't have close contact for more than 15 minutes it isn't required?
actiongirl1978 · 10/06/2021 07:06

We don't use the app, no-one has asked for details on paper apart from one place in cornwall last week.

I'm so over all this.

ceeveebee · 10/06/2021 07:16

You can actually “check out” if you want to - you just cancel the check in when you leave.

But to be clear you don’t actually get a self isolation text just because you happened to be in a venue on the same day as someone who tested positive. You only get told to self isolate if you were in close contact (it uses GPS to work out whether you were within 2 metres for 15 minutes or more). You will get this text whether or not you checked in, if the app is on your phone (and you haven’t disabled contact tracing).
See this from the “about this app” section

faq.covid19.nhs.uk/article/KA-01312/en-us?parentid=CAT-01033&rootid=CAT-01032

Venue check-in

When you check into venues using the app and official NHS QR code posters, this data is held on your phone.

If it’s identified that people who were there on the same day have since tested positive for coronavirus, you may get an alert with advice on what to do. The venue check-in feature works independently of the contact tracing feature. If you get a venue alert it will not tell you to self-isolate

ceeveebee · 10/06/2021 07:17

Sorry - Bluetooth not gps:

Contact tracing

When you have contact tracing switched on, your app will use Bluetooth to know when it has come into close contact with other nearby app users. ‘Close contact’ is generally 2 metres for 15 minutes or more. If any of those nearby app users later test positive for coronavirus, you will receive an alert with advice on what to do. For example, to self-isolate and, if you develop symptoms, to book a test. The alerts are based on a ‘risk-scoring algorithm’ developed by scientific experts.

DinosaurDiana · 10/06/2021 07:23

I’ve never checked in anywhere.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 10/06/2021 08:19

@DinosaurDiana

I’ve never checked in anywhere.
Because you refuse or because you only go to places that are ignoring the rules?

I go out a lot and in my own non scientific study I haven't been anywhere that isn't doing it properly

A friend who works in a cafe said they can be closed down if an inspectors visits but I don't know how true that is.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 10/06/2021 08:24

Usually you have to book a table in a pub/ restaurant so in doing so they will have your details regardless of whether you check in using the QR code

DinosaurDiana · 10/06/2021 08:24

I haven’t refused.
I haven’t been asked.

denverRegina · 10/06/2021 08:27

Contrary to this thread everyone I know is giving correct details and places are asking you to sign in or check in.

You won't be contacted to isolate because someone was in the pub an hour after you.

HelloMissus · 10/06/2021 08:29

In my experience, you won’t get contacted and if you do it will be way past the self isolation dates.

DD was recently told by a friend that he’d tested positive and she’s still waiting for the call/email, two weeks later!

SilverGlitterBaubles · 10/06/2021 08:29

As numbers are ticking up in my area I think I will be more more reluctant to go anywhere requiring check in because I really don't want to have to isolate. I have had both jabs so what is the actual point of all this if absolutely nothing has changed for those vaccinated.

Ostara212 · 10/06/2021 08:50

@DinosaurDiana

I haven’t refused. I haven’t been asked.
You want to come and have a canned G&T in the park with me?

I drank them before Fleabag made them famous!

ilovesooty · 10/06/2021 08:51

@DuckyMcDuck

It does seem mad - I asked a couple of colleagues today and they said they've been giving false contact details for this exact reason - I'm NOT saying I will do that btw.
Your colleagues are disgusting.
ilovesooty · 10/06/2021 08:53

@Watapalava

Dont check in with real details

Its not fit for purpose

Everyone who checks in 'stays checked in' until midnight or until they check in to their next venue - which ever is closest

Iv'e been going to pubs 2-3 times a week throughout whenever they've opened - don't know anyone who does the track and trace most just pretend to do it or leave false details

I've no issue being tracked for real exposure - i get full pay - but i wont isolate for being a contact of someone who went out at 9pm when i was out at 3pm

this does happen - loads of restaurants and bars have confirmed this to me

I hope you get caught and fined.
Jennyfromtheculdesac · 10/06/2021 08:58

Does anyone know why venues have to collect contact details then? What’s the point if they’re not used?

Frazzled2207 · 10/06/2021 09:00

@TheVampiresWife

Me and DH went to the pub on Saturday (first time since March last year!) and they told us we didn't need to leave any details/check in as we were sitting outside. We had to go inside to use the toilet though. We thought this seemed odd?
I think this is true. Agree it doesn’t quite make sense.
denverRegina · 10/06/2021 09:08

"Does anyone know why venues have to collect contact details then? What’s the point if they’re not used?"

All the information is right there in the app. You won't be told to self isolate if you check in to a venue where someone later tests positive for COVID19.

You might be made aware it happened though so that you can go and get a test just in case.

Also allows PHE to monitor outbreaks and data in order to better understand the spread.

But then you get utter morons who can't even be arsed to read the FAQs before taking to MN and other forums claiming "everyone I know just gives a fake number" Hmm

denverRegina · 10/06/2021 09:10

"As numbers are ticking up in my area I think I will be more more reluctant to go anywhere requiring check in because I really don't want to have to isolate."

Yeah, just stay at home then.

Alternatively read the information within the app about how checking in works and find out that what you read on MN might not necessarily be gospel.

Orf1abc · 10/06/2021 09:12

Does anyone know why venues have to collect contact details then? What’s the point if they’re not used?

It's so the government can claim they're "doing all they can", whilst ignoring the fact that the multi billion pound t&t is wholly unfit for purpose.

The theory posted by @ceeveebee above is sound. The reality is that it just doesn't work. My mum has had three isolation alerts (all up to three days long, it takes so long for them to issue them) but she'd not been a close contact of anyone other than family, and no one else has received even one (or tested positive).
