How much further can covid mutate?

I’m just wondering. Is there a limit as to how far a virus can mutate? Are we going to still be in a race to contain it in five years time?

I just don’t know how this will end.

OP posts:

@Tealightsandd

We all saw what was happening in China. The people in hazmat suits disinfecting the streets. It was very obviously something highly contagious. And serious.

But that was pointless wasn’t it, because of what we NOW know about how the virus spreads. Good job we didn’t follow that example.

@MarshaBradyo

Do I have your vote. I’m going to beat this pandemic with the serious strategy of humour and laughter. I guarantee it will work! 🙂

Cousinit · 08/06/2021 00:29

Grin we have veered slightly away from the original topic...I wonder how much further this thread can mutate?

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 08/06/2021 00:45

@Cousinit

That’s fine it doesn’t matter. We don’t have to consider the actual virus at all to beat the pandemic. What makes u think it’s in any way an important issue. We have other strategies. I will personally tie BJ and M (suck it) H (hahahahaha) to a chair and let everyone throw tomatoes at them for pretending there is a virus and ruining MY life. Which is perfect. I have never had anything go wrong before, and I certainly am not going to start letting that happen now. Dammit

(M suck it H) 😂😂😂 that’ll get my votes and win this

Tealightsandd · 08/06/2021 00:46

Well no it wasn't pointless. And it told us it was an airborne infection.

Tealightsandd · 08/06/2021 00:47

It was spreading far too quickly, it was much too contagious to not be airborne.

The small group on this thread might disagree on the pandemic measures, but that's fine. We can form a coalition government.

I suggest we hand out free tea (green tea because it's healthy) and tomatoes for everyone.

Cousinit · 08/06/2021 00:53

Yes, true. I remember us being told repeatedly last year that it wasn't airborne and masks would be of limited use! That piece of advice came from the WHO if I remember rightly.

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 08/06/2021 00:55

Yes it was pointless spraying pavements and open air. Cue people wiping down shopping and months spent thinking it spread through surfaces. Doh!

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 08/06/2021 01:07

@Tealightsandd

Organic? Please! If we’re throwing them (we’re not handing them we’re having a war on everything) We have H&S to consider. Well as u stated earlier that, “the best thing we can do is learn from how we’ve handled all this”. For that reason, I fully accept your offer of a coalition movement 🙂

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 08/06/2021 01:12

Green tea for all 🙂

Tealightsandd · 08/06/2021 01:15

I'll shake hands on that (virtually for safety).

Here's to our new coalition.

BrewSmile

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 08/06/2021 01:25

(Virtual shake) Power to the people — Do believe the hype 🙂

MarshaBradyo · 08/06/2021 07:00

Wuhan yes you have my vote Grin

Cousin I think you’d have to consider transmission points. So pick up from airport in a decent vehicle for the purpose, in room no cleaning and food outside door? (That’s Aus I think)

Versus 1000s lorry drivers coming in each week potentially using roadside facility, escape would be occurring each week I think and doing NZ / Vic style reaction that often is too much.

I’ve appreciated the green tea version of this discussion though! Smile

thecatsatonthewall · 08/06/2021 07:43

@MarshaBradyo

Anyone who thinks the UK early response was good enough is deluded

Whatever. A few insults always help understanding.

If people can’t answer without them on the basis of facts what’s the point.

Just catching up on this thread.

You just advised a poster to apply to be the next CMO, that looks like a bit of a insult to me - stones and glass houses.

SAGE isn't one person and according to a SAGE member, some more cautious groupings were ignored.

The PM had/has a more relaxed view about Covid, how can any on dispute this?
Pretty obvious then he would then follow advice that suited his own opinions.
Then there is the Cummings testimony & the disastrous decision to not put India on the red list, can speculate the reasons but the facts are what they are.

MarshaBradyo · 08/06/2021 09:02

You just advised a poster to apply to be the next CMO, that looks like a bit of a insult to me - stones and glass houses.

And we had a laugh over it. Why do posters get involved like this Confused

MarshaBradyo · 08/06/2021 09:03

Also as for tone it had a wink after it

But really don’t you have better things to think about rather than monitoring posts between posters Confused

Clotsaway · 08/06/2021 13:49

I remember reading that they are expecting around 4000 different strains. Can't remember over what period of time. Scientists are making a library of the new ones as they come a long.

Sounds scary but with time it will either become less o fatal/ harmful or then well controlled.

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 08/06/2021 17:51

@MarshaBradyo

Thanks, you can be part of the coalition. In my tired state, I misread and thought we may need help to prevent scenes of “thousands of lorry drivers using roadside faculty escape!” 😂

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 08/06/2021 17:55

@Clotsaway

The lorry drivers will take care of disinfecting the 4000 strains 😂

Everyone else on the thread - you can handle all the serious stuff. We’re just the ‘face’ of the coalition

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 08/06/2021 18:02

@strangeshapedpotato My apologies for being rash. You can do the ‘worst case scenario’ modelling. I just got the hump, didn’t like the sound of your zero covid forever strategy. But we’ll keep it in the background 🙂

Tealightsandd · 08/06/2021 18:13

Re the lorries. France is managing to bar non essential travel from high risk countries like the UK, but still importing and exporting goods.

It's about minimalising the risks. Essential goods lorry drivers (with precautions such as regular testing, good track and trace, masks, potentially vaccine status). Versus essential lorry drivers AND hundreds of thousands of non essential travellers arriving everyday, mixing on flights and in airports, and then straight onto public transport.

I noticed (in the footage of Macron being slapped in the face) that the French are wearing masks outside. (Note, I do not recommend slapping politicians in the face).

I had green tea with ginger this morning. It was very nice.

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 08/06/2021 19:31

Just pondering how possible it would be to organise a system where the containers were left/crossed the Chanel/border but domestic drivers met the cargo on the other side. Logistical nightmare for businesses and government I expect. And nothing against the drivers! So yes, banning non-essential travel sounds the easier option. Anyway I’ve derailed, Europe will soon be vaccinated and without sounding defeatist, surely many UK/European and other mutations are going to cross-over anyhow!
