I know it’s dependent on various things, but what situation do you think we’ll be in for travel in the height of summer this year?

OP posts:
thecatsatonthewall · 03/06/2021 09:50

IMHO Very few european countries will be, i think the plan is to keep the money spent on hols in the UK and to make travel to Green list countries very expensive, due to the testing costs.

I suspect the Gpvt will find reasons to limit european travel into next year too.

EasterIssland · 03/06/2021 09:55

Hoping for Spain as numbers are coming down now, less than 60/100k now. but god knows.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 03/06/2021 10:16

Very few I think, the less travel the better for us and our economy will benefit if people spend here rather than in other countries.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 03/06/2021 10:45

Hoping for the canaries so we can visit our holiday home

IsabellesMissingSock · 03/06/2021 11:27

Waiting to hear, later today! Then will book somewhere ASAP, for July. Not interested in holidaying in the UK.

Pyewackect · 03/06/2021 11:28

None in Europe.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 03/06/2021 11:31

It’s a two way thing remember. Even if it’s a green list country for entry into the U.K., there still may be restrictions/isolation or quarantine requirements for U.K. residents entering that country.

Some countries have opened borders to the British : spain anyone can go greece I believe if you're vaccinated you can go without pcr (pcr If not vaccinated)

Ditto re no interest in holidaying in the UK. The weather is crap and the hoteliers are ripping people off with few staff and limited offerings.

I think Menorca, Ibzia etc will be on. As will the Canary Islands and probably the US.

God help us if they behave like they did last time with countries coming on and off with very little notice.

I dont see the tests coming down so I guess a PP is right. Stay in the UK, pay the comedy prices, shelter from the piddling rain and expect bad service with higher and higher prices. We will all have long memories though and will not forget....

IsabellesMissingSock · 03/06/2021 12:00

That's the thing tho, I'm just not up for paying the comedy prices for a U.K. holiday! So if the government's tactic is indeed to keep the travel list small so as to encourage people to holiday in the U.K., that might work for some, but not for me. I'd prefer to stay at home and save my pennies, thanks

HairyFloppins · 03/06/2021 12:00

I am hoping for the US, have a concert booked that looks like it's going ahead, also for Cyprus so my sister can her see her first grandchild. It's not just about holidays.

Geamhradh · 03/06/2021 12:14

European countries between themselves- most will be open to the digital Covid passport holders. That's already been said by the EU.
But with places like France now putting restrictions back on UK travellers, it's hard to say.

That sounds like something from the old East Germany.
IsabellesMissingSock · 03/06/2021 13:18

No new countries are going on the green list and Portugal may go amber. Fuck this, I'm booking a trip to an amber place and doing the quarantine

ineedaholidaynow · 03/06/2021 13:21

Aren’t they arguing that the amber list shouldn’t exist as should be only for essential travel but people are using it for holidays.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/06/2021 13:22

I saw that @IsabellesMissingSock
I found it odd that its only reported on the BBC as "the BBC understands" following Matt Hancock suggesting we exercise caution.

There isnt anything in the comment to suggest that no other countries will be added and literally no other news network is picking up on it. Seems really very odd.

Waiting for announcements is bad enough but the constant drip drip drip of speculation is beyond frustrating.

Yes they are. I think. But as long as it's legal to go to these places, they can't then complain when people go to them, in my opinion.
monkeypuzzeltree · 03/06/2021 13:31

Oh please, please let France let us in and we put it on a green list! Yes I want a holiday but I'd also like to see my granny one more time.

Totally agree with view of others, I'm not spending £300 a night for a beachside b&b, prices are ridiculous.

Plus, we do have a holiday home in France which I'm still paying for- technically it's cheaper to own than pay for holidays elsewhere in school holidays- but does mean I don't have spare holiday cash to splash in the UK either. It's a house in the countryside not a chateau!

It's so hard because usually where you holiday is your freedom to chose, it's part of the joy and if like us you'd never consider a UK holiday, it's kinda hard to get excited by one!

Walkaround · 03/06/2021 13:55

No way am I holidaying in the UK if it’s going to be packed full of staycationers. I’d far rather stay in my own home and carry on as normal than sit in a shitty, miserable traffic jam for hours just to go somewhere where the weather is no better than the place I left, it’s too cold to enjoy swimming outside, the history and culture of the place are all already familiar to me, and the nearby attractions are all packed full.

kirinm · 03/06/2021 14:03

Guardian are also reporting it so I guess it is true.

dazzlerdo · 03/06/2021 14:08

Couldn't think of anything worse than holidaying in the uk!!

IsabellesMissingSock · 03/06/2021 14:10

It's now being reported that Portugal will indeed go from green to amber

DareIask · 03/06/2021 14:11

Apparently football fans returning from Portugal are testing positive and need to isolate. If this isn't a lesson in how stupid it is to allow unnecessary foreign travel I don't know what is.

The solution to this is to remove all this self isolation crap

How many have tested positive ? Do you have a link where it says ? Just curious about it.
