I know it’s dependent on various things, but what situation do you think we’ll be in for travel in the height of summer this year?

@IdaArnold

Does anyone know when the next review of the green list will be?
Im 3 weeks
TheSaucepanMan · 03/06/2021 18:26

@chocolatesaltyballs22 I don't believe in conspiracy theories either however I am starting to wonder what the agenda here is, I don't believe it's to save lives anymore.

@Dohrehmee it's really tough isn't it, I have to travel due to my work, France for instance don't seem to care. No issues at immigration packed trains, supermarkets etc

Fizbosshoes · 03/06/2021 18:28

For me, a holiday is a break away from the norm.

I thought that was the idea of a holiday for most people? Not just those who prefer to go abroad?
But preference and budget determine how that looks for various people.
We dont have the budget to go abroad regularly but for me spending time where no one is working, and going to a new area is a holiday. A villa abroad would be amazing but one of our favourite ever holidays was a last minute caravan in Cornwall. (We live in the home counties and it takes about 2 hrs to get to the coast so it's really nice to be by the sea)

pinkearedcow · 03/06/2021 18:37

TheSaucepanMan doesn't France still have restrictions? I thought there was still a curfew in some areas.

loginfail · 03/06/2021 18:43

Well...we've not been out of confinement that long, there is still an overnight curfew, restaurant/bars are restricted to outside service, there's still mandatory mask wearing in many establishments and many cities...

What they do care about/their controlling metric is number of cases in ICU, rather then reducing the case count to zero.

Of course - I was just giving my own view. I like a break in the UK but for me a main holiday would be in a different country for the reasons given in my post. Fully aware that I am fortunate to be able to do that.

ineedaholidaynow · 03/06/2021 18:48

@loginfail but France aren't allowing UK people in are they?

LoveFall · 03/06/2021 18:57

So hoping for Canada on the greenlist by September. Desperately want to see close family and trip is booked.

DreamingNow · 03/06/2021 19:00

No they don’t.
They are scared to end up with the Indian variant after struggling with the Kent variant. All coming from the. U.K.
So they’ve created a special category just for us...

Mahrezis · 03/06/2021 19:01

@Vargas

My nephew is a Man City fan and he went to the game. He was on one of the planes. Told me four others affected and three planes with Chelsea fans on. It might not be fully true as you know what lads are like but he had had a call and text from track and trace telling him to self isolate.

Vargas · 03/06/2021 19:05

ds still thinks he will be going to Spain in a month....I'm crossing my fingers but looking fairly unlikely.

Legoandloldolls · 03/06/2021 19:05

Currently on holiday in the IOW. I cant believe the news about Portugal. It's not looking good for foreign travel this year realistically.

I already have one UK break rolled over from.this Easter for next year. I think more UK holidays for me this year. It's not comparable to the weather abroad and there is not point pretending it is.

But if it's the UK or nowhere I'm happy to stay home. I cant spend the next X year sulking in my house.

loginfail · 03/06/2021 19:23
@loginfail but France aren't allowing UK people in are they?
Fortunately they are allowing Brits in certain categories into/out of the country e.g. those with right to residency, essential workers, travelling to attend dire medical emergencies involving very close family, that sort of thing..but in generally it's a no.

And..yep, the problem is the wish not to import any more of the Indian/Delta variant..

CutMyPieIntoPieces · 03/06/2021 21:34

Well my surgery in Turkey is cancelled, again. 3rd refund for flights coming back to me and my op on 30th June will have to be cancelled. Trouble is, to book op you need flight booking. Which is obviously precarious right now. :(

Tealightsandd · 03/06/2021 21:45

Green list? Knowing the government, they'll probably keep adding countries that are shut to the UK. Like Japan, which the government is thinking of adding to green.

I hope we take the right precautions for once. If not, it will continue to be a case of us being the higher risk country. There's a reason why France, Germany, America, Japan, and others are restricting UK travellers.

MaxNormal · 03/06/2021 22:13

Apparently football fans returning from Portugal are testing positive and need to isolate. If this isn't a lesson in how stupid it is to allow unnecessary foreign travel I don't know what is.

Did you see the footage? It wasn't the locals they were all drunkenly slobbering all over and brawling with, it was each other.

Tealightsandd · 03/06/2021 22:35

There was very little brawling from what I've read and seen. Although - George Osborne was out there (Chelsea fan). He's good at causing trouble.

It's the government we should blame. Not football fans or other holiday makers. People were told it's ok to travel. The government is responsible for border control and real quarantine (or lack of it), not the general public.

MaxNormal · 03/06/2021 22:40

I'm not really bothered either way and I gave never blamed individuals for the spread of a virus. I'm just pointing out that those out for the football were considered more likely to have been in close contact with other Brits so its a poor reason to put Portugal on the Amber list.

PuffinShop · 03/06/2021 22:47

Feel free to come to Iceland. It's not hot and sunny but we have got a cool volcanic eruption to look at.

Method · 03/06/2021 22:53

@Franklin12

I dont think people are going to do the self isolation! The only way to make things a little better is to force a Day 2 and Day 8 test package before you enter the UK and have proof of that (none of this - sorry, I forgot, didnt understand, will order one when I get back home - I promise!).

We self isolated last year and NO ONE called us or checked out paperwork. There is a option on the Passenger Locator Form to say they can contact you by text. I work at home and am on constant phone calls so chose this option and was asked why!

As if anyone working at home will be cancelling an important Zoom meeting to answer a call from some random who might or might not be checking up on you. You cannot call them back either

That's actually how it works... Confused Also, you will receive calls and even visits. They do check that people are indeed isolating.

Don’t Announce it too loud !! I’ve Flights over there and the less people that goes the less cha des of outbreaks :)
MsMiaWallace · 04/06/2021 06:44

& who does the visits?? I can assure you it's not the police.

Dongdingdong · 04/06/2021 07:07

Ditto re no interest in holidaying in the UK. The weather is crap

Crap? It’s 24-25C and sunny for the next two weeks in London!

Dongdingdong · 04/06/2021 07:10

I also don’t understand why people are obsessed with holidaying abroad. There are some beautiful parts of the UK! Although if you were banking on a foreign holiday and haven’t booked anywhere here, you’ll be hard pressed to get anywhere now.

loginfail · 04/06/2021 07:16

FWIW in at least one case I know of it definitely was the police, in the shape of a couple of Met PCSOs.
