I know it’s dependent on various things, but what situation do you think we’ll be in for travel in the height of summer this year?

Couldn't think of anything worse than holidaying in the uk

I like the U.K., yes it is crazy busy and pricey. But we live in a beautiful country full of history.
I’d love a holiday abroad, but it’s not going to happen. We’ll just make the most of it here.

I think the solution is to stop counting infections and just worry about hospital admissions. Who cares if half the population have a cough if they're not actually very ill anyway.

ab21 · 03/06/2021 14:32

We have a holiday booked in either Greece or the US in early July so its decision time. We're contemplating paying the money for the amber country tests (although they are over £900 even with two of us vaccinated) as our flights and accommodation are cheaper than normal. Then again, hearing the horror stories of tests not coming back in time does make me worry somewhat. Even green tests would be nearly £500.

^this. Absolutely. I pray every day for this to come

And meanwhile all those of us who have previously enjoyed holidaying in the UK are dogged with beautiful twee seaside towns full of people who haven't the decorum for holidaying in the UK and should be in an all inclusive in Benidorm. I can't bear Norfolk this half term, it's full of horrible people, which is such a shame as it never usually is.

Why is all inclusive in Benidorm always trotted out on these threads, the snobbery is awful.

CutMyPieIntoPieces · 03/06/2021 14:39

Am desperately waiti g to see if Turkey goes to Amber. Am booked in for surgery on 30th and its been rescheduled 3 times :(

Because people think it's funny and that they are the first person ever to make such a hilarious and inciteful remark. In my view, it just makes them look a bit pathetic.
NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 03/06/2021 14:47

I hope Spain, we’ve booked already. I am not holidaying in UK- I’ll just stay home, firstly everything probably booked and secondly we went to visit DD in a city last weekend. Cost £350 for two nights in travelodge - no breakfast or parking including. Bargain - not.

I thought this is what the government claimed to plan to do when announced this stupid roadmap.

Hospital admissions and deaths are staying down indicating that vaccines are working. Why in the world are we continuing to be under this level of control for people being ill and no more so than if they had usual flu/colds.

I got it when x number of people were dying/we were protecting the nhs, but are we still going to be counting cases in 5 years?!

Additionally the travel limitations smack of politics rather than safety measures at this point.

I like holidaying in Benidorm and all inclusive. Shoot me.
Franklin12 · 03/06/2021 14:59

I dont think people are going to do the self isolation! The only way to make things a little better is to force a Day 2 and Day 8 test package before you enter the UK and have proof of that (none of this - sorry, I forgot, didnt understand, will order one when I get back home - I promise!).

We self isolated last year and NO ONE called us or checked out paperwork. There is a option on the Passenger Locator Form to say they can contact you by text. I work at home and am on constant phone calls so chose this option and was asked why!

As if anyone working at home will be cancelling an important Zoom meeting to answer a call from some random who might or might not be checking up on you. You cannot call them back either

No coincidence that the UK decide not to put anywhere on the green list the day after the EU didn't put the UK on the White List.

I'm bloody sick of jingoistic politicians standing between loved ones. And amazed at how so many people are okay with being under that level of control.

Yes, it does sound like there are some horrible people....

Agreed. It's like a trumped up version of Eurovision!

Indeed. A friend of mine told me that the Eu was there so that all countries would have the same rules for people from outside the Eu. Ha! Spain is allowing British to enter the country with no proof of anything yet the Eu feels the uk is dangerous! It’s all politics.
Endofether · 03/06/2021 15:14

None in the EU cos they won’t let us brits in anyway !

Mahrezis · 03/06/2021 16:26

I think as many as 8 of the planes that went to Porto for the final have been affected with all those on board having to self isolate. All had PCR tests within 72 hours of departure and some were there and back in a day. Maybe this has had some influence.

MissyB1 · 03/06/2021 16:37

Aaargh desperate for our holiday in Greece! It’s booked for July 6th but God knows if we will get there Sad
Dh is a hospital Dr and even he says enough is enough now, we’ve got to get back to normal life. We’ve done great on the vaccinations, we will most likely get boosters this winter and we just have to crack on now.

I’m suspecting it’s definitely a political decision to try and make us all holiday in the UK. Well Zero chance I’m doing that!

BunsyGirl · 03/06/2021 16:37

I’m still going to the amber country we have booked. DS1 will have to break quarantine a day early but I couldn’t give a fuck. We dutifully sat at home all winter whilst people were flying all over the place to avoid lockdown in this country.

Vargas · 03/06/2021 16:39

Crossing fingers for Greece in August! Greece seem particularly keen to welcome back tourists...

Vargas · 03/06/2021 16:42

@Mahrezis Where are you getting this information? I can't see anything on the usual news sites.

Indeed, it seems it's a ploy to get people to spend money here instead. Well I'll clearly not be spending much money on "eat out to help out" during my post-amber holiday quarantine will I! Ridiculous.
MissyB1 · 03/06/2021 16:45

I’ve followed all the rules all the way through, haven’t even got properly out and about yet. But I’m starting to feel like sticking two fingers up now, I feel like Boris & Co are taking the piss Angry

MissyB1 · 03/06/2021 16:47

Does anyone know if they question your reason for travelling at the airport if you are booked for an Amber Country? 🤔 Just wondering if they could turn you away if it’s not “essential” travel?
