I know it’s dependent on various things, but what situation do you think we’ll be in for travel in the height of summer this year?

OP posts:

@MissyB1 I’m the same. The Governent have lost me now. I’ve just cancelled my second AZ vaccination. I’m not taking one for the team. Six weeks of headaches and shortness of breath since my first vaccination. They can piss off.

@MissyB1

Does anyone know if they question your reason for travelling at the airport if you are booked for an Amber Country? 🤔 Just wondering if they could turn you away if it’s not “essential” travel?
I don't think so, also it isn't banned to travel so they cant refuse you boarding, also who is going to stop you? is there police in the airports? doubt the Easyjet crew are going to be asking you and refusing you boarding,
Lostinacloud · 03/06/2021 16:54

What a fucking joke! “Vaccines are our way out” “When the nhs is protected and hospitalisations and deaths are almost undetectable amongst the 1500 other daily U.K. deaths then we can all be free” Yeah right!
Anyone still not awake to the fact there is so much more to all this than covid needs to open their eyes and smell the coffee. If it was about covid it’d all be over by now with the statistics currently in play across most of the world.

EasterIssland · 03/06/2021 16:55

also there is still direct planes from London to mombai, thought this was banned... so if they dont stop people going to India why would they refuse it to those traveling to amber

Endofether · 03/06/2021 16:55

@pineappleknickers

And meanwhile all those of us who have previously enjoyed holidaying in the UK are dogged with beautiful twee seaside towns full of people who haven't the decorum for holidaying in the UK and should be in an all inclusive in Benidorm. I can't bear Norfolk this half term, it's full of horrible people, which is such a shame as it never usually is.
Totally !

Very unlikely. Just go. Amber schmamber

There was a story in the news a couple of weeks ago about either easyJet or Ryanair not allowing a number of people to board a flight to Spain because they didn’t have the correct paperwork.
It said they have the vaccine and tests but no valid reason for going to Spain.

We are just about to get refunds for holidays that have now been cancelled for the third time. That’s to Cyprus and Los Angeles. Personally I’m glad they are cancelled so that they are refunded as I really don’t want to sit on a plane with a mask or walk around a hot country wearing masks. I’ll wait. We are off to visit family in York and Whitby. Hotels very reasonable. £350 Monday to Friday in York in august and £300 for Friday to Monday in Whitby.
Ok not five star all inclusive but bed and breakfast in chain hotels. Which suits us travelling with just one teenager.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 03/06/2021 17:01

No new countries are going on the green list and Portugal may go amber. Fuck this, I'm booking a trip to an amber place and doing the quarantine

Me too @IsabellesMissingSock. Fucking sick of this shitshow now and I refuse to pay astronomical prices for the UK. The government are taking us all for a ride. I've been double jabbed but I might as well just go and throw myself out the window for all of the extra freedom it's given me.

I dont think it was like that what happened with spain.

for spain you have to fill some papers (like you've to do for traveling into the uk) these people had the lack of these documents so they will be refused entry.
also few weeks ago British people weren't allowed to travel to spain, only from the 26th British people have been allowed, so if it was few weeks ago then it was before the 26th, according to the news this is what happened, British tried flying on the 24th despite it wasn't allowed

It's not just about infections in this country where many groups are now vaccinated (many are not) but about the moral implications of travel to countries that are not as well set up as us.
I love my trips abroad and have family I really want to see, but it's just not the right thing to do at the moment.

That's your decision, which is entirely fine for you to make.

That’s your decision. It’s up to each country to put the right measurements in place to protect the locals. Also I might be mixing more with people in my own country that if I went another country ...
User135644 · 03/06/2021 17:15

@ineedaholidaynow

Aren’t they arguing that the amber list shouldn’t exist as should be only for essential travel but people are using it for holidays.
People are taking the piss.
feellikeanalien · 03/06/2021 17:17

I would be quite happy to holiday in the UK but I am not paying £1000 for a week's self catering on the west coast of Scotland which was the average price for a small house or apartment when I looked the other day

Then if you decide to eat out it costs a fortune. I'd rather save my money and go abroad next year (if we are ever allowed out of the country again!)

However I fear that budget holidays abroad are well and truly in the past because of the costs of testing on top of the holiday price.

All those conspiracy theorists who said the government were going to stop ordinary people from travelling abroad may actually have had a point!!Hmm

MsMiaWallace · 03/06/2021 17:20

How do they actually police whether you've quarantined anyway if returning from Amber country?

Endofether · 03/06/2021 17:21

In the meantime we have G7 arriving in Cornwall next week !!!

I am so tired of seeing this trotted out ad nauseum. These passengers from India have to quarantine for two weeks in hotels at a cost of nearly 2000 per person. It is not the same as travelling to an amber country.
AvonCallingBarksdale · 03/06/2021 17:22

Vargas Crossing fingers for Greece in August! Greece seem particularly keen to welcome back tourists..

Same here 🤞🏻

Oblomov21 · 03/06/2021 17:22

This is so depressing. I was really hoping that Spain and Greece would be added soon. And I don't even have a summer holiday booked!

blameitonthecaffeine · 03/06/2021 17:23

Italy, maybe? Their overall rates are higher than ours but new case rate is falling very fast right now.
Same for Spain.
Possibly USA and Canada but idk that they'd want us.

I don't think the issue is getting people away for a holiday. For the vast majority of us it just isn't going to hurt us to wait another year and those who can't wait or have family abroad will just go anyway.

It's more about finding a few countries that are popular enough to prop up the travel industry a bit while being safe enough not to cause huge spikes in infections.

A small spike in infections is, at this point, far less serious than a whole industry going under, in my opinion.

It doesn't matter to me much. My whole family is in the UK, my husband is a surgeon so couldn't risk having to quarantine anyway and we were able to afford the insane price to book a holiday in Scotland. But I really do feel for all those likely to lose their jobs or unable to see family for another year.

PicsInRed · 03/06/2021 17:26

Voter holiday homes in France + Stanley's hol home in Greece = France and Greece on green list, simple as that.

IsabellesMissingSock · 03/06/2021 17:26

@MsMiaWallace

My relative returned from abroad a couple of months ago. She got a phone call every day which she ignored. That was all.
AvonCallingBarksdale · 03/06/2021 17:27

This is beyond farcical now - the photos of people at UK beaches is very much less than enticing and I’m not paying top dollar to stay in some spit and sawdust shithole in the UK. DH and I are both double-jabbed we have a villa booked on its own - why can we not go?? I have no patience with those who’ve chosen not to be vaccinated - why should we curtail our lives further for conspiracy theorists? Also, infection rates are not the important bit - it’s the hospital admissions. What a total shambles. Again. Angry

ineedaholidaynow · 03/06/2021 17:28

Will people need to check their insurance if they travel to an Amber country for non-essential reason? Assume you might not be covered.

EasterIssland · 03/06/2021 17:30

I’m not trying to be annoying @MareofBeasttown, I thought planes from india ere banned hence my comment. Also if someone is allowed to travel to India for xyz then those travelling to an amber country should be also allowed as according to the country those in amber are less at risk than the ones in red
