Question for people who are so anti-vaccine

User135644 · 01/06/2021 13:26

Whether people choose to take the vaccine or not is up to them, that's not what i'm interested in.

But you get people who are so against the Covid vaccines, yet are also vehemently anti-lockdown and any restrictions (i.e. the rabble in London the other day, spreading anti-vax rhetoric all over the city while doing their best William Wallace impressions 'freedom').

Do these people not realise that without vaccines we'd still massively be up shit creek without a paddle (as many countries still are)? We'd likely still be in lockdown with the Indian variant particularly causing many deaths among the elderly and vulnerable. Therefore, whether you choose to take the vaccine or not, are you not at least glad at the effect they've had on suppressing the virus?

Our government have handled Covid so badly that the vaccines have been a literal life saver for thousands of people. We'd be fucked right now without them. Be grateful.

Childish insults don’t ‘irk’ me @MarshaBradyo I’m a big girl Grin

Seeing as we haven’t even finished vaccinating the top 9 groups and hospitalisations/deaths have dropped dramatically. I think it’s pretty obvious that we don’t need to vaccinate everyone to ‘get us out of this’.

@maureentr I think you need to look at the stats to see which groups are most at risk of dying from COVID , which groups were prioritised for vaccination and which groups have (for the most part) been fully vaccinated.

Here are death rates by age to back up my point about misinformation

Good to know you're that.

But yes we do need more than too 9 to have it. If you’d stop there it would slow us down re removing restrictions.

MarshaBradyo · 02/06/2021 13:11

Top 9

Roonerspismed · 02/06/2021 13:11

maureen love - get a grip. You have had your vaccine so be happy,

Nerdygirl · 02/06/2021 13:12

Haha we go with the anti vax for backing up my posts with ons stats . I totally agree with vaccinating the vulnerable to protect them and the nhs . That protects those who will be ill and allows us to open up

bumbleymummy · 02/06/2021 13:12

@maureentr Again, I think you’re confused. It isn’t ‘antivaxx nonsense’ . These are the actual figures. And it isn’t a ‘rule’ that we have to get the vaccine nor do we need to I order to open up, clearly.

GiveMeNovocain · 02/06/2021 13:13

I've had my vaccination for Covid but if you think that insulting people who haven't will persuade them to change their mind you're wrong. Not sure what these comments are meant to achieve except making people dig their heels in.

@maureentr I'd be very happy to be disowned by you. Such dismissal of the long term impact on your niece to 'save' someone in their 90s who is in hospital is the reason people are refusing their vaccine. You're doing more to reduce the number of people who say no than people who live and let live. Sometimes saying nothing is the wisest decision.

Nerdygirl · 02/06/2021 13:13

Where are the stats please as the ons and other official stats show it’s extremely rare

bumbleymummy · 02/06/2021 13:14

@MarshaBradyo clearly not because we haven’t even finished vaccinating the top 9 and we’re still opening up.

Tootsey11 · 02/06/2021 13:14

We’re on to next groups Confused

30s and 40s

MarshaBradyo · 02/06/2021 13:16

And June 21 is still in balance, depends on data

Either extreme - the lockdown people and the no need for vaccine out of group 9 could accept we’re waiting for the data on this, but doubt they will.

@maureentr

Im sure the tin foil hat wearers believe they will transform to lizards after the vaccine spreading their evil nonsense to scare people into not taking the vaccine but thankfully decent respectable people are doing their bit for society . If you dont have the vaccine then that is your choice but stay at home allowing decent people the right to be safe! Many countries demand proof of the vaccine to access public buildings and although nothing is decided yet I suspect we will see the same in the UK. For those unwilling to take the vaccine I would deny NHS treatment, benefits etc as if they wish to contribute to deaths in our society it is only right their are consequences
As the NHS treat murderers who are injured killing people I don't think they'll be turning away people who exercise their right to choose a health intervention.
Lucyh179 · 02/06/2021 13:20

@steakandcheeseplease

You do realise that people standing up for what they believe in has always been in this countries culture.

With out the protests we would just be a nation of sleep walkers being dictated to.

Protesting about what you believe in is good regardless what its about.

Doesn't answer the question.

I believe in people's right to protest but sometimes you just can't rationalise it :)

GiveMeNovocain · 02/06/2021 13:20

@maureentr what do you think your insults actually achieve other than making people more convinced of their position if they don't want this vaccination?

Perhaps you should stay at home if you don’t think your vaccine protects you? I mean there are millions of unvaccinated children and young people out there that could be putting you at risk.

Either extreme - the lockdown people and the no need for vaccine out of group 9 could accept we’re waiting for the data on this, but doubt they will.

We were opening up before even reaching the younger age groups and without having completely vaccinated the top 9 groups. So no, younger people not being vaccinated would not slow it down.
bumbleymummy · 02/06/2021 13:25

@maureentr

I have had my vaccine. We aren't talking about people who haven't as yet been offered their vaccine, we are talking about the selfish anti vaxxers who refuse.
So you think your vaccine protects you against the virus when it comes from people who can’t be vaccinated but not those who won’t be vaccinated. I see.
UsedUpUsername · 02/06/2021 13:25

But you get people who are so against the Covid vaccines, yet are also vehemently anti-lockdown and any restrictions (i.e. the rabble in London the other day, spreading anti-vax rhetoric all over the city while doing their best William Wallace impressions 'freedom')

I’m against vaccine passport and mandates. But supportive of those who want it and have done their own risk-benefit calculation. I don’t think a healthy college kid should get them, but I am fully vaccinated for personal reasons.

Do these people not realise that without vaccines we'd still massively be up shit creek without a paddle (as many countries still are)? We'd likely still be in lockdown with the Indian variant particularly causing many deaths among the elderly and vulnerable

You don’t need lockdowns. Focused protection works, as demonstrated in Florida and Georgia (Sweden too).

You don’t need to put the healthy under virtual house arrest!!! We know who gets sick and who doesn’t, it’s asinine to pretend we don’t.

Our government have handled Covid so badly that the vaccines have been a literal life saver for thousands of people. We'd be fucked right now without them. Be grateful

I think you’ll find a lot of ‘antivaxxers’ are grateful that the vulnerable can get vaccinated. But they are correct that they themselves probably don’t need it.

And it’s a farce to say anyone who has recovered needs a vaccine since we now know that this provides robust immunity. They don’t need vaccines either.

Also masks don’t work. Not for a respiratory disease spread by aerosols. Dr Fauci talked about this before masking became politicized for whatever reason.

MarshaBradyo · 02/06/2021 13:27

Bumbley why are you so certain when scientists are saying we need to see data?

Certainty on both sides for little reason, really don’t get why so entrenched - maybe PrincessN will see thread and you two can try to convince each other of entrenched and certain positions.
