DC is saying it now with the benefit of hindsight. Even Italy, the epicentre of Covid in early March did not lockdown until March 9th. In the beginning of March we had no clue how widely spread Covid was in the UK. Does anyone really think we could have "locked down" before Italy?

We did act late but in the very best case scenario we could have acted as the same time as France, not much earlier. DC is very selectively editing his memories (similarly to what he has done with his blog).

I don't understand the point. We all know they acted too late but it was over a year ago. Surely we need to move on and leave it in the past?

I agree he's not a likeable or sympathetic character - but this is a startling narrative, for which he says he has evidence.

The MPs should be asking more about his evidence.

DC is loathsome and compromised himself with the whole Durham thing, BUT I can't help but feel everything he is saying is largely true. I think it's unwise to ignore his testimony because of his idiotic road trip. I had a strong sense at the time that there were some serious failings in the response to what was happening, and I think DC is probably the only person who can, and more crucially will, shed light on the day to day screw ups

How/why was there no plan for shielding in the former previous pandemic planning?! How were vulnerable populations such an afterthought?

Several of us on here, and I include myself with this, were preparing mid Jan and late Jan for covid. And warning others of what was likely to come. Even on Mar 3rd, Boris himself was still trying to convince everyone that there was nothing to be concerned about.

Personally, I like leaders that lead from the front, not have to be dragged kicking and screaming along with, or even behind, the general public.

Not really. Italy had a major breakout in a small area that they locked down on 21st February. This failed to limit the virus to the area, so the area was subsequently expanded. It was a demonstration that local lockdowns don't work.

During those last 2 weeks in Feb, it was apparent the impact of covid was having on one of the best health-care systems in Europe which led to the Italian lockdown. All of the evidence was there even for those unable or unwilling to consider the picture that had emerged from China far earlier.

Johnson and his pregnant girlfriend being at Twickenham on 7th March with 80,000 other people for a rugby match shows how seriously Johnson was taking Covid!

Can’t stand the man and he ofc has an agenda- but I’m overwhelmingly inclined to believe this narrative.
