Anyone listening?

I think during a crisis such as coronavirus you need an authoritarian in charge

You’d prefer to have Boris Johnson with zero accountability and no way to vote him out?

TomatoesAreFruit · 26/05/2021 11:48

@the80sweregreat

The PM offered to be injected with covid on tv. I am hoping that Chris Whitty just laughed at that one! He caught it anyway and was very ill. My dads care home locked down a week before the rest of the country. 12th March. Makes me wonder what they knew? ( he was 98 and died of covid , so I am very interested in today's briefings) I wonder what the cabinet are making of all this.
I am sorry for your loss Flowers
quiteathome · 26/05/2021 11:48

I gave up for a while after Spiderman

Now he is saying quarantine in January

Just like he did

I hate him

tenredthings · 26/05/2021 11:50

He's so full of crap , He's just playing out his game plan whilst covering his back. Out with Boris, in with Gove it's all the same shit show.

GoldenOmber · 26/05/2021 11:50

Yeah has he talked about Gove yet?

fruityorange · 26/05/2021 11:50

My company sent us to work from home two weeks before lockdown. They knew what was coming. There were people here in February warning what was coming. I do not know why private companies and some MN posters should know better than the government.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/05/2021 11:51

He really hates Hancock!

But doesn't everyone?

I've scraped more pleasant things off the soles of my shoe . . .

Yep!
StopGo · 26/05/2021 11:52

@Girlmama3 I want answers as to why I'm now a widow and lone parent.

What really gets me is that DC would have been happy to carry on lying and hiding the truth if he hadn't been sacked.

No I like Hancock Grin And Cummings has not put me off him Smile I think he probably does lack complete competence but he makes up for it with resilience and cheeriness and positive thinking and those imo are important characteristics too. Imagine if Hancock was. Gordon Brown type, yes competent but stressed and anxious under pressure and rude/ bullying to staff
viques · 26/05/2021 11:56

I hadn’t realised things were being taken so seriously (ha ha not) until I read the sky live feed subtitles which talked about a “Jeff Goldblum Independence Day meeting” in early March . They thought there were aliens involved in spreading COVID ?

Cummings really is tearing up his Christmas card list isn’t he, slimey little sneak. Though staying in with the Sunaks!

SpindleWhorl · 26/05/2021 11:56

If I hadn't read Mumsnet I wouldn't have been as prepared as I was for any of it really (I'm immunesuppressed) - like using sanitisers, having food and supplies in, preparing to collect my DS from his university digs, etc.

It really helped me being mentally and practically prepared in late Feb / early March.

quiteathome · 26/05/2021 11:58

I was prepared due to Mumsnet. And common sense

SpindleWhorl · 26/05/2021 11:58

@StopGo I'm so very sorry Flowers

This must be hard to watch.

BeastfromtheNorthEast · 26/05/2021 11:59

@sashagabadon you seem to have forgotten how contemptuously Hancock spoke to a fellow MP who is also a doctor and was talking about shortages in PPE when he condescendingly told her to 'watch her tone'.

I want cheeriness and positive thinking from TV light entertainment presenters not from politicians in charge of the health service in a crisis.

SomeKindOfFloppyWeirdo · 26/05/2021 11:59

Seems plausible Grin

fruityorange · 26/05/2021 12:01

@sashagabadon positive thinking during a crisis is not what you want. That is what we had with Boris Johnson. You need a realist who is a hard worker and competent.

Ha yes I thought that about Sunak

A female MP, didn’t get name was good re Goodblum comment. She also pointed out changes were made due to new data.

I didn’t catch it all but he is so like strategists I know. His angle is very personalised

Indeed. That's worked well in India under the autocracy of Narendra Modi, hasn't it?
fruityorange · 26/05/2021 12:05

@SpindleWhorl I agree, MN helped me prepare too. I stocked up on food so I was prepared for the shortages. And hand sanitiser and masks before they became difficult to get.

BeastfromtheNorthEast · 26/05/2021 12:06

It sounds like it's former civil srvant Helen McNamara we need to be thanking for putting a rocket up all of them and telling them the Government's approach meant we were f*** and that they had to change course.

RaspberryCoulis · 26/05/2021 12:06

The problem with Cummings is that he's a disgruntled ex-employee who feels shafted by the people he works with. He broke the rules himself and refused to step down.

And he has the benefit of hindsight, which is always perfect vision.

QioiioiioQ · 26/05/2021 12:08

Of course he's just trying to cover his arse, even so some interesting things will come out, the wrongdoing of other arses will be exposed

Cailleach1 · 26/05/2021 12:09

@Orf1abc

I can't stand Cummings. But he's a record keeper, he's already said he'll hand over the evidence he has (reports as well as texts, WhatsApp etc). I've no doubt he's doing this with hs own agenda, but if his assertions have texts etc to back them up, then that evidence needs to be looked at.

And he has apologised and admitted that his own actions fell far below those expected of a government official.

I would imagine only selective stuff is aired. This is the chappie who amended a communication retrospectively and then pointed out how he had been prescient. Faked his evidence.
BeastfromtheNorthEast · 26/05/2021 12:10

We had suppliers from the South East sending us face masks that we were able to give in to local care homes when there were shortages in PPE in the UK. They knew what was coming. One of the MPs questioning Cummings said his wife was coming back from China and said what is happening in Wuhan is real, why is there so much inertia in the UK. I think Johnson genuinely thought the great British spirit could tackle Covid without other interventions.
