Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

@Level75 which one has he had?

Level75 · 15/07/2021 17:13

@BG2015 Pfizer. He's still feeling rough but not absolutely awful.

Is your arm better?

Level75 · 15/07/2021 17:14

He's been unblinded and had the real Novavax last November, so glad he's getting a booster.

BG2015 · 15/07/2021 17:19

It's not worse, it's not spread. My arm is still red and very warm

I feel fine though (apart from having cancer Confused)

Level75 · 15/07/2021 21:45

DH stills feels shit. Aching chills and fever. I feel a bit guilty because I persuaded him to get it. He's taken 4 whole paracetamol (one every 3 hours - he's not drugs crazy!)

Level75 · 17/07/2021 09:00

DH still feeling really rubbish! How long did others take to recover from their authorised vaccine?

BG2015 · 17/07/2021 10:05

I had AZ on Sunday. Felt rough Monday and Tuesday. Headache, muscle aches and just generally groggy.

Tuesday my arm started feeling very uncomfortable, red, slightly swollen, very hot and it felt hard too. It was mildly itchy.

I've woken up this morning and it's fine just tender to the touch.

I feel ok. This reaction was much worse than my Novavax reaction which lasted 24 hours.

BG2015 · 17/07/2021 10:05

I've not told a soul, only my partner and son.

I'm keeping it to myself

Level75 · 17/07/2021 10:18

He had his Wednesday lunchtime and currently (Saturday morning) he's still exhausted with a headache Sad

JPLeeds · 17/07/2021 20:35

I'm really tempted to book in an appointment in Leeds next week bit worried I'll freeze if they ask me if I've had a vaccine. Going by the booking it should be Pfizer or Moderna with me being under 40.

Frazzled2207 · 17/07/2021 22:14

@JPLeeds
They prob will ask but tbh they reel off a long list of qs- are you pregnant, do you have xyz disorder, it’s quite easy just to reel off the Nos (unless you have another yes in there obviously!). Nobody gave me a filthy look for coming for my first jab at 43 either. I had Moderna and side effects not too bad. Although Moderna ones are worse second time I hear. Came up on my app next day. No messing about.

Has it lunchtime fri, felt off all day sat and was fine Sunday. But I don’t think your dh’s experience can be down to novavax, I know plenty of people that have been quite ill with vaccine, especially AZ.

Definitely sounds like he’s had a rough ride. I hope he feels a bit better tomorrow

I had an asthma attack a few days ago and ended up in A&E. Recovering now.

I phoned the trial with having breathing difficulties and they want me to do the three PCR tests and do the app diary for 10 days. (First test result came back today as negative. It really is just asthma.)

Anyway, when you register the postal test bit, it asks if you've had the vaccine and then for the dates. I did the crossover and am still blind so didn't know what dates to put down. I just put October 2020. Do you think that's ok? What's everyone else done? I figured they'll know it's a trial anyway and it doesn't really matter.

I'm 52 and they never questioned it once about why I was only having it now.

She did ask me twice what my age was, I presume because I was having AZ

I just hope it's not as bad next time

QueenStromba · 18/07/2021 09:34

Sorry but I've not RTFT as it's a bit long. Does anyone know why there's no sign of an MHRA decision?

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 18/07/2021 10:26

My understanding is that Novavax hasn't put in the final application yet.

In order to be granted emergency use approval, they need to demonstrate that every batch is up to the same standard.

There has been a delay in manufacturing due to supply issues, so they've not been able to produce this evidence.

I think.

Stan, the CEO, said it would be in Q3, ie July, August or September.

I wish they'd bloody hurry up.

MrsHamlet · 18/07/2021 12:47

I'm so angry now. I feel cheated.

Dreamer1989 · 18/07/2021 16:06

If the vaccine never gets MHRA approval, where do we stand? Do we get supported by the clinical trial team to have a “real” approved one

MrsHamlet · 18/07/2021 16:24

That's a really good question.
I've got some time off now so I might start sending strongly worded emails.

You’d bloody hope so and the trial doc suggest

..Ed there would be a recommended later this year on which “approved” vaccine to take for those of us who wanted to.
But the biggie will be whether or not we are properly supported to do so, eg without lying

In terms of the mhra my understanding is that it’s a rolling approval process so no need to put in a formal application in the Uk. Hence Uk likely to be first to get approval. In the EU and US they have to formally make the application so that would be the first sign that approval might come - def not happened yet

In the UK it could come completely out of the blue.
Or not, ever!

The UK submitted data in June . I'm getting highly pissed off as showing as unvaccinated.

Hey @CardinalCat I called the Covid line today 0800 030 8013. They've escalated it. So my local health board will have to call me .

You could try in your area if you want.

QueenStromba · 18/07/2021 17:49

Wow. You guys have really been thrown under the bus, I had no idea.

Frazzled2207 · 18/07/2021 18:39

@QueenStromba
I’ve had my first Moderna, and will have my second at this rate in late august
On my way out of it and very sad it has come to this
