Yet more chat about novavax, (un)blinding, general vaccine passport stress, approval (please please please) and more.
Those involved in other vaccine trials also welcome.

I'm going to get something next week when I'm back from the cruise. Then at least I've got one in before the end of July!!

Frazzled2207 · 12/07/2021 13:08
@Level75 it's not that joined up. I'm more worried about what happens when the NHS system eventually catches up and realises we have six vaccination dates in there in terms of evidence for travelling etc.
hmm yeah although just playing about with the app just now it seems very possible that when you go in to travel and then covid records it will just list the different barcodes. So it would show the novavax ones but also the approved ones.

I asked to be unblinded two weeks ago and my clinic (glasgow) are just ignoring my emails and calls, or fobbing me off saying they'll get back to me when they can. It's so frustrating!
@Torvean was your msp any help? Mine is generally a chocolate fireguard, but I may email him anyway:

Frazzled2207 · 12/07/2021 15:44

@CardinalCat
that is really rubbish.
I have seen (poss on twitter or on facebook I can't find it now) that an MSP who is (or was) on the trial is now getting involved to try and get some kind of clarity from the scottish gov.

Well I've felt absolutely rotten all day. Woke up in the night with a headache and have felt worse as the day has progressed.

I'm hoping a decent nights sleep puts me right. I'm on a school trip tomorrow with 25 seven year olds so I need to be fighting fit..

Frazzled2207 · 12/07/2021 17:13

@BG2015
oh no.

My husband was in bed with a headache the day after having AZ but was totally fine the following day after having a very good sleep. Fingers crossed (he had no side effects at all after the second one)

I had the real vaccine in May 2021 - I am so relieved as I was getting worried about booster jabs etc. The Professor couldnt have been nicer, so apologetic although none of this is his fault. I al staying in the trial to the end, but I just am more settled now.

valnevavaxx · 13/07/2021 11:57

Just reading about the news in France, how you'll need to be double jabbed or have a negative PCR test to go into cafes and restaurants- www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jul/12/france-mandates-covid-health-pass-for-restaurants-and-cafes

Pretty fed up with it all now. Jumping through hoops to get into the country is one thing but if I have to do that to go out and about and even eat anywhere despite the fact I've been double jabbed with AZ it's just not going to be workable. I hate how everyone who volunteered for this is being disadvantaged!

Torvean · 13/07/2021 14:36

Was it Kate Bingham?

I've sent a letter to my MSP that's been sent along with his letter to the Scottish govt.

Vargas · 13/07/2021 18:38

@valnevavaxx I understand your frustration. Have you got the exemption on your NHS app or is that just for the Novavax trial?

I'm hoping the exemption will work if the UK go down the same route as France!

BG2015 · 13/07/2021 20:44

Still don't feel well today. I've got a swollen and itchy arm and aching all over.

It's definitely worse than when I had the Novavax vaccine.

Hopefully tomorrow will see me feeling better.

Still glad I did it!

Frazzled2207 · 13/07/2021 21:58

@BG2015sorry to hear
@valnevavaxx

yeah is rubbish. My trip to france and spain in august is now cancelled but I will definitely be wanting to go to france soon! I'm hoping that whatever happens by the end of July might be ok for most circumstances. I doubt French cafe owners are going to be as fussy as immigration officials when it comes to people wanting a table, and pretty sure they would roll their eyes at that JVT letter! But just reiterates need to have some kind of international recognised system. Am not sure Mr Macron has properly thought that one through. Interesting to see what happens though in a vaccine resistant country.

Spoke to someone on the Valneva trial yesterday and they said that travel passes will be on the app in the next couple of weeks- but it's up to individual countries whether they accept them on or not (which is the same for any vaccine I suppose).

Apparently its just a code that the government need to send to the app developers to make it possible to put trial vaccines on there- and the government are yet to send the code! Which I can well believe.

We will see!

Level75 · 14/07/2021 13:07

DH has just left the house to go to a walk in clinic. It's in a student area so may well be Pfizer. He's a bit worried about side effects (assuming he gets a jab at all).

Level75 · 14/07/2021 14:07

Well he's got his jab. Was in and out in no time.

Frazzled2207 · 14/07/2021 14:09

story on the news about a couple with the Indian manufactured Astra Zeneca being booted off a flight to Malta this morning.

If foreign immigration won't take an Indian manufactured version of an approved vaccine then the chances of them taking anyone with an unapproved vaccine are surely very low!

Also if the UK government hasn't sorted this out - as millions in that boat - then there's no hope for us is there!

I remain optimistic that the app will sort itself out as promised by the end of July for any domestic issues. But unless/until Novavax gets authorised I would expect very little progress on the travel abroad issue.

Good. Hope he's ok over the next couple of days. I had a slightly rough time of it but really no big issue.

For those who did walk ins (I think there's a few?) how does it work in terms of the second dose? Do they call you? Can you book using the online system? DH didn't ask.

He'll be able to book it on line, or just go back to a walk in at the appropraite time (assuming they are administering the correct one). In theory he should get called back but I wouldn't hold your breath & it doesn't really matter.
DD had her first one at a walk in & booked her second through the on line booking system - it knew she had had her first & what she's had so presumably only offered her places doing that vaccination.

Frazzled2207 · 14/07/2021 16:27

Yes what @Cookherhood said i think just wait a couple of days then book it online. It will know what you had and offer appropriate sites.

Only thing is I know (round here anyway) you can often (not always) get 2nd dose quicker at walk ins by turning up. But the online system won't physically allow sooner than 8 weeks.

I've got Covid arm now. Bright red, very hot and sore but I'm fine in myself now.

I've taken antihistamine hoping it will calm it down

Is it itchy, @BG2015? Just keep an eye on it, I Googled extensively because my arm got a bit scary - there have also been cases of cellulitis with Covid jabs, and the most obvious difference between the two is that Covid arm is itchy. I hope it goes away soon - an antinflammatory like ibuprofen will help with the pain and any swelling.

Mine spread very fast over the course of Friday - the red area went from 2 inches above my elbow to 2 inches below. Then, oddly, my upper arm started to get better - the hot area moved down my arm, but the swelling got less as it got further away from the injection site. The red got nearly to my wrist by Tuesday, but by then my upper arm was back to normal apart from being slightly discoloured.

BG2015 · 14/07/2021 22:06

It was a bit itchy this morning but seems better now and not as hot

Level75 · 15/07/2021 08:08

DH feels rough. His arm was really sore yesterday and he's not slept well. He now feels fluey. He's taken a single paracetamol just now which is how I know he feels really bad!

Torvean · 15/07/2021 12:07

@CardinalCat yes I felt my MSP were helpful. Unlike the Svottish NIHR who refused to answer.
I asked my study centre some Qs. Some of you may be interested in this.

have been in contact with the clinical research associate for Novavax, who in turn have contacted Novavax. At the time of writing this, there is no confirmed date for unblinding at the end of the study.

It is not usual to unblind participants at the end of drug trials; however, this may be different due to the circumstances of this trial and the potential for boosters offered by the NHS. We will need to wait for a decision from Novavax about this.
