Anyone else not getting their 2nd AZ dose?

I'm 29 and am due my 2nd dose of AZ this Saturday. I'm absolutely beside myself with anxiety about the blood clot thing. Is anyone else not going to get the second dose?

Due my 2nd jab next week and won't be having it. Never regretted anything more in my life.

Same. If I could take something to reverse it, I would.

murbblurb · 27/05/2021 21:13

Basic maths, people. I felt rough for 24 hours after my first dose. Better than the much higher chance of feeling a lot rougher for a lot longer with covid.
I hope none of you get in cars...

TulipVictory · 28/05/2021 07:50

@pinkmagnolias it's so so sad. These 'rare' clots don't seem all that rare

Chillychangchoo · 28/05/2021 08:45

@TulipVictory

I know right? I know one lady personally but yeah it’s “ultra rare” 🤔

TulipVictory · 28/05/2021 10:34

@Chillychangchoo you know someone personally ? So scary 😧 have you had your 2nd vaccination? I've put mine off for the last two weeks now 😫

Chillychangchoo · 28/05/2021 15:37

@TulipVictory

Yes my friend (age 41) lung blood clot after her second AZ. She’s at home now feeling a lot better but still very breathless. My second isn’t due until the 13th June. Currently I’m a “no”.

Just waiting to see how things pan out.

penni00 · 28/05/2021 16:54

Well , I have postponed my second dose for another two weeks, due to ongoing issues from the first dose.
So frustrated, am desperate for Covid protection.
I so wish I had waited and tried to get a mRNA vaccine for the first dose.

DappledThings · 28/05/2021 23:21

Got my 2nd one booked for end of July. No concerns.

tonystarksrighthand · 29/05/2021 07:50

@ihavethehighground

Our neighbour had Covid and was terribly poorly . Please get the jab

My neighbours Dad had the jab and died. So he too was beyond poorly. He didn't make it.

@Chillychangchoo - that doesn’t sound like the vaccine induced bloodclots associated with the Astra Zeneca vaccine, that sounds like a “normal” blood clot. The AZ vaccine is no more strongly associated with that sort of blood clot than any other covid vaccine.

128,000 people in the U.K. have actually died from covid, but you think that saying your neighbour was ill is going to make a difference?!
Chillychangchoo · 29/05/2021 11:44

It’s not going to make a blind bit of difference when the majority of those deaths had outlived the average life expectancy. Harsh but true.

Tittyfilarious · 30/05/2021 13:22

I won't be having mine I've cancelled it yesterday as more and more comes to light with the risk of blood clots I wish I hadn't even had the 1st

Cookerhood · 30/05/2021 14:29

Why, did you have a blood clot after the first, or do you mean it was very recently and you are still worried? I'd really reconsider in the light of the variant.

TulipVictory · 30/05/2021 14:30

Think I'll wait until more data is available.

user456893987 · 30/05/2021 14:56

I won't be, I had the 1st one and have had covid

Remmy123 · 30/05/2021 16:00

You shouidnt do anything unless you are happy to get it done

ICanSmellSummerComing · 30/05/2021 16:55

Does anyone have know how to long it will take to get tweak the problem with astra zeneka jab to the stop the clotting issue?

pinkmagnolias · 30/05/2021 18:21

No of course nobody on MN can tell you that.
Denmark has advised anyone who had the the first dose of AZ to get a second MRNA vaccine - Pfizer or Moderna.
As Denmark are the ones who highlighted the problems with AZ initially and were one of the first, if not the first, country to ban it, it’s a good move to follow their advice.

Cookerhood · 30/05/2021 19:27

I'm not sure they can tweak it for this. The AZ vaccine has been a fantastic scientific triumph which has saved thousands of lives in this country cheaply & quickly. The more modern new technology vaccines may turn out more useful in the long term but they are expensive, more tricky to store & also have (less well publicised) side effects. AZ is hopefully what will deliver the poorer nations of the world from this. You can bet that they won't be so fussy.
We should all be incredibly grateful to the scientists who produced a safe & incredibly effective vaccine so quickly & AZ should be praised for not wanting to make a profit from it, unlike Pfizer et al.
I willingly waved off my 20 something kids for their 2nd AZ vaccines this week.

Duchess379 · 30/05/2021 19:32

I've had both doses recently. I'm still here! 👍🏼

Iamuser1976 · 30/05/2021 19:42

I'm postponing my 2nd AZ dose too. Finding it so frustrating how statistics on risk aren't clear or readily available so don't really feel like I can make an informed decision and what I have heard re blood clots makes me worried enough to not want to have. I've found some research and articles that have been vaguely useful, will post on here.

KarmaNoMore · 30/05/2021 19:44

I had my second yesterday. No second effects whatsoever.

Iamuser1976 · 30/05/2021 19:49

First, this wintoncentre.maths.cam.ac.uk/news/communicating-potential-benefits-and-harms-astra-zeneca-covid-19-vaccine/shows risk of blood clot v hospitalisation from covid per age band. Stats are as of 7th April. I believe the no of blood clots have increased since then and the exposure risk of covid decreased, so would like to see an updated version before making decision.

This government report says risk is 1 in 50,000 for 18-49 age group post.parliament.uk/covid-19-vaccines-safety-and-blood-clots/ it also says the lower number of 2nd dose side effects could just be due to less vaccines being administered.
