Anyone else not getting their 2nd AZ dose?

I'm 29 and am due my 2nd dose of AZ this Saturday. I'm absolutely beside myself with anxiety about the blood clot thing. Is anyone else not going to get the second dose?

OP posts:
orinocosfavoritecake · 20/05/2021 15:01

Wild horses couldn’t keep me away from my second AZ dose.

Mrsorganmorgan · 20/05/2021 15:02

I have a bleeding disorder and have had both vaccines, with no side effects.

lurker101 · 20/05/2021 15:04

I’m younger than you, no pre-existing conditions and excitedly had my second AZ today. Feeling good so far, had mild hangover symptoms after 1st dose.
So glad to finally be fully vaccinated

Scoose · 20/05/2021 15:08

The risk of blood clots from covid far outweighs the risk of clots from the vaccine.

UpTheJunktion · 20/05/2021 15:09

Just had my second dose - I feel so much safer and more relaxed now.

The chance of a blood clot are so tiny, of a fatal clot, microscopically tiny.

All my scientist friends and colleagues are having theirs.

We do so many more things that are higher risk - and when we do those higher risk things it is generally not in order to avoid something that has an even higher risk.

I want this virus gone, to stop people getting seriously ill, to save the economy, and to stop the extreme anxiety that it is causing in so many people.

bumblenbean · 20/05/2021 15:11

There’s been a couple of threads on this OP. I understand exactly how you feel, I was the same but ended up having second dose on Saturday. I won’t lie, I’m pretty on edge and won’t relax until 3-4 weeks has passed, but going over and over it in my mind was driving me mad and I couldn’t see a decent alternative option, at least not imminently. I actually feel slightly better now I’ve had it, though I wish I could fast forward a few weeks!

I know the numbers are slowly increasing but are still tiny overall. Appreciate that the anxiety doesn’t really rationalise but I’m just trying to keep the risk in perspective as much as possible. My 25 year old healthy colleague is currently quite ill with covid so that’s also kind of reminded me that anyone can be at risk if they catch it.

@whataballbag

The type of clots caused by flights or the pill are completely different.

The type of clots caused with the vaccine are a completely new thing unfortunately.

I wish I was skipping happily to get the second as I did for the first but when you already have health anxiety the rising numbers of clots after second doses with no acknowledgement from the 'higher ups' are concerning. Especially when every other country seems to not want to take the risk.

The point is that we take risk when we take the pill or go on a flight, not that the risk is the same risk. We take risk when we go on a fairground ride, walk up fells, go in a boat, eat grapes, go on a car journey or ride a bike....
Walkaround · 20/05/2021 15:14

@whataballbag

Number of second dose VITT has doubled from last week to 15.

Someone worked it out on another thread as roughly 1 in around 250k

Eh? I thought it was 12 last week, so not remotely “doubled.”?

A risk of dying is a risk of dying. Why would you care post-death whether you died of a blood clot from the contraceptive pill or a blood clot from a vaccine?
Walkaround · 20/05/2021 15:21

As for the absolute bollocks that “every other country” seems not to want to take the risk - I think @whataballbag means is every other country she wishes to focus her attention on, not every other country on the planet.

UpTheJunktion · 20/05/2021 15:22

@Brokensharted

All these - “I promise I’m not an antivaxxer but I’m so scared” posts have a very similar writing style. Isn’t that strange.
Or even "All these - “I promise I’m not an antivaxxer but I’m so scared” posts from new posters have a very similar writing style. Isn’t that strange.

Sympathy for people who do experience anxiety, but what about 'I know I would be better off getting the second dose, how can I control my anxiety'?

Thewiseoneincognito · 20/05/2021 15:26

I wouldn’t even have the first dose let alone a second. Nope.

Indeed.

'Every other country that currently has the luxury of being able to choose, partly because the infection rates are so low (in part due to vaccinations of all and every type) , partly because there is a choice between a vaccination with a really miniscule risk and a vaccination with an even more miniscule risk, and partly because they can afford the more expensive commercially 'for profit' produced Pfizer.

None of which make Oxford AZ a risky option.

Tana433 · 20/05/2021 15:32

@Thewiseoneincognito Same here. I am happy to wait until this time next year to see where we are. I just have a feeling i will be really, really grateful that i listened to my instincts that are screaming at me not to have it. Maybe i will be proved wrong but im happy to take the chance.

rainbowandglitter · 20/05/2021 15:32

I'm in my 30s and having my second AZ next week. Haven't even considered not having it.

97thousand1hundredand4 · 20/05/2021 15:33

I'm 30, and looking forward to my second dose tomorrow.

I routinely do more risky (in different ways) things - that are still mostly safe - and the more people that are vaccinated, the sooner I can go back to doing them routinely.

whataballbag · 20/05/2021 15:38

@Walkaround it was 8 last week, so yes, practically doubled is bang on.

whataballbag · 20/05/2021 15:43

Are we not in a country that has the capability to offer that option?

ineedaholidayandwine · 20/05/2021 15:46

Had my second dose, mid 30's, felt fine, happy to have had it

Etulosba · 20/05/2021 15:48

I'll be having mine.

Temp023 · 20/05/2021 15:50

Oh just get the bloody vaccine, so much fucking drama!

whataballbag · 20/05/2021 15:55

I'm sure after that all the anxious people will magically be cured and off with a hol skip and a jump for their jab.
Chickychickydodah · 20/05/2021 15:58

My dd is 28 just had her 2nd and is fine.please have it and protect yourself.

Rainbowsandstorms · 20/05/2021 16:02

@mahguy

I don't take the pill.

I'm not adverse to another dose. I just want to know if it's better to have a longer gap 12 wks vs 8 or are mixed doses more effective.

@mahguy a 12 week gap gives you better protection than an 8 week gap the averages stated in the trials were 59.9% at 6 to 8 weeks v 81.3% at 12 weeks plus.

I think it’ll be a little while before there’s the option of mixed doses as the trials are ongoing.
