Anyone else not getting their 2nd AZ dose?

I'm 29 and am due my 2nd dose of AZ this Saturday. I'm absolutely beside myself with anxiety about the blood clot thing. Is anyone else not going to get the second dose?

OP posts:
Bettycrocker7 · 22/05/2021 13:46

Have there been any deaths recorded after the second AZ?

manicwhatday · 22/05/2021 15:02
@Snowhitetann I'm in my 30s and just cancelled my second AZ jab for the same reasons. Felt absolutely terrible after my first one, I've never felt so ill.
@hellosunshine9

So you’re happy to just be partially vaccinated...?

TulipVictory · 24/05/2021 21:39

I have my 2nd dose booed for Thursday but am in two minds about cancelling especially reading the news 😫

@TheExtraGuineaPig

I've just brought my second dose forward, can't wait to be fully vaccinated and reduce the risk of all the things Coronavirus can cause and reduce the risk of passing it on.
Bring it forward reduced the effectiveness.
Cookerhood · 24/05/2021 22:31

My 21year old DS had his second one today without worrying because he has assessed the risk. DD will have her second one this week. Again, she has assessed the risks.
I do understand the anxiety thing, but aren't you therefore anxious about getting Covid? The risks of a clot with that are many, many times higher.

aiwblam · 24/05/2021 22:34

I'm certainly having my 2nd AZ. I'm looking forward to it, rather desperately actually.

hopingtochangeeachtime · 24/05/2021 23:01

Had my second AZ dose today, feel fine. My auntie is saying she might not have hers as was so Ill after her first AZ, I was too, but ok so far.

OutOfControlShoppingTrolley · 27/05/2021 11:18

one AZ dose only gives you 30% protection against the Indian variant.
You need the second dose.

mermaidsariel · 27/05/2021 11:22

Mine is tomorrow. I am dreading it as I felt ill for a week after the first one. Husband had his yesterday and had a terrible night feeling dreadful. He’s currently asleep.

How have so many had their second dose who are younger than me? I haven't even been offered my first vaccine and I'm 31. I'm registered with a gp too but heard nothing. Can't register through NHS Scotland because that's for under 30s only. Confused

Carers, HCW, volunteers at vaccine centres, Group 6 health conditions, leftovers at end of day etc.

I’m 41 and just had my first dose last week in Scotland. I know lots of 30 somethings who haven’t heard yet.

I've had both of mine and I'm 28. I had GD in pregnancy and from what I've seen on here and other people I know who had GD in pregnancy all got called forward for it in Feb.

@OutOfControlShoppingTrolley

one AZ dose only gives you 30% protection against the Indian variant. You need the second dose.
The 33% effectiveness after 1 dose (for both AZ and Pfizer against the Indian variant) refers to symptomatic infection. Both vaccines are highly effective at protecting against hospitalisation and death against all known variants so far. This should have been made much clearer by the media when reporting the stats.
SmokeyDevil · 27/05/2021 11:57

Fair enough, hopefully it will happen eventually. I thought my partner would have been offered one by now, he's younger but he's asthmatic. Maybe not severely enough to be allowed one early though.

penni00 · 27/05/2021 11:58

@melaniepool

It is how long the one dose AZ immunity lasts that is concerning me.
I am meant to be getting the second dose tomorrow, but will likely cancel as I am still suffering side effects from the first dose!

Anybody managed to find out how long one dose lasts, it seems at least 16 weeks.
Any further info on this?

Cookerhood · 27/05/2021 15:11

No-one knows yet, but the immunity from the second dose is what should give you long term protection.

pinkmagnolias · 27/05/2021 15:18

The FT had an article today saying they may have found the problem with AZ and think they can find the solution for it too.

Definitely hold off getting a second vaccine for the time being!

Once inside the cell nucleus, certain parts of the spike protein splice, or split apart, creating mutant versions, which are unable to bind to the cell membrane where important immunisation takes place. The floating mutant proteins are instead secreted by cells into the body, triggering blood clots in roughly one in 100,000 people, according to Marschalek’s theory.

In contrast, mRNA-based vaccines, such as the jabs developed by BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna, deliver the spike’s genetic material to the cell fluid and it never enters the nucleus
’When these . . . virus genes are in the nucleus they can create some problems,” Marschalek told the Financial Times.

Kitcat122 · 27/05/2021 19:06

Even mild Covid has some nasty, nasty side effects and symptoms including a much higher risk of clots. I will happily be having AZ number 2.

Sideofnoreturn · 27/05/2021 19:16

Not getting my second dose. I was the most ill I’ve ever been in my life after the first.

beachypeachy · 27/05/2021 19:33

Due my 2nd jab next week and won't be having it. Never regretted anything more in my life.

ihavethehighground · 27/05/2021 19:34

Our neighbour had Covid and was terribly poorly . Please get the jab
