Indian variant - will the roadmap be delayed?

I was feeling very hopeful about the future until reading that the Indian variant is now spreading fast in some communities.

In light of this, do you think we will stick to the roadmap as planned, or will restrictions be kept in place for longer? It seems like we're still going ahead with the big opening up on Monday.

Also, what about weddings? My SIL is getting married in August and we're really hoping it will still go ahead!

@SonnetForSpring

It is not the same thing at all. One encourages people to take advantage of the relaxed rules if they themselves are happy to. The other is imploring them not to take advantage of the relaxed rules if they can help it. Two very different things.
No it’s saying be cautious there are risks but it’s your decision

Which is good because it’s what I prefer

TruelyWonder · 14/05/2021 20:47

I am loving this argument 😂

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 20:48

Truely Grin

It’s lovely it keeps resurging when I say no need to tag me again

Quartz2208 · 14/05/2021 20:49

Why are we panicking so much about it compared to other countries (or are they too). I know we appear to have the most but we sequence most and if it is THAT transmissible then surely it will hit everywhere.

The US, France Germany etc all have it

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 20:49

That is not what he is saying. But no one is going to do what he is saying anyway so enjoy the coming weeks of making your own decisions. Make the most of them. They come with a price.

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 14/05/2021 20:50

Do you think our holiday to Cornwall in July will be cancelled? :(

People are complying and have done

I know you want everyone to be under restrictions for a long time but as I said earlier we are moving on

I think we have better sequencing so maybe we have better data.
Oblomov21 · 14/05/2021 20:52

We all need to calm down. This is minor.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 20:52

I really don't Marsha. I think you know that too. I think you have a pretty good idea of what is coming but you would rather it wasn't. Fair enough.

Hmm

What is coming? Are you thinking of lockdowns already?

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 20:54

Are you?

TruelyWonder · 14/05/2021 20:55

My favourite bit of this thread is when a couple of posters that only ever appear on doom threads appear Grin

I personally find it hard to listen to anyone that spent weeks telling us the 12 week gap was wrong and dangerous. Despite us telling them the reason why and all the facts.

Not to mention certain people on the priority list etc

Grin Sorry can't take them seriously

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 20:55

Can’t you answer a question fgs Grin

And no

Covid season

Quartz2208 · 14/05/2021 20:57

we dont know what is coming because we havent done this before. A variable has changed - immunity either due to high numbers having had it or by being vaccination.

If this were an experiment a variable has changed massively on our side (as well as variables changing on the side of COVID) so actually it isnt clear what is coming.

I think lockdown again it would need to reach pretty nuclear amounts - people have had enough

TruelyWonder · 14/05/2021 20:57

Currently only 18 people in hospital with covid in Bolton.

I think we can give it a couple of weeks to gather more information

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 20:59

I wasn't actually referring to a lockdown. That's seems to be the only thing anyone can contemplate. I was referring to a massive delay to the june date.

vera99 · 14/05/2021 21:00

I suppose it's the indoor element of all this that must be giving the most cause for concern that and the economy and populace have just about had it with this utter shit. If we had a Korean strength track and trace or a compliant Taiwan population then we could navigate a way out of this. But we don't and only lockdown works to stop the hospitals from being overrun.

It's sadly is our generation's war it will end when it will end. Of that we can be certain just a question of when.

Why not answer then Confused

June will be assessed as it should be

Yes absolutely

Quartz2208 · 14/05/2021 21:01

AZ protocols could change though - they are already looking at whether the risk analysis for the 30-40 year olds has now changed

How many in London? It's the area with the highest rates of the Indian strain. Or is it, like Bolton, too early to tell wrt impact on hospitalisation numbers?
TheKeatingFive · 14/05/2021 21:02

If we had a Korean strength track and trace.

GDPR and data privacy laws mean this isn’t possible. We need to be realistic about what’s achievable.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 21:03

Quartz, just read on another thread that people are being tested in Germany before doing lots of activities. So maybe having more confidence in their testing etc helps.
