Hi - I’m booked for my vaccine at guys centre 1 and just wondered if anyone knew if it was still doing moderna as at today? (I saw someone on another thread say AFC Wimbledon was now using AZ through supply issues)

I can't help you but I just wanted to point out that some of us that had Moderna are finding we can't move out second doses forward, presumably due to limited supply. May be worth bearing in mind for some.

Just checking if anyone in London has managed to bring their second Moderna jab in earlier than 10 weeks? Seems in Scotland they are advising for 40 plus to have their jab before 8 weeks now but nothing similar announced for England?

I couldn't, I tried and had to go back to my original time.

Moderna is supplied for the under 40’s. The interval period for that age group in England is 11-12 weeks. Vaccine Centres and pharmacies use the national booking system and that means they have to stick to this interval for bookings.

This can be varied under local agreement in surge areas where extra surge vaccinations is being put in place. This can include reduced intervals.

Almost all surge vaccination services are Pfizer or AZ. Usually only one vaccine is used and is targeted at a specific need en masse. Moderna is not likely to be used for a number of reasons, mainly linked to supply.

There are many over 40s who also received Moderna when we were able to book? Does that mean we also won't get a second Moderna dose if it's now earmarked for under 40s? It's not really clear from your post what you mean by Moderna only being allocated to under 40s?

I’d give it some more time, it’s very possible that they’ll change the interval period here in England as well within a few weeks .It’ll all be depending on supplies though .

@user34254356 Don't worry, I think they mean it's now used for the under-40s, though it wasn't when we got it. We will definitely get our second doses of Moderna, but there are not enough stocks of it to make it available for reduced interval doses.

Second dose of all vaccines are maintained and protected.

But the second dose stock is only delivered at the 11-12 week interval for cohorts 10,11 and 12. It’s 8 weeks for c1-8 but they are mainly due AZ. Until it is due for administration it won’t be in the vaccine centre fridges as second doses. Plus the national booking system won’t accept or hold a booking for these cohorts shorter than 11 weeks.

The best bet for getting an early second dose is via a surge vaccination service. The surge supply is Pfizer and AZ.

Unless the vaccine centre runs a walk-in using Moderna and aimed at early second doses, it will be virtually impossible to get.

Yes that makes sense. Or if there are spare doses available at the end of the day at a Moderna centre, otherwise we have to wait for the mandatory 11 week period.

As I understand it they’ve now changed the gap from 12 to 8 weeks for everyone?Does anyone know if they will text people or do we have to cancel and rebook ourselves? Thanks!

Sorry it’s not for everyone, just for us who are over 40 x

I cancelled and rebooked myself - brought forward 2 weeks earlier at the same venue (Guy 1)

Just spoke to Guys and they said they’re not bringing any appointments forward . I said that I’m over 40 but that didn’t seem to matter.

My partner is 40s and he brought forward his 2nd jab from 11 weeks to now 8 weeks. He did this yesterday.

That was for Guys

Thanks! My problem is that I can’ t use the link I originally used to book my two appointments. When I log in using that link nothing is registered so I can’t cancel my current appointment.

Did your husband call 119 and cancelled and booked through them ? I called them and asked why I couldn’t cancel or rebook my appointment online and they said it’s because the GP sent the link and I need to speak to them . GP says I need to speak to Guys and they now say they’re not bringing any jabs forward . I was hoping they might send out a text message to everyone over 40 as they did to the over 50s when their second one was brought forward . But that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Starting to feel very confused 🤷🏼‍♀️

@LondonSE may I ask if your husband had AZ? I had Pfizer so that might be the problem , I’m not sure.

Report
LondonSE · 16/06/2021 15:53

@LondonAnnie he had Moderna which others say is in limited supply. We didn't get a link through GP so I don't know what that is; we booked via the NHS covid vaccination website which allows you to cancel and rebook.

Thanks I actually called 119 now and booked the second one. They brought it forward three weeks . They booked me in for Centre 3 this time so hopefully it’ll be Pfizer but should all be in order.

For anyone 40+, high risk or who has been sent a text telling them they can rebook their second appointment, there seems to be plenty of availability at Guys for Moderna.

I've just rebooked my second vaccine at Guys for exactly 8 weeks after my first. There were appointments available every day and for every time slot.

The booking system has been updated. When you select cancel, it shows you the next 5 days appointments available to you at Guys before you have to confirm the cancellation so there is no risk of losing your original appointment.
