There is a lot being said on social media but not much in mainstream news which is interesting given how many people seem to have gone to the one in London at least. I understand there were some elsewhere in the country too.

Just curious if anyone took part
and what people think about the protests.

@Terracotta9

I’ve made it quite clear what my position is:

I don’t condone or support people wearing a Jewish star as a protest visual.

But I also acknowledge that some Jewish people feel that a comparison between Nazi germany and other situations is apt, even if I would never make the comparison myself.

That’s all. That’s literally it.

And you will '100%' march with racists/anti-Semites again. By your own admission.
Terracotta9 · 25/04/2021 21:58

I would 100% attend a march again, for a specific cause, while knowing that my political views don’t necessarily align with everyone else there.

I said that right at the beginning of the thread, and I stand by it.

TruelyWonder · 25/04/2021 22:00

@Terracotta9

I agree — I would never make the comparison between Nazi germany and UK today. Nor would I make that comparison with any other political situation.
You would apparently turn a blind eye to people that do though. That makes you no better than them. That is the frustrating thing about your posts you can't see that you are condoning people doing just that. Never say not my problem or ignore this stuff. So you can feel free to do as you like. That is silently validated such behaviour and allowing it to go on.

I think the bullying of terracotta is awful on this thread

It's not bullying to disagree with someone.
BonnieDundee · 25/04/2021 22:05

It is bullying to have a pile on though when that person has explained their.position over and over and lots of people keep on and on at them, calling them horrible names

Yep. Nasty bastards.
TruelyWonder · 25/04/2021 22:06

Then you have no idea what bullying is or haven't read the whole thread

Pointing out someone shouldn't think marching with racists and organisations with offensive views is not bullying

TruelyWonder · 25/04/2021 22:07

Not think - be

PatrickBatemann · 25/04/2021 22:10

You could have just said Sorry if that happened folks I didn't see that

They absolutely did say that.

TruelyWonder · 25/04/2021 22:10

The poster is getting lots of replies because they keep justify unacceptable behaviour.

Would you say the same about a poster behaving towards other communities in such a manner.

Tealightsandd · 25/04/2021 22:10

Would you call it bullying if people were calling out someone justifying marching alongside people in KKK robes? If there had been a march like that, black posters would be understandably upset - and to keep denying and dismissing their distress would be offensive and very wrong. This is no different.

TruelyWonder · 25/04/2021 22:12

@PatrickBatemann

Yes but then went on to justify the wearing of the yellow stars. That is the issue. They didn't just say that statement and have repeatedly called it a nuance argument etc

If that had happened they would have been arrested

In Germany lockdown and anti vax protesters tried to start wearing the yellow stars too. Germany has made is an arrest able offence! So apparently they don't find it a nuance either

Tealightsandd · 25/04/2021 22:19

Good for Germany. There shouldn't be any tolerance of any kind of racism.

BonnieDundee · 25/04/2021 22:21

I still think its awful. In a crowd of thousands you have no idea who will be there.

TheVampiresWife · 25/04/2021 22:28

@PatrickBatemann

You could have just said Sorry if that happened folks I didn't see that

They absolutely did say that.

They also said they'd knowingly participate in a protest in the future with racists and anti-Semites, so saying 'sorry if that happened I didn't see it' doesn't really wash.
TruelyWonder · 25/04/2021 22:28

Absolutely and I didn't have any problem with the poster attending unknowingly. So didn't comment on them until some else pointed it out. To which the poster started to justify the wearing of the yellow star. Since then they have also gone on to call that a nuance etc

I now will have issues with the word nuance for a very long time 😳

BonnieDundee · 25/04/2021 22:30

I didn't see the poster justifying the wearing of the yellow star at all. I must have missed it. Maybe you could quote for me?

TheVampiresWife · 25/04/2021 22:30

@BonnieDundee

I still think its awful. In a crowd of thousands you have no idea who will be there.
But as in my pp, they've said that they'll 'happily' participate in any future march knowing full well who will be there.
JassyRadlett · 25/04/2021 22:31

I still think its awful. In a crowd of thousands you have no idea who will be there.

I mean, you do when they’ve been there previously and pretty consistently. Unchallenged by the organisers.

I’ll admit to being shocked by a lot of the casual anti-semitism (what a brilliant fun day out!) I’ve seen on this and similar threads today. I do feel really strongly that racism needs challenging, include tacit/silent racism or attempts to downplay anti-semitism.

Terracotta9 · 25/04/2021 22:32

Yes but then went on to justify the wearing of the yellow stars

Lol. I really wonder if you have read anything I have written.

Let me break it down for you, again:

  1. I would never draw a comparison between Nazi germany and other political situations. I don’t condone or support the wearing of yellow stars as a protest visual.
  1. I’ve never justified wearing yellow stars. In particular, non Jewish people who wear yellow stars or otherwise draw comparisons between Nazi germany and other situations should be condemned as the anti-Semites they are
  1. I acknowledge, however, that some Jewish people feel the comparison between Nazi germany and other situations is apt, and it’s not my place for me to police their feelings on this.

Sub-clause A: I didn’t actually see anyone wearing the stars of David at the march.
Sub-clause B: I would 100% march again.

TruelyWonder · 25/04/2021 22:41

You don't need to break anything down we have read your posts. You can start it up all you like. The only person that shows no understanding has been yourself.

The very first time I jumped into this discussion with you was because you were telling another poster that prehap the wearers were Jewish. Like that is some kind of an excuse. Since then you have constantly refused to see that no it isn't.

Tealightsandd · 25/04/2021 22:43

The actual event - the protest (and definitely people's reasonings for supporting it) is irrelevant really. Jewish posters are repeatedly telling you how upsetting and offensive it was to see the racist imagery yesterday. Please stop dismissing and denying their very valid distress. Unwittingly attending without checking out who the organisers were is one thing. You didn't know when you attended yesterday? Ok, well know you do know - and yet you want to keep on associating with such people.
