There is a lot being said on social media but not much in mainstream news which is interesting given how many people seem to have gone to the one in London at least. I understand there were some elsewhere in the country too.

Just curious if anyone took part
and what people think about the protests.

If you think you are too precious or special to have the vaccine then you are free to stay at home!

You know that consent is needed for medical intervention? Coerced consent is not consent

JassyRadlett · 25/04/2021 19:26

And if does come to it - and based on current data it seems unlikely - I do fall on the side of if live theatre is allowed to go ahead with vaccine passports (or evidence the person can’t be vaccinated) or not at all, I’m going to come down on the side of the poor bloody theatres, actors and crews who deserve a chance to have their livelihoods back in some form.

It does seem beyond unlikely that they would even be contemplated for anything but large gatherings or activities that would otherwise be prohibited.

Dolciedolly · 25/04/2021 19:27
@Dolciedolly well you need to get a grip then if you think wearing a mask is a big deal. I wear one all day at work.

It's awful that businesses have suffered but they are all reopening now and will all be open by the end of June.
Why do I have to get a grip ? I have worn them and now I won't

And that is up to you if you wear at work all day

TruelyWonder · 25/04/2021 19:28

Nuances and the TV programme Drag Race used to justify people wearing the yellow star 😯 That is the most vile post yet.

My father's family came from a small country that had 250k Jewish people amongst their population before the holocaust. After the war there was only 6k left. Granted a lot of people fled to safer countries. However a very large number of people died too. The yellow star is not a nuances amongst Jewish people. It is a symbol of something very dark in our history.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/04/2021 19:30

@Dolciedolly it's not up to me, it's required as social distancing is not possible in my job. I'm no fan of masks but I wear them to keep others safe around me, it's hardly a big ask.

It is when you have a panic attack wearing one and kids should not be wearing .. don't get me wrong I followed the rules etc but now after 2 friends suicides /1 delayed cancer now terminal I am done

You don’t think there is any nuance in the discussion at all?

Even between Jewish people about what constitutes anti-Semitic behaviour or not?

I’m sorry, but that’s just clearly not true. I think you are being disingenuous.

PyjamaFan · 25/04/2021 19:38

I have a massive issue with them wearing yellow stars

How fucking dare they equate lockdown with the holocaust.

Tealightsandd · 25/04/2021 19:40

Regardless of views on the protest/mass gathering, there is no justification at all for the racist imagery. It's disgusting - and it's equally disgusting to continue to deny and dismiss Jewish posters expressing their distress. I have Jewish friends and feel so upset for them. I'm just a friend. I can't even imagine how horrible it must be for them and their families to see the images from yesterday.

TheVampiresWife · 25/04/2021 19:41

You don’t think there is any nuance in the discussion at all?

I don't. Anti-Semitism is anti-Semitism, whoever's engaging in it. Pretty unequivocal, just like racism or homophobia.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/04/2021 19:41

@Dolciedolly kids don't have to wear them, my DS doesn't.

I think you are desperate to justify taking part in the march where this happens and are now clutching at straws. You could have just said Sorry if that happened folks I didn't see that and had no idea. However you have written post after post making yourself a bigger hole.

I am giving you the benefit of the doubt because if you believe what you have written is right you are a complete arse.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 25/04/2021 19:44

I wonder if it’s an age thing? The people I saw were probably in their 30s. Have they only seen sanitised WW2 coverage, think that people just what, disappeared to ‘go and live in a farm’?

Haven’t they seen photos and film of the camps? Did they not learn about the actual events? Have they read anything, seen Schindler’s List? Read Anne Franks diary or Maus? Never seen world at war?

Or are they just anti-semites who don’t believe it happened because someone on Facebook says so?

PyjamaFan · 25/04/2021 19:45

@toffeebutterpopcorn

I think they are just dumb and unbelievably self centred.

Tealightsandd · 25/04/2021 19:46

I agree some were ignorant and it's possibly because of younger age, but definitely not the organisers and some of the prominent figures involved. Laurence Fox, Piers Corbyn, etc.

JassyRadlett · 25/04/2021 19:46

Even between Jewish people about what constitutes anti-Semitic behaviour or not?

Many, many Jewish people have said they found it offensive. I agree that if there is a debate to be had it is between Jewish people. And only between Jewish people.

There is no evidence that the people wearing the stats were Jewish. There is plenty of evidence that many, many Jewish people found it offensive and racist. And we should LISTEN TO THEM.

Non-Jews don’t get to say: hey, you shouldn’t be upset, or hurt, or scared by this, because not every Jew feels that way! You’re wrong about whether you think this is racist!

We listen, and we shut the hell up, and we act on what we’ve been told.

The organisers of these marches know that a lot of Jewish people find this racist. They enable it anyway.

I am 30, please don't make this an age thing. It's not, it's a stupid person thing.
Terracotta9 · 25/04/2021 19:47

@TruelyWonder

Not at all.

I’ve made my position very clear - I would 100% march again, and also would never draw a comparison between Nazi germany and any other political situation - as I’ve said again again on this thread. I can still recognise nuance, however.

TruelyWonder · 25/04/2021 19:49

I agree it is a stupid person thing. My older boys in their twenties and their cousins in their 30s learnt this stuff at school as well as home. No excuse for stupid and vile.

Yes. Agreed.

And this has been my position throughout the entirety of the thread.

Tealightsandd · 25/04/2021 19:50

To make clear, I definitely don't think most younger people are that ignorant. It's possible that those involved yesterday are but they don't represent all, or even most, of their generation.

Nuance 😡

You recognise shit all and everyone here but you can see that

Viviennemary · 25/04/2021 19:53

I did hear about it. But thought they were idiots. With nothing better to do except cause trouble.

Sadsiblingatsea · 25/04/2021 19:57

It was a fantastic peaceful march - many, many thousands of people concerned about the erosion of civil liberties and enforced vaccines.

Terracotta9 · 25/04/2021 19:59

Maybe. Maybe not. You’re all claiming that “all Jewish people feel the same way about this”, but anyone can simply click the link to the sky video and see that it’s simply not true.
