Follow-on to the happy thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4210673-Can-the-40-49-age-group-now-book-their-vaccine.

(I'm jabbed, but just here to read happy news of jabs and try to book DH when it's his time.)

61% of adults? That's amazing progress! Yeah, that'll be interesting then. It'll be good to see some pro-vax government advertising, the US are better at advertising generally.

I hope your side effects are minimal tonight (but immune response strong)!

It seems very hit or miss depending on where you live, they are calling 35-39 here now, but others are barely starting 45+

Eccle80 · 24/04/2021 21:03

@MRex I feel similar too, also a 40 year old asthmatic, and it is a bit frustrating to see people having second jabs pulled forward, and also some surgeries doing under 40s, whilst I am still waiting. It is probably unreasonable, but I feel like I have been waiting for the call for months as I was originally expecting to be in group 6.

I am also really sorry to hear about the people who got turned away, it seems ridiculous as no one else was going to be able to use their appointment.

BunsyGirl · 24/04/2021 21:05

@Foosterin There seems to be a massive difference in how GP’s interpret the rules. My brother is 42 and fully vaccinated because he has mild asthma whereas my GP surgery has not vaccinated people like myself who have been previously hospitalised for asthma.

stopgap · 24/04/2021 21:10

Thank you! I keep reminding myself that the side effects are a positive sign, and by god, I feel so fortunate today after seeing the images coming out of India.

TruelyWonder · 24/04/2021 21:21

In the US some county health departments that couldn’t keep up with vaccine demand a month ago have now started closing some of their mass vaccination sites for lack of customers, and some counties are declining vaccine shipments.

ConnieDobbs · 24/04/2021 21:32

@MRex @Eccle80 @BunsyGirl I'm also also an asthmatic who was expecting to be in group 6, I've just been called for mine by my GP surgery (presumably because of my asthma because I'm slightly too young for the national roll out). I take steroid inhalers plus Montelukast tablets. Hopefully you / your DH will get called soon.

thirstyformore · 24/04/2021 21:43

In my area they are doing all the 40-45s this weekend. We all got text messages earlier this week with appointments.

I reckon they'll move on to the under 40s very soon. There can't be that many 40-45 year olds!

LittleMy77 · 24/04/2021 22:11

They’ve started rolling out age 40-45 on the quiet via the nhs booking link. Friend and I booked (born in 1976 and 1977) in the north and London, other younger friend (born ‘79) still being told she’s not eligible

Friend in London went to one of the big hospitals; Dr said loads of ppl aren’t turning up for second dose Sad

sheeplikessleep · 24/04/2021 22:17

@TheBitterBoy

Husband was just turned away for being too young (44). He booked online and it was at a major hub, apparently its an IT issue, they've made the dates live too early. Called the helpline and they said they should have honoured the booking as its their mistake.
It’s so annoying after making the journey isn’t it. I’ve rebooked after being turned away yesterday. I’ve rebooked for next Friday hoping by then the 40+ message will be more official. Good luck!
BessMarvin · 25/04/2021 06:32

If I remember correctly when 45 to 49 started becoming available, the front page message was updated the next day? Yet 44 (and maybe 43) have been able to book for several days now and the front page message hasn't changed.

WarriorN · 25/04/2021 06:37

Have you booked elsewhere sheep? I feel you and another pp's Dh were unlucky.

Shame many don't want second dose. I wonder if side effects have been the issue?

I'm also concerned about future jabs; I think there's boosters hoped for next winter. I wonder if some will avoid.

Yes booked for next Friday Warrior when I hope over 40s will be official 👍
Squidthing · 25/04/2021 07:54

Maybe the booking is open for longer this time to allow more to book by word of mouth before the official announcement? Potentially would avoid website crashing like last time.

WarriorN · 25/04/2021 08:05

Sorry sheep, I meant a different jab centre!

ShiteningMcQueen · 25/04/2021 08:12

I'm 44 and just booked both appts on the website just now even though the front page info hasn't updated. Even remembered to put my NHS number in!

monkeypuzzeltree · 25/04/2021 08:47

Thanks this thread is really helpful. I'll keep checking, both 43, still can't book and those 45+ in my area are being sent 15-20 miles to get jabbed as they shut the big local centre.

Have a feeling I'll be checking this all day! It's like hitting refresh on the Disney site to get a Frozen Elsa dress a few years back!

user34254356 · 25/04/2021 08:59

The times has reported that under 40s is opening by the end of this week too! Think they forgot about 40-44.

Thanks so much for the info. Does anyone know if Heathrow are honouring bookings? Nearly 45 DH is booked there today but it's 30+mins each way so don't want a wasted trip. Many Thanks

Yes I’ve booked elsewhere 👍

Assume it's AZ second doses with the no shows
Delatron · 25/04/2021 10:06

What a shame about the second doses. Especially as they will likely have been for the most vulnerable who need them the most. As in a shame people aren’t turning up. Glad they’re going in some arms though...

ChloeDecker · 25/04/2021 11:25

Just tried the nhs booking site again and still not eligible (early 40s based in Greenwich borough, London).
Still keep trying though!

Dressingdown1 · 25/04/2021 11:29

Family member aged 35 with no underlying health issues had her jab yesterday (Somerset)

ILookAtTheFloor · 25/04/2021 11:32

I'm still diligently checking every hour for 43 year old DH, no joy yet. Think I'll keel over in shock when it doesn't say 'you're not yet eligible to book through this service' and I get through to the next bit!
