45-49s jabs news, 40-44s watching and waiting thread

Follow-on to the happy thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4210673-Can-the-40-49-age-group-now-book-their-vaccine.

(I'm jabbed, but just here to read happy news of jabs and try to book DH when it's his time.)

My DH was jabbed on 20th March (55-59) and I was done last Thursday, so just under 4 weeks later. And that was with the delay to moving to the under 50s.

So, bearing in mind there are still a few delays and supply issues, I'd suggest the 40-44s will be able to start booking officially around next Monday?

Glitterblue · 20/04/2021 13:40

I'm 45 next month, DH has just turned 44 and we both had texts this morning inviting us to book our appointments.

ProfessorPootle · 20/04/2021 14:06

@trampolinesmaim

GPs are going to start inviting over 40s in my almost Covid-free area next week - SW.

DB in London borough with SA variant outbreak is 44 and not yet eligible.

The vaccines are not geographically where they need to be.

I agree. If the government want to keep Heathrow open they should vaccinate those of us who live nearby first. It’s no coincidence new variants show up in London and the SE. I’m 45 next month, not eligible yet, my gp are still working through cohort 9. London is behind on vaccinations when we need them the most as we’re a travel hub and densely populated.
wintertravel1980 · 20/04/2021 14:35

UK got 3.77million vaccines this week (it is possible to estimate UK wide deliveries using Scottish numbers that get published each Tuesday). I would expect the vaccination program to pick up this week and next.

MRex · 20/04/2021 14:53

How much of the 3.77m are second doses? Presume Pfizer second doses are sorted, but some may be needed for AZ? If not that would be enough for everyone 45-49 ready to start the age bracket below, so I really hope that's correct. I've just checked and it's still a not yet eligible for the 40yo in London.

I haven't run the numbers myself but the vaccine enthusiasts on twitter seem to think just under half of the allocation can be used for the first doses. This will give us roughly 250-270k of new vaccinations per day which would be a step up on last week.

Tealightsandd · 20/04/2021 15:17

Completely agree ProfessorPootle

MRex · 20/04/2021 15:17

Possibly another 3m to do from that group though, so even with that (extremely welcome) step up we're looking at first week of May for the 40-44 to start.

I’m in the West Midlands, 41 yrs and healthy. Got my text this afternoon to book, although the appointment date is not until May 5th. It says I’m getting the Oxford vaccine. Very happy!

MummaPI · 20/04/2021 17:04

I'm 45, had my first one today, Moderna. No side effects yet, my arm is starting to hurt a little now. Pleased but reading some of the threads are scary. I've always been an anxious person but the posts about people dying after one dose of Moderna or AZ are awful. Feel sorry for people of course but I don't want covid either!

TokyoSushi · 20/04/2021 17:06

I think Boris Johnson said on the briefing just now that they've done 65% of the over 45's, so us over 40's hopefully shouldn't be too long!

TokyoSushi · 20/04/2021 17:09

Ah it was 60%, but still good!

MRex · 20/04/2021 17:14

Under 2m to go at 250k/day would mean we should see 40-44 general booking opening next Monday or Tuesday night!!

Who's setting up the round the clock shifts of checkers Saturday-Tuesday? I have a 40yo to do and can take the tricky 3/4am shift as DS grumbles me awake like clockwork.

You could just check the Times/Telegraph front pages at 10pm Sat/Sun and then check on Monday evening rather than losing your whole weekend for no reason.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 20/04/2021 18:05

60% is a marvelous considering they have only just opened up to 45-49 year oldsSmile Especially with all the AZ headlines about lately.

It will be interesting to see what the percentage is like in a couple of weeks. Plus plenty of people out there like me. Who can't have it straight away but plan too as soon as possible.

nordica · 20/04/2021 18:27

They had already done quite a lot of the age group as part of group 6, through people's jobs or being carers etc.

I'm hoping this all means those of us in the late 30s group will get invited earlier than the late May/early June predictions I've seen in the last week though!

I’ll be there with you!
EasterIssland · 20/04/2021 18:33

If my husband gets his vaccine on the 27 of April + 11 weeks that’s 13th of July for his second. We fly on the 15th. What can do wrong :). I might need to change my holidays

MRex · 20/04/2021 18:39

Are The Times the ones in the know then? Useful, thanks @RedToothBrush. It only takes a minute to put the details in, so no major strain.

OP posts:
nordica · 20/04/2021 18:39

BBC London news just had a story about vaccination supply (AZ). Pharmacies getting only a third of the amount they were getting a few weeks ago and only able to do 2nd doses, not 1st appointments for the over 45s. 😕

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/04/2021 18:43

Is that only in London @nordica? I'm in Surrey and had a first dose of AZ on Sunday at a local hall.

itsgettingwierd · 20/04/2021 18:59

We had similar here with pfeizer Nordica.

My ds - group 6 - has his this Saturday (1st).

They had to keep the pfiezer they were getting for first doses. And because he's 16 he can only have that one!

nordica · 20/04/2021 19:06

They did say it was all part of the "lumpy" supply as predicted last month and nationwide... Clearly lots of first doses are still happening, but perhaps they won't move along the age groups as quickly if there are supply issues.
