Can the 40-49 age group now book their vaccine?

Sister’s boyfriend (43) was able today to book his vaccine by entering his details on the national booking site (he is Derby based). Sister late 30s tried too but it said she was not eligible. Her husband tried last week and was also not eligible. Just wondered if anyone else has tried in the 40s age group and been able to book?

I tried too and no joy.

Exciting stuff. I’ve had novavax (trial) and we are indeed expecting an announcement on that imminently-this week. However we don’t expect it in arms before June.

I’m also helping out with vaccines and just got an email saying Moderna will only (for now at least) be made available at 20 (large) sites. This is England. But we expect it to start later this week and it surely must be 1st doses so best guess is people in their 40s who go to mass vaccination sites will get that.

cologne4711 · 12/04/2021 08:24

I also saw the article in the Times - hopefully it's correct.

Redcrayons · 12/04/2021 08:28

49 and 3/4.
Still says no.

Passthesauce · 12/04/2021 08:36

I presume available to under 40s from Tues, as both articles say from tomorrow?

Will it be publicised which 20 large sites will have the Moderna?
mrsknottschicken · 12/04/2021 08:46

I’d be prepared to drive some distance to get Moderna, if that was allowed of course.

User27aw · 12/04/2021 08:47

So would I

MRex · 12/04/2021 08:49

I think if you look up the sites and remove everything called hospital / infirmary / pharmacy you'll end up with near enough the shortlist. www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/publication/vaccination-sites/

@mrsknottschicken

I sort of have a list but it’s quite vague.
I can check it if you have one in mind.
It might be publicised in local media though -ours is (Etihad, Manchester)
Bear in mind however that just because a mass site is doing Moderna some days it absolutely does not mean it will be doing it every day.
But if you are going to any of the big sites you stand a chance of getting it

There are three sites in london but I don’t know which ones. I think Excel is extremely likely.

User27aw · 12/04/2021 09:17

@frazzled2207
How about The Kassam Stadium, Oxford or Madjeski Stadium, Reading?

Frazzled2207 · 12/04/2021 09:18

There will be one in “Thames valley”. Sorry as I said my list is very vague.

User27aw · 12/04/2021 09:19

That could be either. Thanks for trying.

WombatChocolate · 12/04/2021 09:19

I don’t think they will want to say which large sites will have Moderna because it will lead to a rush for them and people declining or not going to others. Over time it might be information which becomes clear from people sharing it though.

And yes, like sites which have had AZ some days and Pfizer others, they never said in advance and will do so even less now.

Will be interesting to see how any rollout to over 40s occurs given supply for 1st doses is so low. It may well be just 48-9 to start with to control demand, or be via GP invitation based on supply. I can’t see it can be many more than 2 specific ages and that those in low 40s will have to wait a bit longer. Some sense of a system, fairness and transparency will please lots of people.

Frazzled2207 · 12/04/2021 09:20

@WombatChocolate
Agree
Although it’s quite common knowledge locally already that Etihad in Manchester is one

Catslovepies · 12/04/2021 09:21

@Frazzled2207 Do you think there's much chance of having Moderna at the St Helens Rugby Grounds vaccination centre please? That's the largest one in Merseyside and is about an hour away from me but I'd be willing to drive there.

WombatChocolate · 12/04/2021 09:27

I guess some areas have one very large vaccine centre which is the only one for miles. They are a good bet, although given quantities are low there might not be a need for it to be delivered via the really huge centre.

Epsom Downs racecourse was the huge centre for the southeast, now moved to Sandown Park as racing will start again at Epsom.

If supply is low of Moderna, it could literally be a day or 2 at each location or if they need to run bigger clinics, Moderna in morning and something else in afternoon.

Anyway rollout to 40s is good news. As ever, those in an age group who are willing to follow what’s happening and book as soon as they can and travel if necessary and take the first slits available will get done sooner. Lots on these threads will be trying the national booking system and taking whatever is available after waiting so long. It’s surprising how many others are so much more relaxed and never seem to know who is eligible, and even if they do aren’t that keen to get on and book and will wait an extra 2-3 weeks for local rather than travel or ask a friend or family or charity to help with transport....even now we aren’t jabbing the elderly.

Hope everyone waiting can book soon.

IloveJKRowling · 12/04/2021 09:37

booking site still says over 50s only.

mrsknottschicken · 12/04/2021 09:37

@Frazzled2207 thank you. I’m in the south east (Surrey). I looked at the spreadsheet but didn’t really understand it. Our closest centre is G Live but I assume that’s not big enough to be considered a large centre. I don’t mind taking a punt and booking somewhere further. I would be willing to travel 1-2 hours actually! Is the racecourse at Epsom on the list at all?

IloveJKRowling · 12/04/2021 09:38

Given how many times the media have told me over 40s are imminent I'll believe it only when I can actually book on the booking site.

Eccle80 · 12/04/2021 09:39

I really hope those in their late 40s are able to book at some point today.

IloveJKRowling · 12/04/2021 09:41

At this point I think believing anything from a media source (i.e. not direct from NHS) is a fast track to disappointment and frustration. We've been here before.

wintertravel1980 · 12/04/2021 09:48

I have read the DM article and yes, it is clear than in this particular case the information comes directly from the government/PHE. There will be additional slots available via the national booking system either late today or tomorrow. It is not clear which age groups will be able to book online. I do not think it will be everyone over 40 - the initial cut off is likely to be either 47 or 48 (this is entirely my guess).

All the previous "news" about vaccination for over 40s was pure speculation. It is generally possible to figure out whether the info in the press is the "official leak/heads up" or hypothesis put forward by journalists.
