Just looking for anecdata, which I know is not robust. I was wondering if anyone here knows someone who has died of covid after being vaccinated? Not including people who tested positive a few days after being vaccinated, where obviously they hadn't developed immunity yet. Just wondering really.

Anyway OP...

I know lots of people (dozens) who have been vaccinated. One tested Covid positive a week later and was fine. Most likely picked it up in the queue! He was extremely high risk. Made a full, swift recovery and didn’t need hospitalised. He’s the only person I know who has tested positive post vaccine. The majority of people I know have had the Pfizer Biontech.

Locally, the only large symptomatic outbreaks in Care Homes have been in Care Homes were no one was vaccinated. There have been cases where staff and residents didn’t consent and later tested positive and brought it into the home but all vaccinated staff and residents didn’t get any symptoms (though some did test positive). Few care homes have achieved 100% staff and resident vaccination uptake.

@Twattergy

Everyone will die after having the covid jab. Eventually.
If you read my post I did say "of covid"

No. But given that 40% of the population have been given at least one dose and that includes all the elderly and medically vulnerable there WILL be people who will die very soon after having their vaccine. It doesn't mean they have died BECAUSE of the vaccine.

VivaBahhumbug · 27/03/2021 16:50

Oh sorry, I see you meant 'of covid.'

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 27/03/2021 16:51

Not a single one so far and I work in the NHS full time. Plenty of deaths from covid though.

FlyingBurrito · 27/03/2021 16:51

No but I don't personally know anyone who has died at all so it's pretty useless as any kind of data

Why do you ask?

ancientgran · 27/03/2021 16:52

@mynameiscalypso

No - I think the fact that we generally hear in the news when it happens shows how rare it is. There must only be 5 or 10 cases in the whole world, if that.
I've had my jab, not an anti vaxer but two care homes in Devon, Exmouth and Sidmouth, have had 9 people in each home die of covid a month after the jab. One home has a police investigation going and 2 people have been arrested for wilful neglect. It was reported as issues with infection control.

On top of the 18 dead there were at least another 10 in hospital seriously ill.

So 18 cases in Devon alone so likely to be much higher than 10 for the whole world.

Heartofstrings · 27/03/2021 16:53

@AvaCallanach my grandfather is basically dying of this now. It should only be a few more days now Sad

That isn't true, do a google for the Holmesley Care home in Sidmouth.
JustAnotherBrick · 27/03/2021 16:54

No, and nor does DH know of anyone despite working in a care home.

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 27/03/2021 16:55

Hmm

I quite clearly said locally. Why did you assume I’m anywhere near Sidmouth?

Lentillover1900 · 27/03/2021 16:56

Don’t know anyone who
A) got covid seriously let alone died from it
B) had any side effects from the vaccine beyond sore arm for day or two let alone died from it

Confusedandshaken · 27/03/2021 16:57

Yes. A friends dad lived in a nursing home in Cork. It had been completely CoVid free since last March. Earlier this year all the residents were vaccinated on the Sunday. My friends dad came down with CoVid during the week and died the next weekend as did several other residents.

To put this in perspective he was 91 years old and very frail but it was still very sad.

Of itp? That's fortunately, quite rare with treatments, unless he has had a brain bleed. So sorry to hear it. Did he not respond to treatment?

Sorry I didn't connect the second sentence with the first in that paragraph.

I don't know if the Devon cases haven't been reported nationally but 18 dead weeks after their jabs is concerning. They were elderly but it was an outbreak, at least one member of staff ended up in hospital with it as well.

rookiemere · 27/03/2021 16:58

A friends DM in her 70s died from an allergic reaction to the vaccine, but apparently that could have happened with any vaccine not specifically the covid one.

Mrsmadevans · 27/03/2021 17:00

No l have not known of anyone , also by the law of averages there will be deaths because ppl die all the time. Just a coincidence they had a vaccine in the few days before their death imho.

whetherpigshavewings · 27/03/2021 17:01

No

I don't know anyone who has been vaccinated for more than a few months to know what the long-term side effects, and what the effects of repeated jabs will be.

Lentillover1900 · 27/03/2021 17:03

@MrsJE

Yes, my daughter in laws 95 yr old grandma who died the day after her 2nd jab. However, this did not put me off having my own jab.
So they knew it was covid and still gave her the jab? Hmm
RedcurrantPuff · 27/03/2021 17:05

My husband’s gran died from contracting Covid after the vax. However, she was almost 100 years old, so it is way more likely that she died because she was so old than anything to do with Covid. She got tested because she was in a care home. I believe the data suggests a 100% reduction in deaths does it not. My husband and I have both had the vaccine.

Lentillover1900 · 27/03/2021 17:08

@HmmmmmmInteresting

I know of a nursing home where they lost half their residents in the first wave. Then all had their first vaccine. Then they tested positive again (even residents who had already had covid Confused)but were all asymptomatic. So it's very reassuring Smile
Why were they tested if asymptomatic?
Sandgrown1970 · 27/03/2021 17:08

Everything I’ve read has said 9 deaths, not 18.

There are thousands of care homes up and down the country. It’s one case, directly involved with a police investigation over wilful neglect. Rather than perpetuating scaremongering, it’s best to remain calm and realise that there’s more to this story. Maybe it’s a faulty batch. Maybe it was stored at the wrong temperature. Maybe the dead residents weren’t vaccinated (ie new admissions post vaccine, or unable to have it). The care home is under a lot of suspicion. I don’t see this as evidence the vaccine isn’t affective in preventing deaths. Look at the real data worldwide. Something, human error/neglect in fact, has gone wrong in this one Care home. Let’s not get hysterical.

tappitytaptap · 27/03/2021 17:08

My aunt (fully vaccinated, two doses) has caught covid from my (only very recently vaccinated with one dose) uncle. Both mild cases though.

sittingonacornflake · 27/03/2021 17:10

Yes my great uncle. Was in a care home. I'm not sure how long after the jab it was, perhaps the full protection hadn't kicked in. Not sure.

Lentillover1900 · 27/03/2021 17:11

@millenialblush

No. The guardian reported yesterday that 1 in 25 who have been admitted to hospital with covid in recent weeks had received the vaccine though, not sure where they got that data
Underneath the headline

Sage says majority were likely infected shortly before or soon after jab, before immunity had time to develop
