You can see Japan 🇯🇵 worries
They not authorised vaccines or started vaccinating yet.

The reliant on pfizer from Europe
They would never accept a Chinese vaccine.

But what caught my eye

Is the distinction of contracts

Moderna inc United States
Astrazeneca uk.
Does that mean their astra zeneca contact is with different Astrazeneca to e Astrazeneca Sweden.
The distinction is they 2 separate countries.
Be interesting see how they get thier az in time for the Olympics

Boris and government
Uk media really need to spell out

What we invested
What help we given
That eu blocked ppe and ventilators

Big pharma article described Netherlands AZ site as not a major fixture I wonder what that means?
Maybe its very short term contract with halix.
Also does the British mhra also have authorise the leiden factory.

I dont think Boris/uk needs to speak, that's what they are after.
It's a problem of the EU with their contracts, not the UK. Being quiet makes the European politicians more angry as he's not doing what they'd want to.
I'd prefer to continue this way and if so arranging things over a call like adults rather than behaving like kids blaming each other

LenaBlack · 29/03/2021 13:54

EU might very well end up getting a proportion of their vaccines from Russia.

EU messed up their contracts that's a fact but I can sort of see their point about not wanting to export to the whole world while USA is blocking and stockpiling...They eventually shared 4mln of AstraZeneca with Canada and Mexico(who are still being supplied by factories in EU) but have well over 30mln stockpiled and AstraZeneca might not even get approved there..

Absolutely

It is odd how protectionist the eu commission direction is going in.
Really? It's not all that surprising, protectionism is what the Single Market is for.

Yeah. It's not a single world market, it's a single European (bits of) one.

Johnson confirms second Pfizer dose is ok at briefing.

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2021 17:18

Always good to listen to Whitty and Valance who speak clearly and well

3asAbird · 29/03/2021 17:27

Ohh interesting that novavax already in production @uk site already awaiting approval.
I thought was going to come online autumn and Johnson and Johnson be next one approved and dished out.
Or maybe autumn realistic as vaccines are not instant and starting now irons out yeild issues and gives time scale up.
Maybe he said it to wind up macron and France as they say we produce nothing.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/03/2021 17:30

Looks like they have secured the fill and finish service for the Novovax with GSK in Barnard Castle.

3asAbird · 29/03/2021 17:37

Yes that tickled me given that locations a well known place to go to test eye sight.

UserEleventyNine · 29/03/2021 18:15

Really excellent news about the manufacture of Novovax in the NE. As well as the immediate need, there's the skills and employment and and boost to the local economy it will bring in the longer term, and the potential for exports, which is good for the national economy.

Itsalonghaul · 29/03/2021 18:30

Wonderful news and real shot in the arm, along with the warm and glorious sunshine today!

3asAbird · 29/03/2021 18:36

Anyone wondering what Sanofi are upto.
As Sanofi using their sites to make pfizer in Europe.
Glazing Smith kline UK company was doing a collaboration with Sanofi now helping norovax an American company. Pfizer bio tech is American/ german.

Moderna made outside of Eu could look beyond Spain for bottling if they felt any worry EU block vaccines

I don't know which country was meant to bottle norovax but they now missed out on a contract due to the EU commitment behaviour .
Also the time lines I never expected norovax be ready for at least 6months

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9415187/UK-signs-deal-GlaxoSmithKline-finish-60million-doses-Novavaxs-Covid-vaccine.html

Daily mail says could be may.
Its fantastic news for North east economy and jobs.
Although we left the EU we still in the continent of Europe.
I expect we said we would never block vaccines.
So what incentive is there for norovax to manufacture within the block?
They could easily make it all in uk and ship to other countries or Europe.

Boris mentioned UK task force still working hard.

Don't know where curevax is upto but they also done a deal to make within the UK.
Dismishing EU commission power.

I think despite all the negativity bojo and Biden will forge a decent working relationship as EU throwing some mud at USA too.

I think India will come through on 5million doses.

Despite our differences and some export bans from USA and India we haven't burnt our bridges so to speak. We kept conversations private. We been patient and we sent a message to the world that the UK is open for business and won't block vaccines.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/03/2021 18:37

I wonder how many they have already manufactured? Although I thought, when the Novovax was first announced that it was being manufactured in Stockton, that there was talk of the initial batch/es being exported but I haven't heard anything of it since? Is this my own fabrication or has that just changed now?

FourTeaFallOut · 29/03/2021 18:39

I don't know which country was meant to bottle norovax but they now missed out on a contract due to the EU commitment behaviour

Although it does seem like madness that this wasn't always the plan, given they are only an hour's drive apart.

fujifilmdiosynth.com/about-us/press-releases/novavax-and-uk-government-announce-collaboration-and-purchase-agreement-for-novavax-covid-19-vaccine-candidate/

Looks like I did entirely make up this idea that initial doses were being exported.

"Under the terms of the agreement, Novavax will supply 60 million doses of NVX-CoV2373 to the UK beginning as early as Q1, 2021. Excess supply of antigen manufactured at the FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies site in Billingham, Stockton-on-Tees will be available for Novavax to sell to additional markets outside the UK."

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 29/03/2021 19:27

When are we expecting Novovax to be ready/approved? What stage is it at now?
Apologies if this has already been answered, I’ve lost track!

NewYearNewTwatName · 29/03/2021 19:49

TheCountessofFitzdotterel
finished phase 3 trials approval next week or couple of weeks hopefully.

pharmaphorum.com/news/novavax-confirms-efficacy-of-covid-19-jab-against-uk-variant/

FourTeaFallOut I mentioned the shipping US order first further back, but I'm not sure were I got it from either. But seem to think ot came from the day when vaccine orders were being announced. By looks though I am gladly wrong.

Also yes it's being manufactured in Billington. The announcement today is for filling and finishing, like the Wrexham plan.

Dongdingdong · 29/03/2021 19:54

Good news that Novavax has ditched the EU to fill and finish in the UK. A sensible move, given the Commission’s ludicrous behaviour.

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2021 19:56

That’s great re Novavax

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 29/03/2021 20:00

Thanks NewYear. I hadn’t realised it was so near.

Dissimilitude · 29/03/2021 20:01

The novovax move to bring all the steps of manufacturing into the UK and remove the EU from any steps is chef's kiss
